Kevin Gallant is an engineer who tackled an energy retrofit for a St. Michael's Basilica in Miramichi. He talked to Jonna about Phase 1 of the project which included installing solar thermal hot water system, something that helped the parish drastically reduce its heading cost. The parish has just launched a fund-raising campaign to finish Phase 2 of the project.

Bus talks could resume

Codiac Transpo bus drivers voted a 94 per cent strike mandate over the weekend. Vanessa Blanch talks to the opposing sides in this labour management dispute threatens to disrupt the daily commute for thousands of passengers. However the city and the union still hope to avert a strike.
Paul Thomson speaks for the City of Moncton.
George Turple is president of the union representing bus operators, mechanics and service people.
Both sides say they're willing to meet again. The City of Moncton says that could happen this Thursday. The union is required to give 24 hours-notice before taking any strike action.

Cap-Pelé take down

Deputy mayor Hector Doiron describes the series of events Monday in Cap-Pelé that concluded with the removal of a sign at the local arena. That sign had been an homage to former and deceased village priest Fr. Camille Leger. Several people came forward to accuse the priest of molestation.
The Archbishop of Moncton told parishioners at Ste Therese d'Avila in Cap Pelé that he believes the men who have come forward alleging that a deceased priest abused them.
Archbishop André Richard spoke during Sunday mass. He went on to praise the men for speaking out about the abuse, which they say happened when Father Camille Léger was a priest in the village, from 1957 to 1980. The Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission is seeking a new chair. Last week, Ron LeBlanc tendered his resignation to the province's department of the environment. LeBlanc officially leaves the job December 31st. His departure follows a critical report from New Brunswick's Auditor General questioning the commission's expenses. Three other members resigned before the chair, leaving two people left on the Commission. Moncton mayor George LeBlanc talked to Jonna Brewer Monday about what happens now.

Out of Boundary Creek

You would be hard-pressed to realize it nowadays, but Boundary Creek, a rural community near Moncton, used to be a base of operation for a resistance movement. It was led by a guerrila fighter who spread terror from Boston to Halifax during the the time leading up to the Deportation of the Acadians.
His name was Joseph Beausoleil Broussard, and he's one of the people featured in a new non-fiction book by historian Dianne Marshall. She talked to Jonna about her just-published book called "Heroes of the Acadian Resistance".

Finding their way back to work

Six people spent the summer working on a farm in Grande-Digue and learning skills to help them re-enter the workforce. Sistema Screening

Director Greg Hemmings and writer-researcher Jennifer Power Scott talked to Jonna Brewer to talk about their documentary that will be screened at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton. "Sistema Revolution" follows the efforts at adapting a Venezuelan music-teaching system to a New Brunswick classroom. The film has already aired on CBC this summer, but gets the big premiere Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Stalking The Dead

You may not think mystery novels are literature, but a Mt. A. English Lit professor thinks solving family mysteries makes for important literary scholarship. Jennifer Harris talked to Jonna Tuesday about "Stalking Dead People", her contribution to a community speaker series in Sackville this coming Friday. She'll be talking about how she incorporates genealogical research in her academic research.
That community speaker series is happening at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sackville on Friday night at 7:30. John Murchie will be another speaker that night. Admission is $5.00 by donation and open to the public.

MSF has setup a mock refugee camp in the city over the next three days to draw attention to the work it does in trouble spots throughout the world. Remembering Trevor Nason

Online tributes continue to pour in for a young teacher at Caledonia Regional High School in Hillsborough, many of them from his students. 27-year-old Trevor Nason died following a collision between his motorcycle and a pickup truck on Hillsborough Road Saturday afternoon. The science teacher had previously taught at Harrison Trimble High School in Moncton, and he's the recent winner of a national teaching award. CBC's Sarah Trainor spoke with Trevor Nason's parents, Garth and Lynn Nason.

Team Hope

Team Hope is nearing the end of its cycling tour around New Brunswick as part of the Tree of Hope campaign. By Sunday, the 14 cyclists will have ridden roughly 900 kilometers, raising awareness about cancer and promoting prevention. Co-artistic directors Charlotte Steuter-Martin (left) and Marilla Steuter-Martin flank their Captain Hook, Nic Jarche, from the Will O' The Wisp theatre production of Peter Pan that will be staged at the Sackvilel Music Hall. Generations have loved the Louisa May Alcott book. Not so well known is the musical. Some musicial theatre people from Riverview High School hope to rectify that situation this week when they stage a production of Little Women, the Musical.
