This is an exciting blog post because I'm going to spring some news right off the top that will make everyone extremely happy. Read on!
I'm thrilled to report that the 6th Season of Heartland will again have eighteen (18 - count 'em!) full episodes, the same as the last 4 seasons. Now the date the premiere episode - Episode 601, the title of which is "Running Against the Wind" - will air across Canada on CBC Television has not yet been decided, so we can't officially begin our countdown yet, but knowing that once again there will be 18 episodes is a pretty good announcement for me to be able to make, dontcha think?
So as for the premiere date and --I don't know if I have ever written this before-- as soon as I know YOU will know! ;)
Back to the present day, now that we are down to 5 teams left battling for the Stanley Cup, Sundays are going to open up a little more, meaning this Sunday everyone across Canada should be able to watch the repeat airing of Episode 405 - "Where the Truth Lies." This was a really popular episode among Heartland fans, and it's the episode which won guest star Alberta Watson a Gemini Award as "Crazy" Sarah Craven, the hermit who crosses paths with more than one regular character from the series. Until the premiere of Season 6 is set we're going to have to fill our time with things to do and watching a classic episode of Heartland on Sunday evening is not a bad thing, is it?
Talking about Alberta Watson as Sarah Craven, she (both the actress and the character) is the answer to the 6th trivia question I posted on Monday. Some of you nailed them all and some of you had a little trouble with some of the questions. Good! That's how it should be!
So then, here are the answers -
1) Prior to being cast on Heartland, Amber Marshall was best known for her portrayal of Elizabeth Smart in the television movie, The Elizabeth Smart Story.
2) Michelle Morgan plays Samantha Louise Fleming on Heartland.
3) If I'd hinted that "A Beachcombers Christmas" had to do with a hockey game, that might have made it easier to guess that the two regular cast members from Heartland to appear in both were two guys who can handle themselves well on skates: Shaun Johnston and Gabriel Hogan.
4) Heartland has been licensed to air in 118 countries around the world. Don't believe any other numbers you may hear or read, 'cause this is straight from the horse's mouth! (In this case, the 'horse' is the international sales agent in charge of selling Heartland around the globe, not my horse Bloggy.)
5) It takes 15 days on set (that's 3 weeks of workdays) to shoot TWO 1-hour episodes of Heartland. If you want to take the math further, allowing that 15 minutes of each hour is used by the broadcaster for commercials and promos, that means each episode is actually 45 minutes long. 2 x 45 = 90 minutes divided by 15 days means on average there are 6 minutes of used footage shot in one day!
6) As I mentioned above: Alberta Watson played Sarah Craven.
7) This was slightly tricky, since when the pilot was filmed Jessica Amlee was not yet cast as Mallory, but scenes with her were shot when episodes 102 and 103 were filmed and inserted into the pilot.
So, regular actors to appear in both the pilot and in Season 5 - Amber Marshall (Amy), Shaun Johnston (Jack), Michelle Morgan (Lou), Graham Wardle (Ty), Nathaniel Arcand (Scott), Chris Potter (Tim) and Jessica Amlee (Mallory). That is not Soraya who is Amy's friend in the pilot, and Ashley did not appear in Season 5. So how many of you got that one?
I take it by your comments you enjoyed the first puzzle, so expect more goodies each "Time Killer Monday." Watch for something in 4 days time!
A few weeks ago I ran a photo of Amy from the pilot and from each of the 5 seasons (Amy through the Ages) and it was so popular I repeated the process in following weeks with Ty (Ty through Time) and with Mallory (The Months of Mallory). Today it's a quick look through the years with Lou (with the "Lou through Life" alliteration title courtesy of Heartland Fan Alexa P on Facebook. Nice one Alexa!) Anyway, I hope you enjoy seeing her from each of the six years that Heartland filmed its first five seasons!
Anyway, that's a lot of information for one post. I was going to answer some questions, but instead I'll answer a pile of them next week. Running Against the Wind... That doesn't sound too good! Hopefully, there's not link with Amy-Ty's situation, but I pretty sure that both are related.
On the other side, I'm very happy to know that there will be 18 episodes! And they start filming on Monday! It's very real: we'll have a sixth season.

In season five, Heartland finally got a dog, Lobo.
But in Season 1 episode 2, there's a scene with Amy sitting on the front porch at Heartland with a big dog in her lap. So Heartland DID use to have a dog, right?? What happened to him? Or was a dog just used for that scene but he wasn't really a "character" if that makes any sense...

Do you know when they are going to air season 3 in Arizona,USA and where we can get the other seasons that you have in Canada for the USA? Here's another tidbit...for those really tricky edits--like the opening with the horses charging thru--those edits are TIME CONSUMING! Sometimes it's 2 hrs of editing for every second of footage you see on tv.
Editors have to be super patient, just like to work knee deep in film and do super repetitive work day in and day out.
Patience because to get the edit just so takes time and then you have to find the right take, then edit that in. And even though the film itself is different every day the work is the same. Without great editors there wouldn't be a Heartland!

