Dr. Rhonda Matters was appointed PEI's first Chief Mental Health and Addictions Officer last fall. Health Minister Doug Currie says she will report shortly on next steps and immediate investments to be made to support addictions treatment.

Premier Robert Ghiz says his government will develop a long-term addictions treatment facility if that's the recommendation that comes from the province's Chief Mental Health and Addictions Officer.

Dr Matters will join us LIVE in the Island Morning studio.

DianneYoungIM.gifYesterday was an extremely tough day for Dianne Young of Charlottetown. Her late son, Lennon Waterman, would have turned 30 yesterday. Dianne believes her son chose to end his life in the cold waters off the North River last November.

This afternoon, Dianne Young plans to speak outside Province House. She says the provincial government must do more to help people with mental health and addiction problems, which she says her son Lennon was tortured by for almost a decade. Island Morning's Pat Martel spoke with Dianne Young at her home.
