If you run a tap, and put an object in the sink near the flowing water, the stream will migrate to, and eventually over, the object. Why?

The stream of water is dragging along air molecules as it flows so it reduces the air pressure in the space between the water and the object. So, the air pressure outside that space is greater than inside, and pushes the water inward. It's called the coanda effect.
