Radio One - Homeless for the Holidays

Radio One - Homeless for the Holidays
On Sunday December 23rd, The World This Weekend will air a full edition special from New York City.

"Homeless for the Holidays" will look at how people affected directly by Hurricane Sandy are coping in the lead up to Christmas and New Years.

The superstorm ripped through the northeastern US in October causing more than $60 billion dollars in damage. It left thousands of people homeless.  Now as the holiday season approaches, they are struggling to rebuild their homes and their lives.

Host Marcia Young will visit with families in the most affected areas to see how they are coping and planning for the holidays.

She'll also talk to first responders who fought to save lives and property, only to discover their own homes were destroyed.  In New York alone nearly 2000 police officers and firefighters suffered a catastrophic loss.

Weekends at 6 p.m. (7 p.m. AT, 7:30 p.m. NT) on CBC Radio One
