Special Care Homes Could Ease Burden

The province's bed numbers for seniors have left a Saint John area care home operator scratching her head. Special care homes that could take seniors are reporting 1500 vacancies all across the province. Meanwhile, more than 700 seniors are waiting for nursing home placements. And, at least 300 seniors are taking up hospital beds in the Horizon Health Network, even though they could receive care elsewhere. Jan Seeley has operated a special care home for 17 years and she's also president of the Special Care Home Association in New Brunswick. She talks with Steven about how they are placed to help ease the burden on the health care system.
