Now I can sleep at nights again! Sorry for getting this to you so late, because we were hoping to post this much earlier than today. One reason for postponement led to another, and then all of a sudden we were caught up in first the U.S. Series launch and then the Canadian 4th Season launch and I wanted to make sure Tom's answers didn't get lost in a flurry of blog posts. So for everyone who was looking forward to Stunt Coordinator Tom Eirikson's answers - including the constantly reminding Free Spirit (and I thank you for that, Heartland fan!) - here they are! Click through to the blog for Tom's answers.

It's tough being in two places at once. While the Heartland Christmas movie was being filmed in Calgary the post-production on episodes 317 and 318 was being done in Toronto so Heather was spending a lot of time flying back and forth.
The good news is that filming on the movie wrapped on Friday and everyone is thrilled with the results. Like you, they can hardly wait for December to air it.
The better news is that the series finale (which Heather wrote, and you still have a chance to win an autographed script of it here) is primed to roll on Sunday, and she knows you're going to like it!
The best news is that Heather was able to take the time to answer your questions before flying off once again, this time on a well deserved vacation! Click through to read 'em!

Well - as expected - we were kinda overwhelmed with the questions sent in for Amber to answer, but because she's awesome, she's going to answer twice as many! Since she's hard at work every day on the Heartland Christmas movie I didn't want to take up ALL of her spare time over the weekend, so the questions have been broken up into two batches, the second of which will be posted next week.
As for the first batch... here they be!!! Read away and enjoy!!!

Last week, Heartland author Lauren Brooke told us about her childhood horse in England and her hopes of making a cameo appearance on a future episode of CBC's Heartland. This week, she answers more of your questions. Our thanks again to Ms. Brooke, working partners and Scholastic Canada!
Q: Do you like that your books were made into a TV show?
- Taylor
Lauren Brooke: I'm delighted! Especially as the TV show is so well-produced, with stunning scenery and a talented cast who fit the characters perfectly. Thanks, CBC!

This is the first of our 2-part Q&A series with Lauren Brooke, author of the Heartland books. We reached Lauren in London, England through Working Partners, the talented team of editors who put out Lauren's books. We asked her some of the top questions posted here on the blog and in Heartland's Facebook group. The busy Ms. Brooke kindly answered a lot of your questions.
We'll post part two -- where Lauren talks about her inspiration for her stories and characters, whether she's happy Heartland was made into a TV show and tackles your questions about the future of Ty and Amy in her books -- next week.

Here are a few answers to the most common questions we get here at the Heartland blog. There are even more in the Q&A section of the blog:
Q: Why aren't the online episodes available in the U.S.?
A: Due to broadcast rights and restrictions, the episodes can only legally be broadcast within Canada. If a network in another country buys the rights to Heartland, then they will be able to show it within their country. So far, Canada is the only country where Heartland is broadcast.
Q: Why is Amy/Lou/Tim etc. different in the show than in the books?
A: We get asked this question a lot. Fans of the books are often surprised by the way in which the writers chose to portray Ty. Although it may seem on the surface like TV-Ty and Book-Ty are polar opposites, as the season progresses, you'll see Ty change and grow in many ways. While TV-Ty may have a different back-story than Book-Ty, the heart of the character remains the same.
The other changes the writers made, such as the addition of Mallory's character, are meant simply to create good television. Because a novel and a TV show are two very different mediums, it's not always possible to adapt a book directly into a teleplay. So the rule of thumb is this - if a writer creates a story line or character that's not in the book, it should fit into the world that Lauren Brooke has originated without seeming out of place. We think Mallory fits right in with the Fleming Family and adds a unique and humourous perspective to the show. We hope you agree!
Q: Where is Heartland filmed?
A: Heartland is filmed in and around Calgary, Alberta, Canada. There's lots of the local scenery, including the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, in the show.
Q: Will there be a second (or third, or fourth...) season of Heartland?
A: Right now, there is no official word on further seasons of Heartland, but the audience numbers have been encouraging, as have the opinions about the show. If you'd like to see another season of Heartland, the best thing you can do is keep watching and tell all your friends and family to watch too! When the next season gets announced, we'll let you know here first!
Q: When are the DVDs coming out?
A: We're excited to see them too. We'll announce it as soon as we know.
Q: Why don't you answer the questions I post here? Can you e-mail me when you know if there will be a second season?
A: The comment board is mainly so you can talk to each other (although we read 'em all). We post the answers to the most commonly asked questions (Will there be another season? Who's Mallory? Why are the books and show different?). Check out the Q&A section of the blog, if you have a question and you don't see the answer in the blog, post the question here!
Answers to a lot of your questions about Amber, Michelle, Graham, Nathaniel, Jessica and Cindy can be found in our podcasts. Check them out! Our four hosts (chosen from Heartland fans in our Facebook group) did a fantastic job.

