Today's Blog post - It's the Months of Mallory, and some answers!

For the 3rd week in a row I'm getting all nostalgic with character photos from all the seasons of Heartland. First up was "Amy through the Ages," featuring 6 photos of Amy Fleming from 2006 - 2011, with one photo from each of the seasons and an early one from the pilot, which was filmed a year earlier than Season 1. I followed that up last week with "Ty through Time," giving you 6 photographs of Ty Borden from the same pilot episode and subsequent 5 seasons.

Well, this week I'm keeping that theme of alliteration alive (as best as I can...) with pre-the months of Mallory, by presenting some photos of Mallory Wells, portrayed through the years by Jessica Amlee, from the first 5 seasons of Heartland. Click on through and check 'em out at the bottom of the page!

No New Heartland this Sunday, but 3 new episodes starting next week!

Episode 305

So here we are, taking our first break this Sunday (October 9) from broadcasting a new episode of Heartland.

As I explained on the Facebook Page yesterday, "Hockey Night in Canada" is going to broadcast the first home game of the new Winnipeg Jets - a clash with the Montreal Canadiens - on Sunday, October 9 across the entire CBC Network, and although in the Pacific and Mountain Time zones the game may be over by 7:00pm, new episodes of Heartland are never broadcast unless all of Canada can watch them at 7:00pm (7:30pm in Newfoundland!) on a Sunday evening.

In a way the producers and everyone involved with Heartland are not that concerned with there being no new episode in three days, because that is also the Sunday before Thanksgiving in Canada, and a new episode has aired every Thanksgiving Sunday for the first 4 seasons, and the viewing audience was WAY down from the numbers the regular episodes received. So in some ways it's a good thing!

Now, instead of a new episode, viewers in BC (and possibly in Alberta) will get to watch a rerun of episode 305 - Glory Days. Those great photos of Amy and Jack in this post are from that episode.

Why Glory Days you ask? A good question. Is there something in that episode that is a foreshadowing of something still ahead in Season 5? Another good question, to which my answer is... maybe... ! (Heh heh) Read on...

Thursday, September 1 - Graham, a Gemini and Gremlins

Alberta Watson

Today's word for some of you to learn is 'deviate', which is a verb that means

1 - to depart from an established course, or
2 - to depart from usual or accepted standards. (Entertain and educate - it's what I love to do!)

And deviating is what I'm doing on this particular Thursday, 'cause instead of titling this post with the regular, "Thursday, September 1 - Now we're at 17 Days to go until Season 5 premieres," I thought I'd put up something a little different...

Meet someone who knows the name of Lou & Peter's baby!

A few months ago Heartland ran a "Name Peter & Lou's Baby" contest that had tens of thousands of entries from fans across Canada.

The prize was Heartland DVDs, an autographed poster from the series, and of course bragging rights because the winner would forever be a part of the Heartland saga, for that person would be the one who first suggested the first name for a new (and newborn) character on Heartland.

Thursday, August 11 - Now we're at 38 Days to go until Season 5 premieres!

Heartland!

After coming up with playing cards and references to records and pistols to relate to previous weeks' countdown numbers, I find myself stumped at what to do with 38.

So I'm going to throw out another MAJOR countdown number - 82. That is the number of days until November 1, 2011. What's happening on November 1? Click through to find out!

Thursday, August 4 - Now we are at 45 Days to go until Season 5 premieres!

Dean and Chris

That's right, everyone - you don't have to be a mathematician to figure out how to count down to the September 18 Season 5 Premiere of Heartland! All you have to do is go to the previous Thursday's blog posting on this site and subtract 7 from the number of days in the heading.

So let's see... 52 minus 7 equals... wait, let me google it... YES... 45!

Alright then! 45 days to go until Sunday, September 18, when - at 7:00pm (7:30pm in Newfoundland!) The first of 18 brand new episodes of Heartland will premiere on CBC Television across Canada.

Last week --when there were 52 days remaining-- I used an image of playing cards, 52 of which make up a complete deck.

So for the photo to go along with this week's blog post why didn't I use an image of a Colt 45 pistol, or a 45 RPM record (whatever those are) or just the Roman numerals XLV? Why did I use an old production photo from Heartland?

I'm so glad you asked!

Thursday, July 28 - Looking at 52 Days to go until Season 5 premieres!

52!

