BREAST CANCER

The last few weeks have been confusing for women worried about breast cancer.
Canada released new guidelines last week saying screening for women in their 40s is not recommended.
But new research from the US released this week found women in their 40s could benefit from annual screenings.
Dr.Sarkis Meterissian is a professor of surgery and oncology and director of the Cedars Breast Clinic at the McGill University Health Centre.

Tonight Louis Leblanc is making his debut with the Montreal Canadians.
Leblanc is from Kirkland and he used to play for the Midget AAA Lac St Louis Lions
Raz Saltarelli is the General Manager and Assistant Coach of the team.
He coached Leblanc when he played for the team for two seasons.

SUN YOUTH

Every year at around this time Sun Youth donates toys to needy children.
For the first time in decades they don't have enough toys to go around.
But they got some good news this afternoon from the people at Foxmind Canada, a board game company.

St. Lawrence River

The provincial government is teaming up with Ottawa to help clean up the St. Lawrence River.
The 15-year plan aims to protect and conserve the waterway, and its ecosystem.

Hallway Interview: Film producer Jake Eberts

Film producer, and former Montrealer Jake Eberts joined us in studio.

He's financed or produced more than 50 films - including Gandhi, Dances With Wolves, and Driving Miss Daisy.

He will receive the Key of Knowledge Award from the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem at a ceremony tonight.

We asked him what his favourite on-set memory was.

TURCOT INTERCHANGE

Quebec's transport minister insists the Turcot Interchange is safe, despite inspection reports released today detailing problems with the structure.
 The province plans to spend millions of dollars to repair the structure, before it is replaced by a new one.
Hellen Christodoulou is a structural engineer.

Police are handing out eviction notices.

Today Canada Reads revealed the 5 books chosen for this years contest -- along with their celebrity defenders.
This year its called Canada Reads:True Stories.
It's the first time all the books have been non-fiction.
One of the celebrity defenders is used to arguing cases.
Montreal's own Anne-France Goldwater is a well known criminal lawyer.

OCCUPY MONTREAL

 
Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay has issued a statement saying Occupy protesters at Victoria Square must leave.
"The time has come for the protesters to find another way to get their message out," .
He said peace and security are not being maintained on the site.

Eddy Palchak

Longtime Montreal Canadiens trainer and equipment manager Eddy Palchak, has died.
Palchak spent more than 30 years with the Habs.
Rejean Houle played with the Canadiens from 70-73 and 76-83.
He's a former general manager and is now president of the team's alumi association.
He knew Eddy well.

It has been a busy week for Dr.Arthur Porter
On Tuesday the National Post wrote about his relationship with an international lobbyist named Ari Ben-Menashe.
On Thursday Porter resigned as chair of Canada's Security Intelligence Review Committee.
And yesterday the MUHC held an emergency, closed-door meeting to discuss his future.

HOCKEY DEATH

It's being described as a freak accident. 
A 16-year-old minor hockey player in Edmonton has died after being hit in the throat by a puck.   
The player was reportedly wearing the appropriate equipment, a neck guard. 
Mark Lidbetter is a referee for the Lakeshore Minor Hockey League Association.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On Remembrance Day, students from Laurier Macdonald High School get to spend the day at Bialik.
Many students from Laurier Mac have grandparents or great uncles who fought in WW2.
Meanwhile, students at Bialik have grandparents who were holocaust survivors
The goal today was to exchange these stories.
There were many special guests on hand--- including Veterans, holocaust survivors, and current soldiers.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the first ever shuttle arm.
Astronaut Chris Hadfield was the first Canadian to walk in space.
He's also the first Canadian to "fly" the Canadarm.
