Halifax Pride and more weekend happenings

Film: Beasts of the Southern Wild opens today at the Oxford.
Also Summer of Johnny kicks off at Alfresco with Edward Scissorhands.

Halifax Pride continues this weekend with the parade on Saturday followed by a big show on the Garrison Grounds from 3-6 that afternoon.

Friday : big indie-rock show at Michael's with Dog Day, Each Other and Monomyth. Cyndi Lauper at the Casino. Harmony Bazaar in Lockeport with Serena Rider, Ria Mae, Irish Mythen.
Saturday : Harmony Bazaar in Lockeport with Sarah Harmer, Erin Costelo, Christine Campbell. Big post-rock show at Michael's with Force Fields, INSTRUMENTS, Rockville Warriors & Movements. Panos, Jerry Granelli, Dark for Dark, Hey Mother Death at 1313 Hollis.

The Jazz Festival wraps this weekend--Charles Bradley at the Tent is the big show on Friday along with Maria Osende Flamenco at the Neptune Studio. The closing tent show is Los Primos and Grupo Fantasma, from Austin TX.

Over at Alderney Landing, Marianas Trench and Ms One Hit Wonder Carly Rae Jepsen make girls scream.