"Are those Heartland playing cards for real?" you might ask. The answer is no... and yes. No, because they don't really exist, except in Photoshop. And yes (well, metaphorically) because anyone who has ever played cards knows that a standard deck of playing cards contain 52 cards and 52 is the number of days that now separate today from September 18, when the 5th Season of Heartland premieres on CBC Television at 7:00pm (7:30pm Newfoundland)!!! So in that respect a deck of cards is a real representation of how long we all have to wait. I know, I know... it's a bit of a stretch :P

Amber at the Stampede parade last year

Well, last week I gave you a lot of info that has the discussion boards, the blog and Facebook lit up with speculation, which is exactly what I like (alas - Blog Whisperers are all born with a cruel gene that sadly rears itself every once in a while...)

Repeating the Season 4 Premiere this Sunday, but there's LOTS new in today's post

It's Blair!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, there is no new episode of Heartland for everyone to watch this Sunday, because that national tradition known as The Grey Cup - the championship game of the Canadian Football League - takes place in Edmonton. And because so many Canadians are going to be watching it was decided - as it has been for past seasons - to not run a new episode of Heartland.

So instead, at 7:00pm CBC will be running a repeat of "Homecoming," the Season 4 premiere. This will give everyone the opportunity to dislike Blair all over again. But don't despair; there will be a brand new episode next week for all to enjoy (see below).

I'm not going to go into any additional details about the first episode of the season, which most of you have probably seen. Instead, I'm going to take this Thursday opportunity to let you know about some cool stuff, and to also take a little time and answer some of the questions that have popped up over the past few months. Going to the Royal Winter Fair to see Amber and Graham? Want a wristband?

Wristband_RWF.jpgOkay Toronto (and area) Heartland fans! As you probably know, Amber and Graham are going to be signing autographs at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto this Sunday from 12 - 2. As a LOT of fans show up for these sort of events, the RWF is going to be distributing wristbands in the autograph area (Heritage Court) starting at 9:00AM. What a wristband gives you is a guaranteed autograph - not to say that those in line without wristbands won't get through, but with a wristband you are SURE. So come early!

BUT... I managed to get my hands on 8 of these coveted items in advance, and I'm giving them out on The Heartland Facebook page at http://facebook.com/cbcheartland and the Official Heartland Site at http://cbc.ca/heartland/

What do you have to do to get one? It's easy! All you have to do is prove to me that you REALLY want one! The twist?

WITH A PHOTOGRAPH.

The photo is up to you... use your imagination. Is it you on a horse? You holding Heartland stuff? You holding up a sign? Something even cooler?

SO... If you are on the Heartland site, head over to the Community Forum and click on the brand new shiny Photo Board link http://www.cbc.ca/heartland/community/gallery.html and upload a picture that proves to us that you REEEAAALLLY want a wristband. Make sure you have the word "wristband" in the caption, then come back to the blog and tell me that you entered (by commenting on this post.)

OR... if you prefer, you can upload your photo to the wall of the official Heartland Facebook page at http://facebook.com/cbcheartland Again, make sure you put "wristband" in the caption!

ONE PHOTO PER PERSON ONLY!

We will randomly select winners from both the Blog and the Facebook page and let them know by Friday night.

Remember, this is for wristbands only - admission to the fair is still up to you.

Ready... set... GO!!!!

***UPDATE: The Wristband giveaway contest is now closed. We will be drawing names this evening and letting people know by email.

Remember, the rest of the wristbands will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Royal Winter Fair near the autograph signing area, beginning at 9AM! So come early!

Amber and Graham signing at the Royal Winter Fair: Update!

Amber and Graham

Yes, same graphic I know, but now with added information!

Autograph signing details:

The Date: Sunday November 7, 2010

The Time: 12:00PM - 2:00PM

The Location: Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Heritage Court Building in the Direct Energy Centre (100 Princess Blvd.)

Upon arrival fans can head to the main entrance of the Heritage Court Building to the Toronto Star Autograph area.

Every year a LOT of people show up to meet Amber and Graham, so in order to help avoid disappointment, we're doing something a little different this time around. We will be distributing wristbands to the first 200 people that show up. These wristbands guarantee you a place in line, an autograph, etc.

To be clear: if you don't get a wristband, it doesn't mean that you won't get an autograph, it's just that wristband-holders are guaranteed an autograph.

