CBC News: Igalaaq
CBC News: Igalaaq brings you the day's news in the Inuktitut language every evening at 6:00 PM Eastern time (5:00 p.m. MT). Viewers from Nunavut and the Northwest Territories are kept up to date by daily current events and news from the Inuit world.
Our host Rassi Nashalik has been with the program ever since it started in 1995. She is a champion for issues and events surrounding Inuit culture. Rassi was born in Pangnirtung and served as the Manager of Language Services for the Government of the Northwest Territories. She was an interpreter/translator for the Government of the Northwest Territories prior to the creation of Nunavut.
The high points of Rassi's television career include covering the celebration of the new territory of Nunavut from the capital city of Iqaluit, the Inuit Circumpolar Conference in Kuujjuaq, Northern Quebec, Hockey Day in Canada from Iqaluit and hosting a phone-in show on suicide. Rassi counts interviewing an elder in an igloo during the Arctic Winter Games was one of the biggest thrills.
