Evan Solomon
Considered one of the top 100 people to watch
by Maclean's magazine, Evan Solomon is host of CBC Newsworld's
Hot Type and co-host of CBC News: Sunday and CBC News Sunday
Night.
Hot Type is a provocative exploration of contemporary
print culture - books, screenplays, magazines, newspapers,
the internet - seen weekly on CBC Newsworld.
Prior to Hot Type, Solomon hosted The ChangeMakers,
a special five-part series on CBC Television about people
who have made a radical difference in the world. From 1994-97,
Solomon was the host of FutureWorld, a Gemini Award-winning
series on CBC Newsworld.
Solomon was also the host of a PBS co-production
called Masters of Technology. The series examined the ideas
and lives of some of today's most influential innovators.
Solomon is the co-founder of Shift, an international award-winning
magazine about technology and culture. He was the editor-in-chief
from 1992 -1999.
He has worked as a journalist and writer for publications
throughout North America and Asia, including The Globe and
Mail, The National Post, The Toronto Star and The South China
Morning Post. His first novel, Crossing The Distance (1999),
published by McClelland & Stewart, was a best-seller.
Now Evan is also a children's author. He's produced an imaginative
story, Bigbeard's Hook, about a boy who has an adventure in
his grandfather's magic attic.
In the book, Nathaniel finds an old pirate's hook in the
attic, which takes him back in time for a confrontation with
the fearsome Bigbeard. When the hook is returned to its rightful
owner, the ship shudders, and "ba-zang," Nathaniel
is back in the attic.
Born in Toronto, Solomon graduated from McGill University
with a joint B.A. in English literature and religious studies.
In addition, he has a masters in religious studies from McGill.
He is on the Toronto Daily Bread Foodbank's "Feedback
Festival" committee and McGill University's Advisory
Board for the Arts Department.
Solomon has worked as a journalist and writer
for publications throughout North America and Asia, including
The Globe and Mail, The National Post, Toronto Life, The Toronto
Star and The South China Morning Post.
Born in Toronto, Solomon graduated from McGill
University with a B.A. in

Canada (Membership Chair), the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank's
Feedback Festival committee and McGill University's Advisory
Board for the Arts Department.

issues of technology, education and culture.