Hi BW. Great post today:) I'm really excited about season 6 and the 18 new episodes it will bring. The title Running against the wind- makes me speculate about what will happen. I sure hope Ty or Amy don't run away from what they both know they should do... Get married.
Also for the Monday "time killer puzzles" I was wondering if you would be able to post some pictures that you know where shot on the inside set or outside set, and see if we can guess which set was used:) I find myself scrutinizing past episodes to see if i can figure it out. Just a suggestion.

I've been out to the Heartland set since it's not far from home, and sometimes there's horses in the fields. Are these horses ones that Heartland uses in its filming or are they owned by the individual who owns the property?
There's been talk about where the Heartland set is located, as well as different scenes such as the plane crash .. i'm just wondering where the dude ranch is located, and also Jack's old cabin that we've seen a few times? Are they close to the main Heartland set or are they out closer to High River like Maggie's Diner? Obviously you can't give exact locations but if you can give us an idea?!

It's a shame Australian television haven't captilised on the Heartland TV series. Luckily there are other providers helping us with the missing connection to all the other seasons that didn't air on Aussie TV or made it to DVD.

Michelle Morgan is stunningly beautiful. I hope the writers give her a chance this year to portray Lou as less of a ditzy drama-queen and more of a thoughtful and soulful woman that she no doubt is in real life. That would be appropriate for Lou as she gets older and more mature as a character, and I see those more down-to-earth qualities in her as a quite natural evolution/progression of Lou on the show. Give Michelle a chance to use more of her acting skills to portray more depth in Lou.

Heartland is a truly wonderful show ^^ ... I really love it even though i have only just begun watching it... I have a quick [hopefully] question though... I live in the USA, and I don't have the channel that Heartland is on. Also, the libraries, stores, and itunes don't have from season 2-4... youtube has becoming increasingly harder to find the episodes on... or at least harder to find them in english... is there any advice you have about figuring out how to see the other episodes?

Forgot to reiterate one more tip for the writers/directors this season, as several folks have noticed and mentioned in the past about Season 5...If Ty and Amy are in love, they need to show it more. Yes, we understand that they are both low-key as characters in their public displays of affection, but at least in scenes where they are alone, we need to see, as we did in previous seasons, more enthusiastic loving-looks/glances, hugging, kissing, and even tender hand-holding, than they showed during Season 5. I've seen more amorous smooching by my grandparents!

I heard a rumor that in season 6 ty and amy are breaking up and chase would be coming back and she'll get together with him. I was having lunch at mcdonald's and overheard two girls talking about it. I asked tem if it was true and they said they heard it from a girl whose mother is a friend of one of the writers. I hope it is true. I think amy and ty make better friends than a couple. I agree with many others that they lack passion especially on amy's side;she seems indifferent when ty kisses her half the time. Amy and chase have more chemistry in my opinion.

I had no idea, that they were showing an old episode of Heartland last night (Sun May 13 at 7 pm)! It was not in the TV Listing and not in the calendar on this website. I stumbled upon it by accident. Imagine my joy !! It was an old episode, where Mallory & Badger got to Sarah's Farm to feed chickens and end up falling down a well (?), with Badger injuring his arm in the fall. I just enjoy the scenes with Mallory & Badger soooo much. They have great chemistry with each other ! PLEASE, please bring back Badger & Mallory in Season 6 ! They could easily become the next Amy & Ty !

My Two Bits Worth My wife & I watch Heartland as much as we can and love it ,One time on Sat and Two Times on Sun.Somebody said something about bringing Chase back on the show but if that is happens then the wrighters are not looking at the blogs like they say they are.He is the only one I would like to see go.Don't start bringing Hollywood into Heartland or you will lose alot of viewers.How many people would love to see Ty and Amy go to the next level of engagement? If, as someone above said they heard a rumor about, Amy were to ditch Ty for Chase, the ratings would drop to below sea level. As sadistic as the writers have been in the past toward the Heartland audience when it comes to our favorite couple, I don't think they'd go there now. Worst case scenario is that Amy says no and they go their separate ways. Not that I think that will happen. If it did, that would be a case of self-immolation by the producers because no one would watch the show afterwards. In fact, the mood across Canada would probably be almost as bad as if the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team lost the Gold Medal game in OT to Bermuda. Perhaps the writers are sadists, but they're not masochists :>)! I'm sure they want to keep the show going for as long as possible. Maybe even beat Beachcombers?! Can you say... "Grandpa Ty."

I live in Lousisana and I got hooked on heartland season 1 &2 on netflix. I found a site shortly after and i watched season 3 &4. But now I can not find anywhere to wathcn season 5. Is there a reason that I can not watch it directly from the heartland home page? I love this show it is so family oriented. I would love to wathcn it more. Hally - I agree with you. If Amy hooked up with the most hated character Chase, it would be Heartland suicide. At least it would for my family. It will state that Amy is a lowdown dirty dog and doesn’t care about her partner at all.