Metro's Celeb Beauty columnist Marcy Cornblum asked Graham to explain how he stays so darned handsome:
Q: What products make you look and feel good?Read More »A: A good hot shower and shave make my day a whole lot better.
Q: Describe your style?
A: T-shirt and jeans with skate shoes is what I like to wear. I like stuff that says "I'm laid back, life is good." I don't pay much attention to fashion trends. If there's something in a store that makes me happy, I'll buy it.
Q: How do you keep life in perspective?
A: I focus on what I can control and where I want to go with my life. As I grow, I will expand my abilities and therefore have more to focus on. One step at a time!
Q: How do you stay fit?
A: I go for a run, hit the gym when I can, and do morning push-ups and sit-ups. Sometimes my friends and I will get together for a ball hockey tournament or a friendly game of tackle football.
Q: What are your healthy eating habits?
A: I have this thing where I eat whatever will make me feel good after I'm done eating it. It ends up being mostly healthy food, but sometimes I'll eat a box of mac and cheese. Link

Who's Mallory? Why did Ty's last name change? Will Ty and Amy get together? We passed on your questions to the busy folks in Heartland's Story Department. Here are their answers:
Q: I know there are only something like 23 books, but will the producers go beyond that amount, or will it just be one season and that's it?
A: In the first season of Heartland, our writers (Heather Conkie, David Preston and Leila Basen) have drawn from some of the story lines found in the first 8 books of the series. There are also several episodes that use Lauren Brooke's novels as a launching point, but mostly come from the imaginations of the writers.
As for a second season of Heartland, that's a decision that the CBC will be making over the next few months. Although there are many factors involved in whether or not a series goes to a second season, one of the major considerations is audience numbers. If you'd like to see another season of Heartland, the best thing you can do is keep watching and tell all your friends and family to watch too!
Q: I don't get why they made Ty so different than in the book (in the book he's not a criminal and he already knows about horses)? Why did they change things from the book? Who the heck is Mallory?
Q: Why are some of the character and place names in the TV series different than in the book?
A: Some of the names have been changed for clearance reasons. All this means is, we check to make sure we're not using names that may come into conflict with real people and places. For example, we changed "Green Briar" to "Briar Ridge" because there is a real stable called Greenbriar.
Q: Why is it that in the first episode, Amber (Amy) is wearing a jacket and there's snow and she goes to school -- and then in the second she's on summer holidays?
A: The writers wanted enough time to pass between the pilot and the second episode to give Amy a chance to grieve the loss of her mother. That way, when we come back in Ep. 2, Amy has returned to a certain kind of routine at Heartland.
Q: Does Lauren Brooke have any input into the show? Does she like it?
A: Lauren Brooke isn't involved in the making of the television series, but we're all big fans of the books, so we hope she's enjoying our interpretation.
Q: Is there a real horse whisperer who works with the show?
A: While we don't have somebody on set who calls themselves a "horse whisperer," we do have a very experienced team of wranglers who train the horses to perform the incredible stunts you see in each episode.
Q: I was wondering if Amy always rides Western or is it different horses that you use different saddles for, or what?
A: So far, Amy has been riding Spartan mostly Western, but as the season progresses, you'll see her riding English more often, particularly as we get closer to the Fall Finale.
Q: Is Amy going to date Ty? Is Ty going to come back? Is Ashley going to date Ty?
A: You'll have to tune in on Sunday Dec 2 to find out!

So really, what do you think of the blog? What about the site? Send us your comments and questions about Heartland.
Here are a couple of the questions we've had so far:
Q: One episode was dedicated to Joan Murphy. Who was Joan Murphy?
A: Director Ron Murphy's mom, who recently passed away.
Q: Is there a real town called Hudson, Alberta?
A: Alas, no. The show is filmed in and around Calgary.
Have questions for the producers, writers or stars? Post them here. We don't have space to answer them all, but we'll pick one a week and try to find you the answer!
