UPEI Helps Create Educational Centre In Chiloe, Chile
Educators from UPEI are teaming up with a group of aboriginal leaders in Chile to create a new educational centre. It's designed to help young people from remote small islands in an area called Chiloe. The centre will combine the most up-to-date teaching methods from North America with the traditional knowledge of the aboriginal people in the region. The five year project has received almost four million dollars in funding from CIDA. Irene Novaczek is the director of UPEI's Insitute of Island Studies and co-leader of the project. Manuel Munoz is an elder from Chiloe who was recently on Prince Edward Island. Island Morning spoke to Manuel with the help of translator Louis Bait.
