Host of Island Echoes
Wendy Bergfeldt brings over two decades of experience to her work as
Producer and Host of CBC's Cape Breton's Mainstreet and Island Echoes.
She began her career in a small radio station in the province's
southwest but soon moved on to to the CBC. In the summer of 1990 she
was given a six week assignment in Cape Breton as a studio director, and
the Island has been home ever since.
In that time Wendy has hosted and produced daily current affairs shows,
on location specials, and live performances events. She was a
columnist for the very popular "Morningside" with the late Peter
Gzowski and the BBC's "Scottish Connection." She has several radio and
television field production credits from programs such as "Mr
Anderson's Fine Tunes", "Travelling Folk", "The ECMA Songwriters
Circle." and several independent productions. In addition to this she
has taken an active role in her community serving at various times as
an executive board member for the East Coast Music Association, The
Savoy Theatre and the Cape Breton Orchestral Society.
Wendy holds a degree in English and history from the University of
Saskatchewan, has studied film and journalism and is currently pursuing
a graduate degree in cultural studies and community development..
She lives in Cape Breton with her husband and two daughters.
