The Literary and Historical Society of Quebec became the first
scholarly organization in Canada, when it was founded in 1824 by the
Earl of Dalhousie, the Governor General of British North America. But
from the very beginning, the Society served as the cultural bastion for
an often-beleaguered English-speaking minority, within an increasingly
French-speaking city. IDEAS host
Paul Kennedy takes us
on an audio tour.
