Fighting Fires via Text Message

fire1 web.jpgFire departments have come a long way from clanging a bell to summon their firefighters. Now Island units are reaching their crews...using text messages. It's a new system called "I Am Responding."

The dispatcher sends out a mass text to the firefighters...and the firefighters can text back with their position. Bob Morrison is acting chief of the North Shore Fire Department. He showed the CBC's Julia Cook the bells and whistles of the new system.
