Smiles for Chalyce - Darin and Kathleen Meek

Posted by Bill van Asperen

MeekFamily.jpgThere is help out there for teens going through depression and other mental illnesses. The parents of 17-year-old Chalyce Meek, who took her life a few years ago, are now raising money and awareness for the Kids Help Phone. They are hoping to help young people thru their darkest moments. Darin and Kathleen Meek join us in the studio.

The Smiles for Chalyce team has so far raised 24 thousand dollars for the kids help phone.

Benefit for the Welsh Family

Posted by Bill van Asperen

WelshFamilyBenefit2.jpgFabian Welsh and his two children Jenn and Matthew have all been diagnosed with a rareform of thyroid cancer. The only one who doesn't have it is wife and mother Susan. Needless to say, it's been a hard couple of years for the Welsh family, with many trips to Halifax for surgeries and radiation. Family and friends are rallying to raise money, and will be holding a fundraiser. Matt Rainnie sat down with Fabian, Susan, Jenn and Matthew... to talk to them about their struggles...and what they can expect on the road ahead.

The benefit for the Welsh Family will be held April 25th at the Murphy's Community centre at 7pm. There will be a live and silent auction, as well as entertainment. You can also donate online, just follow the web page link welshfamilybenefit.com.
