Food Column: Elton on Turkish Pide

Our food columnist Sarah Elton joined us today to report on Turkish pide. This dish is often called Turkish pizza, but really deserve to be recognized as a dish of its own. A pide is different from a pizza in shape-it's oblong rather than round-and although it is covered with cheese and usually some kind of meat, there isn't tomato sauce on a pide. And it is a dish that is prepared differently, depending on the city. So at Pizza Pide, where Sarah visited, you can eat your way across some big cities of northern Turkey. Sarah went to Pizza Pide at 949 Gerrard Street East. But you can also find pide in North York at Mustafa Turkish Pizza on Wilson. Listen audio (runs 7:14)
