Amber Marshall talked to the London Free Press about season two, fans and Facebook:
Marshall said from her London home that the show resonates with viewers because it is so true to life and there is no other family drama like Heartland currently on TV.Read More »"I know so many of the fans love the show as far as it being so wholesome. The problem with a lot of TV shows now is the story lines are almost unrealistic."
Marshall has heard that CBC wants 18 episodes this time, five more than the season which just ended.
In preparation for filming, which starts in May, the 19-year-old has been doing a lot of horseback riding as her character handles horses a lot in Heartland. (On Heartland's website, each horse has a character description.)
"I've been riding quite frequently and training my mom's two-year-old (horse). (I'm) getting back in shape for riding all summer."
Right now she's enjoying communicating with her viewers through a facebook fan account she stared. Marshall said every day she gets about 40 messages.
"I get questions about my personal life in general. I like them to get the information directly from me instead of all sorts of different (rumours) starting and not knowing what's true."
She said unfortunately that kind of fan interaction will come to an end soon when she starts work on season two.
Marshall will likely be filming right through to December. "I'm going to have too much of a working schedule to maintain that (the Facebook site)."
Marshall said her fans range from eight-year-old children right up to seniors.
"It's such a huge range because we've got so much to offer for every age group. We've got the different story lines that everyone can relate to." Link

A very sad story (warning: some of the details are graphic). The SPCA spokesman in the story says these sorts of stories are, fortunately, rare in Alberta:
Starving horses seized from Alberta ranch
Animal-welfare officials have seized 27 dead horses as well as about 100 they found starving, but alive, from a ranch northeast of Edmonton. More

Metro's Celeb Beauty columnist Marcy Cornblum asked Graham to explain how he stays so darned handsome:
Q: What products make you look and feel good?Read More »A: A good hot shower and shave make my day a whole lot better.
Q: Describe your style?
A: T-shirt and jeans with skate shoes is what I like to wear. I like stuff that says "I'm laid back, life is good." I don't pay much attention to fashion trends. If there's something in a store that makes me happy, I'll buy it.
Q: How do you keep life in perspective?
A: I focus on what I can control and where I want to go with my life. As I grow, I will expand my abilities and therefore have more to focus on. One step at a time!
Q: How do you stay fit?
A: I go for a run, hit the gym when I can, and do morning push-ups and sit-ups. Sometimes my friends and I will get together for a ball hockey tournament or a friendly game of tackle football.
Q: What are your healthy eating habits?
A: I have this thing where I eat whatever will make me feel good after I'm done eating it. It ends up being mostly healthy food, but sometimes I'll eat a box of mac and cheese. Link

Sixteen-year-old Amanda Gerber, a competitive horse jumper and honour student at Calgary's Bishop O'Byrne, seemed destined to win CBC Alberta's Heartland Be A Star for A Day contest. "I love horses and I love the show," she said.
The cast and crew on the Heartland set treated Amanda like a member of the family during her visit, the grand prize of the contest open to folks in Alberta. She also went home with an autographed group photo of the cast members, and a Heartland sweater as mementos of her special day.
Not only did Amanda meet and chat with the entire cast and crew of Heartland, she had dinner with the stars, got star costume, hair and make-up treatment and got her own trailer for breaks on the set at Calgary's Currie Barracks.
Watch Amanda's story:

From Friday's Globe and Mail:
Welcome back, Heartland. This gorgeous family drama, set in the Calgary foothills, returns to CBC after a three-week break. It's a western where the women spend much of their time in tank tops, the stable boys are stud muffins and the horses are as important to the story as any human actor. (On the show's website, each horse has its own character description.) The series is midway through its run and picks up Sunday with Episode 5, a lighter-themed hour that has bossy Lou (Michelle Morgan) making everyone perform for a commercial she's making to promote the struggling Heartland ranch. Ty (Graham Wardle), who has left the ranch for a better job, finds his new employer isn't as forgiving as Grampa Jack, and Amy (Amber Marshall) confronts him for the first time since he took off. Beau Mirchoff (Ben Stillman)
The Victoria Times Colonist talked to Beau Mirchoff (Ben) on playing "a playing a cocky, arrogant, stuck-up rich kid," learning to ride and falling in love...
So how did our dashing dude manage to get cast as a character who rides horses when he had never been on one? Mirchoff confesses he had to bend the truth when asked if he had any riding experience. "I said, 'Uh, yeah. My uncle owned a ranch in Washington. I used to go there every summer but I'll probably need a couple of lessons,' " he recalls, chuckling. He figured his natural ability to adapt to new physical challenges would kick in. LinkRead More »

Well, the reviews are in, and they are good. Heartland debuted last week to an eager audience, and we've had tons of comments saying the show was great. We're glad you like it.
This week's episode explored the idea of 'second chances.' Ty getting a second chance with Jack, Amy getting a second chance with Swallow and Lou getting a second chance at proving she's able to run the ranch. We also saw Soraya, who urged Amy to give show jumping a... you guessed it, second chance.
So, with all this talk about second chances, we're asking this: Which character do you believe most deserves a second chance, and why? You can post your answers in the comment section for all to see.
What did everyone think of Jenn Grant's song? Great eh? Just goes to show that there are amazing Canadian musicians everywhere, waiting to be heard, and it's great that Heartland is featuring them. We're going to be posting more in coming weeks so stay tuned.
Later this week, due to overwhelming popular demand, we're posting some videos taken behind the scenes. We have hours of footage, and we're going through to pick the best stuff to post here. Does anyone have any requests?
Here's a link to an interview Amber Marshall (Amy Fleming) did with Jam!Showbiz: http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/ Be sure to check back later in the week to see the videos we're posting. You never know who is going to turn up!
