28 days and counting.
That's how long we've been waiting for an interview with Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Robert Goguen about reforms to the Employment Insurance program. We tried again this week while he was at a funding announcement. All he would say is that the EI system is there for those who need it and if people wanted to talk to him about it, they could go to his office.
We did have an interview with the director of communications for the federal department in charge of EI. Alyson Queen says "at the end of the day," the rules are based on common sense and no one would be expected to take a job that would leave them worse off financially. She also said there was a lot of fear mongering about the changes, which fueled seasonal workers concerns.
That's why we wanted to hear from our Conservative MP, to explain the changes and address the concerns of his constituents. It's great if he's willing to meet with individuals in his office but at the end of the day, wouldn't it be more efficient to to address his constituents publicly in an interview with us?
The invitation still stands Mr. Goguen.
