Try a tomato at peak ripeness and you can see why the French once referred to them as "pommes d'amour" or love apples. There's nothing like them, injecting sweet nectar into dishes and taking centre stage at summer feasts.
This tomato season, get creative and try things you might not have made before. Like a tomato chutney for your burgers or a fresh salsa with lime-flavoured tortilla chips. There are really just two things to keep in mind: avoid storing them in the refrigerator where the cold temperature can subdue their flavour and cause their flesh to turn pulpy; and to ripen them quicker, pierce a paper bag with a few holes and set the tomatoes inside to ripen on the counter.
