Odds and Ends

Happy Thursday, Heartlanders!

It's been an unusual summer in the area of Canada where television's favourite family drama is filmed. Normally early August is when the hottest, sultry days occur, but this summer has produced unusually warm days throughout July. Not that anyone in the area is complaining; let's hope the warm weather continues as far along into the production schedule as possible.

It was not all that sunny or warm on May 12, when the production photo at the top of this page was taken. This was shot by stills photographer Andrew Bako during the filming of block 1 and the crew is standing just to the right of the gallow's gate with the Heartland sign hanging from it. It is an important scene from episode 1102 featuring Jade (Madison Cheeatow) and Georgie (Alisha Newton).

Looking at the photos taken so far I can tell you that they are going to be fantastic images, both of the cast acting and of the production, that I am going to be presenting to you on all our platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and of course right here on the Heartland on CBC's official website.

One week ago the gallery photos were taken. These are going to be awesome, and some will be used to create the key art for Season 11 of the series, while others will serve as portraits of the cast. You will be seeing many of these in a few weeks.

Why in a few weeks? Because we are just 45 days away from the premiere of season 11. That's right, folks, on Sunday, September 24 across Canada at 7:00pm (7:30pm in parts of Newfoundland) episode 1101 will be airing on CBC! 45 days is just 6 weeks and 3 days away. Not bad, huh Canada?

For those of you not in Canada, please note that Heartland will not be broadcast outside of Canada until all of season 11 has aired on CBC.

Now today's blog is going to be just a few odds and ends, but they are important odds and ends.

Let's start with the titles of episodes 1111, written by Mark Haroun - "Somewhere in Between," and 1112, written by Ken Craw - "Out of the Shadows." That will get some of you guessing, no?

Now some of you may be wondering how my BW Guarantee of over 1,000 production tweets this season is coming along. Wonder no more, for it is coming along just fine. After 4 of 9 production blocks, I have tweeted 484 tweets with the #HLinProd (for Heartland in Production) hashtag. So I am right ahead of my targeted goal.

I try to make the tweets informative, educational and fun. Sometimes there are photos and other times there is just text. Sometimes it varies because of my ability (or inability) to get photos from the set. Other times what is being shot is just too sensitive or would be too much of a spoiler. But don't worry, I'm staying true to my promise so you will be seeing over 500+ more tweets before the season wraps production in early December.

Now I have some geographically interesting news for fans in the Toronto and Calgary areas.

First Toronto;

Amber Marshall will be making an appearance on Saturday, August 19 at the Canadian National Exhibition from 3:00pm to 4:30pm and some lucky fans will be able to meet her. It's all part of the CBC @ CNE, which will run at the annual event from August 18 - 22 from 10:00am to 10:00pm. If you are in the Toronto area and are interested, read more about it and everything CBC at the CNE here - http://bit.ly/2uL06Po

Now Calgary;

The fans as extras day will likely be on Thursday, September 7 in an area where fans have never seen filming before. I will have more information in a later blog, including how you can register to be a background extra in episode 1110, but I wanted to give you the date nice and early. And I know, the last two years the date has shifted, but so far the first Thursday in September is looking pretty solid. Details to follow.

Win a set visit - another raffle and chances for you to win.

Heartland has donated a set visit for a group of four to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Alberta. This wonderful organization grants wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope strength and joy. Over the past years, we have hosted many children whose wishes were to visit the set of Heartland and meet the cast.

When a call went out for donations to keep MaW rolling along Heartland donated a set visit. The tickets are going on sale and next week I will have full details on how you can purchase some in next Thursday's blog.

On a similar note, congratulations to the Clearwater Horse Club in Fort McMurray for successfully selling all of their raffle tickets to raise approximately $10,000 to help rebuild their premises, much of which was lost in the horrible fires of 2016. Soon the winner will be notified and they will be coming to the Heartland ranch with their group to watch a day of filming.

So that's all there is today. I said "odds and ends" and that is what I have given you. I, of course, will be back next week with more news and production progress reports. Next Thursday we will be very close to the midpoint of filming. And we will be seven days closer to September 24, when a new episode will air on CBC. Oh yeah!!!!!

Until then I remain, as always, obediently yours.
