World Refugee Day on PEI

WorldRefugeeDayPEI.jpgToday is World Refugee Day. It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about the struggles refugees face all over the world. Over the years, many refugee families have found a safe haven in PEI. Island morning spoke with Father Jack Costello, a leading refugee advocate in Canada, and Dan Doran, a longtime supporter of newcomers to Canada and a member of a local refugee sponsorship committee.

Madan Giri - Refugee rebuilds his life on PEI

MadanGiriIslandMorning.jpgAfter living in a refugee camp in Nepal for 16 years, Madan Giri and his family were given the chance to come to Canada to build a new life. They arrived here on a bitterly, cold, winter night in 2006. But he's not alone. Here on PEI , many refugees have found a safe place to rebuild their lives and focus on their futures. CBC's Sarah Keaveny Vos sat down with the former Bhutanese Refugee, and now proud Canadian citizen about what World Refugee Day means to him.
