Jonna's Thanksgiving faves
1 large onion
2 tbsp butter
2 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp salt
4 tbsp shortening
2/3 cup milk
1. Saute onion in butter in frying pan, stirring often, for 10 minutes until onion is soft but not brown.
2. Sift flour, baking powder and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Add milk. Stir until evenly moist. Turn out onto board and knead a few times.
3. Roll out dough to 20 x 10 rectangle. Cut in half crosswise. Spread onion mixture over one half, top with second half. Cut into eight long strips, then halve each cross-wise. Lift strips, one a time, and twist into rope. Place on greased cookie sheet.
4. Bake at 425 degrees, 10 minutes, or until golden. Serve hot.
Bavarian Apple Torte

½ cup margarine
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
Combine above ingredients; press onto bottom and one inch up the sides of a 9-inch springform pan.
1 eight oz. pkg cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
½ tsp vanilla
Mix these four ingredients together well. Pour into pastry-lined pan.
4 cups cooking apples
1/3 cup sugar
½ tbsp. cinnamon
Toss together and spoon over cream cheese layer. Sprinkle 1/4 cup slivered almonds on top of apple mixture.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes; then at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Cool before removing sides from pan. Serve with whipped cream!
