Stefano Faita credits his mother for teaching him everything he knows about cooking. As a young boy, Stefano would sit on the counter and watch as his Mom, Elena, a well-known food personality in Québec, would prepare traditional Italian family favourites.
Stefano is a life-long resident of Montreal's little Italy, where his family's renowned kitchen wares store, Quincaillerie Dante, opened in 1956. Dante quickly became an institution, famous for its eclectic mix of cooking tools and hunting supplies. His family also operates the Mezza Luna Cooking School beside the store, where customers learn about food preparation and interact with Stefano, his Mom and other food personalities in an intimate environment.
In 2004, Stefano appeared alongside his mother on the Télé-Québec cooking series, À la di Stasio, hosted by Josée di Stasio. Since that first television appearance, Stefano has written two best-selling cookbooks in French. He's the host of a personal food documentary series, Al Dante, for the French-language specialty network CASA and appears as the resident food contributor on Kampaï, Radio-Canada's weekly health series. He also writes a Saturday food column for the weekend section of Le Journal de Montréal.
Stefano currently lives in Montréal with his girlfriend, actress Isabelle Lemme, and their two daughters, Emilia and Anna.
In his new CBC television series, IN THE KITCHEN with Stefano Faita, Stefano inspires viewers with his passion for making food from scratch with fresh, simple ingredients. He shares his special rustic recipes inspired by his family's rich food history and encourages viewers to get 'in the kitchen' to enjoy food with friends and family. Shot in front of a live studio audience, IN THE KITCHEN showcases Stefano at his best -- interacting with audience members and teaching cooking techniques and methods in an informal, cooking-school-like atmosphere.
More than anything, Stefano wants Canadians from coast-to-coast to get IN THE KITCHEN and have some fun!
