Stefano Faita grew up in the heart of Montreal's Little Italy, behind the counter of his family's renowned kitchen wares store, Quincaillerie Dante: an institution since 1956 and famous for its eclectic mix of cooking tools and hunting supplies.
As a young boy, he learned to cook pasta, tomato sauces and other Italian specialities from his Mom, Elena, a well-known food personality in Québec. Cooking quickly developed into a passion for him and he founded the Mezza Luna Cooking School in 1993 with his mother, right next to their family's store.
In 2004, Stefano appeared alongside Elena on the Télé-Québec cooking series, À la di Stasio, hosted by Josée di Stasio. Since that first television appearance Stefano has hosted a personal food documentary series, Al Dante, for the French-language specialty network CASA and appeared as the resident food contributor on Kampaï, Radio-Canada's weekly health series. He also spent 5 years writing the food column for the weekend section of Le Journal de Montréal.
Stefano has written three best-selling cookbooks in French and recently released his first English cookbook, In the Kitchen with Stefano Faita: Over 250 Simple and Delicious Everyday Recipes.
Stefano currently lives in Montreal with his girlfriend, actress Isabelle Lemme, and their two daughters, Emilia and Anna. He recently opened his first restaurant, Impasto.
In his CBC television series, IN THE KITCHEN with Stefano Faita, Stefano inspires viewers with his passion for making food from scratch with fresh, simple ingredients. He shares his special rustic recipes inspired by his family's rich food history and encourages viewers to get 'in the kitchen' to enjoy food with friends and family. Shot in front of a live studio audience, IN THE KITCHEN showcases Stefano at his best -- interacting with audience members and teaching cooking techniques and methods in an informal, cooking-school-like atmosphere.
More than anything, Stefano wants Canadians from coast-to-coast to get IN THE KITCHEN and have some fun!
