Big Poppa's Biggest Lift

Posted by Nancy Russell

bigpoppa1.jpgAs a world record holding powerlifter Tom Nicholls has proved just how strong he is.  But over the last month Tom has shown everyone that his strength is deeper than those gigantic arms and broad shoulders.

In early May, Tom or Big Poppa as his buddies call him, was driving a stock car that left the track and slammed into a wall made of tires. He was airlifted to hospital in Halifax and that's when a tough situation got even worse. Now Tom is battling back from injuries that more often result in death than recovery. And his wife Gineen says the support from their friends, family and complete strangers is helping Tom fight.

Mitch reached Gineen Nicholls at the QE 2 hospital in Halifax.

The Painting Beagles

Posted by Nancy Russell

tuigpaints web.jpgTuig relies on his instincts while painting his abstract pieces of art. And the only inspiration he needs is a scratch on his belly and maybe a treat. That's because Tuig the painter is an eight- year-old blind beagle.

He was rescued by Tonji and Rob Stewart at a young age, as was his brother ( by-another-mother ) Piper. And now they're both artists.

tonjipaints web.jpgThe Stewarts moved to Alexandra, P.E.I. from Newfoundland less than a year ago. Tonji runs "Canine Company", a clicker training and consulting business. The CBC's Lindsay Carroll dropped by to meet the painting beagles. Tonji and Tuig 3 web.jpg