Other Notes:

-While we will try to accommodate everyone, wristbands will be limited to 200 fans

-Fans can get wristbands by visiting the Heritage Court main entrance starting at 9AM on Sunday November 7th. These will be handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis.

-I managed to get my hands on TEN wristbands, so I will be giving them out here on the blog and on the Official Facebook page starting tomorrow! So make sure you check back!

** Last little bit of information: some fans may be under the impression that the following weekend Amber will be signing autographs on November 14th after the Woof and Hoof event she is co-hosting at the RAWF. This is not the case. She will ONLY be signing autographs during the allotted time on Sunday November 7th.

And just for fun, here's a short video of the recent Heartland Cast signing at the Spruce Meadows Masters this past September. Click though to the blog post to watch it!

Amber wearing a hat

Things are certainly ramping up for the fourth season of Heartland. I for one can't wait! But to fill in some time I have some news of upcoming blog happenings and cast appearances that will occur before then. Click through to the blog post for a MAJOR update!

Thursday, August 12: Heartland - rescuing neglected and abused farm equipment

Millie

Recently I've been starting with a proverb, so here I go again: "Truth is stranger than fiction."

If the writers incorporated the following story into the plot of an episode of Heartland you'd say "COME ON... that would never happen!" But everything that follows is totally true. Even the names have not been changed... Click through to the blog post for the scoop!

Thursday, August 5 - over half way through the "tick... tick... ticks"

Amy and Ty

What's that proverbial expression... "Time flies when you're having fun!"?

We're now more than half way through our countdown to the September 26 Season 4 premiere of Heartland. It was way back on Thursday (of course), May 27, accompanied by a drum roll (we spare no expense here on the Heartland blog!) when I announced that there were 17 Thursdays and 122 days to go until the new episodes began airing in Canada on the CBC. Q&A with Heartland's DOP - extended!

Hi everyone!

I realize that at this time of the summer many of you are away here and there, so I am leaving open the Q&A with Craig Wrobleski, one of Heartland's DOPs (Directors of Photography) for a few more days, just so everyone has a chance to ask him something.

Craig is one the people that actually shoots the show and determines how everything is going to look on screen, so if you have any questions about the amazing filming you see on Heartland, this is your chance!

The Thursday update - everything old is new again!

Heartland Photos

Well, last Saturday was the annual Heartland gallery day, and still photographer Andrew Bako shot more than one thousand photos of the cast at the ranch set of the series. There were some absolutely brilliant images of your favourite Heartland cast members taken, and pretty soon you are going to see a lot of them appearing on this site.

In the meantime, I decided to revisit the 800+ photos Andrew shot last year at the 2009 gallery day and select some that you have never seen before. I hope you enjoy them!

Thursday, July 15 - the "dog days of summer" Heartland update

Stained Glass

Okay, it's not really the "dog days." More like the "horse days" because after all, that's what Heartland is all about, but maybe if we call it the dog days then perhaps the weather will improve for filming. And we can call it that in honour of certain very special dogs.

Today it is totally gorgeous, but the last three days have all seen rain during parts of the day and Tuesday had a MASSIVELY heavy hailstorm. It was worse in the city of Calgary where hailstones the size of Toonies (or silver dollars, if you happen to live in the U.S.) pelted parts of the city for about five minutes. Five minutes seems like such a short time, doesn't it? Well, there were dents in cars, roof damage and bruised noggins all over. The downpour was so bad they had to cancel the chuckwagon races and the grandstand show at the Calgary Stampede, something no one can remember ever being done before. Click though for more info and the answers to some of your questions!!!!

Amber at the Calgary Stampede Parade

Heartland fan KMA88 just sent these in some pics of Amber at the Calgary Stampede parade, along with this note:

"The parade was fantastic! I had to walk 12 blocks to find Amber and even walked past her once. How did that happen? Amber did a terrific job. I was able to chat with her after the parade. She's a total sweetheart! Goldie, the horse, was pooped by the end of it though!"

The Calgary Stampede Parade's roaming reporter - Amber Marshall!

Amber at the Calgary Stampede Parade

Last Friday the parade for the Calgary Stampede kicked off bright and early on a hot sun soaked day and the national television coverage was provided by the CBC. After chatting with co-hosts Nirmala Naidoo, Kristina Barnes and Doug Dirks, Amber saddled up on "Goldie," a gentle palomino, and together they rode up and down the 9th Avenue parade route, interviewing celebrities and guests of the Stampede who were riding in the parade. The Thursday Heartland update, one day early... or is it?

