Pitches

How Do I Get My Show On The CBC?

Pitches should be submitted along with a signed copy of the CBC's Submission Release form, which can be downloaded from this website. Your project will be entered into our confidential database when it is received and will be processed expediently. Producers can expect a response within four to six weeks. All proposals are reviewed on a regular basis. If there is interest in a project, the producer will be contacted for further discussion and refinement of the program proposal. Producers will be contacted should additional material be necessary or desirable in order to make a full and proper assessment.

Initial Stage

Pitches

  • The Presentation of the Concept (and any additional supporting material), which will be submitted to the appropriate Creative Head outlined in each Genre section of this site.
  • Please note that all pitches and submissions require a Submission Release Form.

Development Stages

There are basically six stages of the development process before a project is considered for Greenlight into Production.  These stages vary slightly as they apply to the individual projects.

Pre-Development

Project becomes a 'fleshed out pitch' and includes where required:

  • Outline
  • Research
  • Mini-Bible
  • Show Rundown

Development Phase A

Project enters formal development: scripts, bible, additional research, detailed outlines.

Development Phase B

Project continues development and has further drafts of scripts, casting conversations, preliminary financial model and budgets discussed.

Pilot Production

Project moves into production of the pilot or one-off.

Evaluation

Creative evaluation process takes place at this stage. Testing, schedule placement, promotion potential, digital platforms, talent packaging, further creative development if needed.

Green-light for Production

Decision to Green-light for production of the series based on final analysis of project re: budget, financing, digital rights, casting, distribution etc.
