This is a great time of year to go to the market. The produce section is teeming with a freshly-picked harvest of parsnips, apples and pears and a delicious variety of winter squashes. All of these autumn-hued foods are perfect for roasting, baking or braising.
Here's a tip about fall-harvested foods: so many of them compliment one another so mixing flavours is encouraged. Add a pear to your mashed potatoes to add a hint of sweetness - or toss some cranberries into your apple pie. If you serve up a root vegetable medley for dinner tonight you can't go wrong with whatever varieties you choose, and the natural sweetness of late-fall fruits and vegetables balance nicely with strong flavours like ginger, dried herbs and spices - so be bold!
