Evan Solomon

Considered one of the top 100 people to watch by Maclean's magazine, Evan Solomon is host of CBC Newsworld's Hot Type and co-host of CBC News: Sunday and CBC News Sunday Night.

Hot Type is a provocative exploration of contemporary print culture - books, screenplays, magazines, newspapers, the internet - seen weekly on CBC Newsworld.

Prior to Hot Type, Solomon hosted The ChangeMakers, a special five-part series on CBC Television about people who have made a radical difference in the world. From 1994-97, Solomon was the host of FutureWorld, a Gemini Award-winning series on CBC Newsworld.

Solomon was also the host of a PBS co-production called Masters of Technology. The series examined the ideas and lives of some of today's most influential innovators.

Solomon is the co-founder of Shift, an international award-winning magazine about technology and culture. He was the editor-in-chief from 1992 -1999.

He has worked as a journalist and writer for publications throughout North America and Asia, including The Globe and Mail, The National Post, The Toronto Star and The South China Morning Post. His first novel, Crossing The Distance (1999), published by McClelland & Stewart, was a best-seller.

Now Evan is also a children's author. He's produced an imaginative story, Bigbeard's Hook, about a boy who has an adventure in his grandfather's magic attic.

In the book, Nathaniel finds an old pirate's hook in the attic, which takes him back in time for a confrontation with the fearsome Bigbeard. When the hook is returned to its rightful owner, the ship shudders, and "ba-zang," Nathaniel is back in the attic.

Born in Toronto, Solomon graduated from McGill University with a joint B.A. in English literature and religious studies. In addition, he has a masters in religious studies from McGill.

He is on the Toronto Daily Bread Foodbank's "Feedback Festival" committee and McGill University's Advisory Board for the Arts Department.
