Oscars and more this weekend!

A big weekend for movie and music lovers, with the Oscars happening Sunday night. Lots going on before that, however:


Vile Passeist Theatre presents The Roaring Girl, a drama/musical on until Sunday at Neptune Studio. Set in the 17th century, it's about a woman named Moll who refuses to conform to the gender stereotypes of the time. $25/$15


The Vagina Monologues presented by The Saint Mary's Women's Centre at a new location each day: Friday at SMU (McNally Theatre) and Saturday at the Company House (Feb 23). $10/$15

Movies: A Good Day to Die Hard.
The Oxford is running anniversary screenings all year, so this weekend you can see Love Story on Saturday and Sunday.
Theatre: Sissydude, a dandy rock musical has been resurrected at the Bus Stop. I missed it at Queer Acts.
Music: On Friday, Bob Marley Tribute: House of David Gang w/Compassion HIFi Soundsytem, Andru Branch at the Seahorse. New Music Fridays w/Three Sheet, Hello Click and Nicole Ariana.
On Saturday, Ian Sherwood release Live at the Hive at the Company House. The Reference Desk, Ceti Alpha and Tommy McGacky-Smith at Jacob's. The Cancer Bats w/Dance Laury Dance, Orchid's Curse, Oceans Will Rise at Michael's (also the Pavilion w/Dance Laury Dance, Sleepshaker, Shatter The Sunrise).

Theatre:
Six Characters in Search of An Author at David MackMurray in the basement of the Cohn. This is a Dal show directed by Ken Schwartz from Two Planks and a Passion: A director, his cast, and crew are interrupted during rehearsal by the entrance of six characters. Abandoned by their author, the characters request help in bringing their story to artistic completion. Fri + Sat 8pm (2pm Sat)
