Who We Are

The Documentary Science & Natural History Unit's flagship program The Nature of Things with David Suzuki is an award-winning series broadcast across Canada, as well as many countries around the world. The series explores issues, discoveries and events in the worlds of science, medicine, technology, wildlife and the environment. Analytic and humanist in perspective, it documents our increasingly complicated and interconnected world, seeking to interpret both advances and setbacks, at a time when the speed of change is ever accelerating.

How To Work With Us

Proposals can be submitted to the contact list below. If there is interest in a project, you will be contacted for further discussion and refinement of the program proposal. (General response time 4-6 weeks)

What We Are Looking For

Prime-time documentary programs in HD for The Nature of Things series, in the following areas:

  • Science
  • Medicine
  • Technology
  • Wildlife
  • The environment

In style and structure, the series values a strong cinematic story that can be told and documented by its primary characters, with emphasis on:

  • State-of-the-art scientific discovery, breakthroughs and new information
  • Unique access and well-developed research
  • Good narrative structure told through character and point-of-view perspectives

Your proposal should briefly (1 to 2 pages) and clearly outline the story focus, themes and characters. Additional information on the creative team, financing and the production company should be included if possible.

We will respond to all submissions within 4 - 6 weeks of receiving a signed CBC Submission Release Form. We cannot return materials submitted.
