CBC Studio One Jazz - Phil Dwyer Septet

We've recorded some wonderful concerts during the Vancouver jazz festival. This Saturday afternoon, we'll bring you one of our favourites. Phil Dwyer put together a great septet to explore the Canadian songbook, with fresh arrangements of music by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and many others. Please join us for this Studio One special event.

BC Summer Jazz

VictoriaJazz_250.jpgWe'll get you ready for summer with a whirlwind trip around the province. We'll highlight some of the great jazz you'll hear at festivals, all over BC. From Victoria to Kaslo, we'll hit the road with swinging jazz soundtrack.




KatieMalloch_250.jpgPlus, we'll have a special visit from Katie Malloch. The long time host of CBC's network flagship jazz show will be in Vancouver for the jazz festival and will be hosting two of the CBC Studio One Jazz concerts. On Friday June 24th you can see her and Margaret Gallagher with the Nightcrawlers. And on Saturday she'll host the Phil Dwyer Septet and their tribute to the Canadian jazz songbook. Slower and Slower with Joe Coughlin

Joe Coughlin.JPGVictoria-based singer Joe Coughlin drops by for a chat and to spin some of his favorite CDs. You'll also get to hear tracks from his new album called Slow and Slower. It's a collection of choice ballads recorded over his four decades in the biz. He's got a wonderful, smoky voice that's won him three national jazz awards and the respect of musicians and listeners alike.

Special note: This Sunday there's a benefit concert for Rene Worst, one of the pillars of the Vancouver jazz community. More details here

Vince Mai

Vince Mai is an in demand session player, composer and jazz musician who has worked with artists such as Tom Jones, Natalie Cole and Ernan Lopez Nussa. He's just released his fifth solo album called "That's the Way of the World". Vince drops by for a chat and to spin some of his favorite tracks along with a couple cuts from the brand new record.
