We all love a good apple pie this time of year, but why stop there? With apples at their peak right now, get creative and try incorporating them into your savoury dishes as well. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, their crisp and juicy flavour will add seasonal spin to your meals, making them fresh, exciting and healthy too.
To get you started, we've gathered a few of savoury recipes in which fall apples play a starring role. Fresh flecks of tart, bright granny smith compliment the thick-textured greens in a Spinach and Apple Salad with Maple Dressing. And while cheese and apples alone make a terrific after-school snack, they're even better in a stuffing for Stefano's Apple and Cheddar French Toast.
A tip for these as with any apple recipe: when you're cutting apples you want to work fast because the flesh tends to brown soon after being exposed. If you're chopping a lot, rub the cut sides with lemon juice or keep them soaking in a mixture of about 4 cups water to 3 tablespoons of lemon juice while you finish your prep.
Add apples to more than just desserts with any of these delicious, savoury recipes.
