In 1912, the cowgirl from Montana.won the bucking competition at the first Frontier Days and Cowboy Championship Contest, later called the Calgary Stampede. Shirley Morris, a documentary filmmaker based in Bend, Oregon, has made a film, Oh You Cowgirl!, about the early cowgirls of the 20th century, and the story of the rise and decline of women in rodeo as a pro sport.
