Dave Gunn was born in Boston, but his people are from Cape Breton. He's been in charge of some of the most complex subway systems in North America, including New York, Washington, and Toronto. He's mentioned in The Tipping Point as the guy who got rid of the graffiti on the New York subway cars. Dave got a lot of media attention back in the early 2000s as president of Amtrak, the national rail service in the U.S.  He was fired by the Bush administration in 2005. He now lives in the old family home in St George's Channel. We sat down for a chat at the kitchen table.

Flora MacDonald is originally from North Sydney. She served as the M-P for Kingston, Ontario, and in 1976,  she became the first woman to mount a serious campaign for the leadership of the federal Progressive Conservative Party. She later became the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs.
These days, at the age of 83 - she makes regular trips to Afghanistan in her capacity as founder of a development organization called Future Generations Canada.
She came into our Ottawa studio for our chat.

Irving is also co-founder of the Canadian International De-mining Corps. He says his proudest accomplishment is being appointed to the Order of Canada.

Darrell Dexter's NDP government wants to have the Cape Breton Regional Municipality's ongoing lawsuit on equalization dismissed. The CBRM says Nova Scotia has been shortchanging the municipality by at least 20million dollars a year since 1995.

Mentally ill people wending their way through our legal system will finally get special support. In two months from today, Nova Scotia's long-awaited mental health court will begin sitting. Judge Alfred Brien has been presiding over a mental health court in Saint John, NB for 9 years.
