If you look into a cup of liquid and you see your reflection -- as if it were a mirror - why is the image distorted near the wall of the cup?

The edges of the reflection are distored because the liquid adheres to the side of the cup and so the surface is slightly curved.

Why is an electrostatic spark dangerous when surrounded by airborne powder, such as in a coal mine or flour mill?
