Encore - Hot Air's 65th Anniversary

We're saying goodbye to 2012 by looking back on one of our big milestones -  turning 65 years old!. BC's jazz show first hit the airwaves on May 23, 1947. For our birthday broadcast we uncovered rare archival treasures and called on some special guests to help us look back on almost seven decades of great jazz. Please join us for an encore presentation of Hot Air's 65 anniversary show this Saturday afternoon.

Dal Richards!

The legendary bandleader has a busy schedule ahead. There's his 76th consecutive New Year's Eve gig, he's playing with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra come January and ...he's turning 95 years old in just a couple of weeks. We'll celebrate Vancouver's King of Swing, when Dal Richards pops by to share some tunes and some memories. Break out the bubbly!

Jazz for the Holidays!

This week on the show we'll play music to ease you into the spirit of the season. Over the past few weeks, Margaret has been collecting Christmas memories and musical picks from people she's run into at CBC HQ in Vancouver. This Saturday you'll hear from Company B, Evan Arntzen, George Stroumboulopoulos and many more.

Pop Goes Jazz!

Our studio guest will be bassist Jodi Proznick. We've asked her to come in with jazz performed by pop artists.
There are plenty of examples going the other way - jazz artists exploring pop music (and something we explored last week on Hot Air). But there are also some fine examples of pop artists tackling jazz tunes. Joni Mitchell comes to mind. And...what about Tina Turner, Joe Jackson and Lady Gaga? Join us this Saturday when Jodi brings us her picks. Plus, we'll pay tribute to pianist Dave Brubeck who died earlier this week. We've got a excerpt from an interview he did in 1966 with Hot Air's founding host Bob Smith.
