Remembering Stompin' Tom 1936 - 2013

Stompin Tom 1 IM.jpgCanadian music legend Stompin' Tom Conners died at the age of 77 of natural causes. Many PEI music fans had the sense that they knew him. The legendary performer spent many formative years on PEI and his songs revealed a man who cared deeply about this country and its people. Billy MacInnis had the opportunity to know Stompin' Tom more than most. In fact, they shared the stage together for many years and toured the country. Billy's a well-known Island fiddler and he joined us from Vancouver by phone.

Back in 1973, during PEI's Centennial year celebrations, Jack MacAndrew produced a concert in Victoria Park. The headline performer was Stompin Tom... and watching from nearby Government House, none other than Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. It almost turned into the concert that WASN'T! Jack MacAndrew joins Island Morning with the rest of the story.