Nathaniel

I promised you every Thursday I'd post a new update for Heartland fans to read, but as I write this it is Wednesday across Canada, the day before Canada Day.

And because Canada Day is a national holiday, I along with most Canadians will be away from the proverbial workplace tomorrow. We will be celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act, which joined a couple of British colonies and a province of the British Empire into this country called Canada. My method of celebration involves lying on a dock in the sun. What's yours? Anyway, happy birthday to us all!

But y'know... thanks to the spherical nature of the earth, resulting in time zones, as of 10:00am today (Wednesday) in Toronto it is Thursday in eastern Australia, so technically this is a Thursday posting. Fair dinkum? :)

Now that I've given you a brief Canadian history lesson (remember my pledge to educate and entertain?) let's talk about some things concerning Heartland... Click through to the blog post to find out more and read some answers to your questions!

If it's Thursday this must be a Heartland update!

What might have been...t

Have you noticed the days are starting to lose a wee bit of daylight? Well I haven't, but they are... really! Oh, unless you live in the southern hemisphere... which I know some of you do! But now at least (and at last!) it is Summer in the land of Heartland! YES! Time to do all the lazy, hazy, crazy things that one does in Summer!

BUT... someone needs to tell whoever arranges the weather in Alberta to stop picking on Heartland! On Tuesday the cast and crew were filming some great outdoor scenes with horses when the blue sky vanished and clouds rolled in. Soon there was thunder and lightning and then filming had to be delayed for over 40 minutes when the clouds opened up and an intense hailstorm pelted the countryside. Now I ask you - is this any way to treat a nice television series? Click though to the Heartland Blog to read LOTS more!

Another week, another Heartland Thursday

Amy and Ghost

Well, this is the last Thursday of Spring! Within a week summer will be officially here. And also within a week the days will start to get shorter in the northern hemisphere. But we must take the good and the bad together.

Speaking of, on the set of Heartland, where Episodes 403 and 404 are being filmed as you read this, there has been a lot of rain. The bad news is that sometimes it make for a little difficulty when filming, but director Dean Bennett and the talented crew and cast are getting the job done. Today's Heartland Update - Recalling Some Details About Yesterday

Torrance, Amber, and Graham

Okay, I wrote this on Wednesday, and yesterday to Wednesday is Tuesday, so...

What happened on Tuesday was that the CBC had a fall sales launch at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary for the advertisers and clients of the network. They all gathered and saw a great promo on the upcoming fall season, of which Heartland is a big part of (7:00pm on Sundays beginning September 26 - as if you didn't know that!!!) and saw the fabulous fall line up for the CBC. Let's just say, Sunday nights are going to be awesome. Click through to the blog post for tons new Heartland information!

Thursday's child has far to go...

Amber, from the pilot

Ah, another Thursday has arrived. The title of this post is from the old English nursery rhyme that goes: "Monday's child is fair of face. Tuesday's child is full of grace. Wednesday's child is full of woe. Thursday's child has far to go..."

The rhyme was used to help young children remember the names of the days of the week, but I always thought it kinda sucked for "Wednesday's child"... who wants to be "full of woe"!? Not me!

But as for Thursday's child having far to go, here I am with the weekly Thursday Heartland Update, telling you that we don't really have that far to go, only 16 Thursdays between today and the launch of Season 4 (Again, if you're counting sleeps that makes it only a scant 115 days from today). It's Thursday - time to reveal the Season 4 Premiere date!

Production, Day 7

Ah, another Thursday! That day of the week when you know Friday is just around the corner - literally one night's sleep away... but, interestingly enough, tradition-wise not a lot occurs during this weekday. Another Thursday, another Heartland update!

Amy is on the fence...

Okay... this week I'm staying clear of the puns about Thursday. I will, however, inform you - for those who do not already know this - that Thursday is named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor (Thor's Day). What's that got to do with Heartland, you ask? Nothing!

Yep, that's what we do here on the Heartland blog - entertain, inform and educate. Now that we have the "educate" out of the way let's get you up to speed on some Heartland news items. Click on through for the scoop!

Hmmmm. What does this mean?

Okay. You Heartland fans are good. REALLY good.

The choices were Jack Bartlett, Brad Borden, Scott Cardinal, Julius Ferkins and Tim Fleming.
