Collaborative Emergency Centres - Maggie Brown

Health officials on PEI are looking to our neighbors in Nova Scotia for a new way of handling emergency care in small communities like Alberton. Yesterday Health Minister Doug Currie led a group of Islanders on a tour of two collaborative emergency centres in Springhill and Parrsboro.

Collaborative Health - Maggie Brown 5.jpgCollaborative Centres combine the services of doctors, nurse practitioners, paramedics and other health care professionals. Nova Scotia has opened several CECs in rural areas to help keep emergency rooms open...and improve access to family doctors. The CBC's Maggie Brown followed the Island delegation to Nova Scotia. She spoke to Bruce Quigley who's the CEO for the Cumberland Health Authority. It operates three CECs, including the one in Springhill.
