The Giller Prize
Tonight they will be handing out the Giller Prize--one of Canada's most
prestigious literary awards for English fiction. 3 of the 5 writers on the
Giller shortlist are from Montreal. Kim Thuy is up for her book Ru. Homerun's
Pierre Landry and Sue Smith spoke to Kim while she was getting ready for
tonights event.

Benoit Huot
Today 79 Olympic and Paralympic athletes from the Montreal area will be
honoured at City Hall. Benoit Huot is a paralympic swimmer and won gold, silver
and bronze medals in London. He was also the flagbearer for Team Canada at the
closing ceremonies. He spoke to Homerun's Sue Smith on the way to the
event.

-CRTC - decided that Bell will NOT be allowed to purchase Astral Media. Richard

Presidential Debate
The second presidential debate happens tonight at 9 and the heat is on
President Barack Obama. After the first presidential debate, Obama was
criticized for a lackluster performance. That was almost two weeks ago now.

Pauline Marois spent the day in Paris today, where she apparently had a
successful meeting with French President Francois Hollande. Hollande says he is
returning to the old policy of non-indifference and non-interferance in regards
to sovereignty. Louise Beaudoin is a former PQ MNA for Rosemont, former
International relations Minister and was Quebec delegate general to Paris.

Private Schools
Quebec's education minister wants private schools that receive government
funding to stop using entrance exams. Marie Malavoy says the exams are unfair
because they weed out students with learning difficulties. Quebec Association of
Independent Schools represents English private schools in the province. Michel
Lafrance is the executive-director.
