First Person
The original tenants of the Montreal Forum, the building that became famous for housing the rival Canadiens, the Montreal Maroons played in the NHL from 1924-1938, winning the Stanley Cup twice. Montreal's "other" team typically lagged behind the Canadiens in popularity and, under the financial strains of the Great Depression, folded after the 1937-38 season. Lorne Duguid played parts of three seasons with the Maroons during his seven-year NHL career.
Lorne Duguid explains why the Montreal Maroons were called "the New
York Yankees of hockey"; discusses their departure from the NHL; and
talks about fighting in the NHL in his day.
