THE OFFICIAL HEARTLAND BLOG

Thursday, January 19 - A GREAT New Heartland Episode this Sunday

Episode 512

I'd warned you all that last week's episode would set the tone for things to unfold over the rest of the season. In this Sunday's new episode, "Road to Nowhere," written by Ken Craw and directed by Dean Bennett, some of those things do indeed begin to unfold. Click on though to the post!

This Sunday - January 22 - at 7:00pm (7:30pm in Newfoundland) Canada will be able to watch Heartland's Episode 512 as it premieres across the country.

In it, Jack learns that Ty is riding his bike solo to a remote lake to spread his father's ashes, so he decides to surprise Ty and join him for this meaningful road trip.

Amy is a little hurt by Ty's decision to make the trip without her and throws herself into helping Bryce, the paralyzed ex-soldier we met in episode 416, to find a new horse suitable for para-riding. And guess which horse Bryce --played by guest star Jesse Hutch-- has his eyes on?

Meanwhile, Mallory is totally conflicted when Austin tries to woo his way back into her life, using methods you are going to have to see (and hear) to believe. Guest star Wesley MacInnes returns as Austin, and his methods of getting a girl's attention are... interesting.

And Soraya has a new boyfriend that could mean big changes in her future.

Oh... and Lou discovers --much to her dismay-- that Mallory's memories of when Lou used to babysit her is frighteningly good.

There's a lot going on, and I'm going to give you a small heads up. Be aware - this episode, "Road to Nowhere" - is going to leave you hanging at the end. Hee hee hee...

But it just wouldn't be Heartland if that didn't happen a couple of times each season, no?

Lastly, tomorrow (Friday) I'm going to post a special treat here for everyone - a behind the scenes look at Heartland, following guest star Wesley MacInnes, whose musical talents are evident in this Sunday's episode. If this doesn't make you want to watch this Sunday's episode, nothing will! Watch for it!

-------------------

So our contest deadline to guess when the 100,000th fan joins us on The Official Heartland Facebook Page has past now, but boy did a lot of you enter. Seeing as how the page just crossed over 94,000, we still have a ways to go. It'll be fun seeing who wins and when the magic hundred grand mark is reached!

Looking down the road, I'll be having more puzzles and contests to keep you all busy and engaged, as the 5th Season of Heartland plays out through March. Promise!

In the meantime, enjoy this Sunday's new episode, leave a comment telling everyone what you think, and as always, check back here next Thursday for a new blog post... and don't forget about coming back tomorrow for a special behind the scenes look!

The Blog Whisperer - riding off into tonight's winter sunset. :)

I know you won't let the cat out of the bag, but I sure hope that there isn't trouble to come between Ty and Amy. I could see she was upset with him in Fool's Gold. I could also see it in the trailer for this week. They got together...broke up....and FINALLY got back together. I really enjoy the storyline much better when Ty and Amy are together. LOL...I have watched the entire 1st four season through (and all of season 5 so far...LOL), then rewatched everything except for most of the episodes when they broke up. There were a couple here and there (Ep 208 and Ep 216 for example) that I watched again...but to me....them being together is the best part. Just my opinion of course...and I will CONTINUE to excitedly watch and can't wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds. I also hope we find out soon if/when Season 6 will be picked up!!

Thanks again BW....I've been waiting for this all day. It's one of the best parts of my Thursdays (when you get the blog post up). Keep up the GREAT work!

If Ty crashes into that wolf in the CBC promo and ends up in a coma or worse, I am going to have to start seeing Lily's therapist and stop watching the show. I'm betting that the last scene of the episode cliffhanger is Ty crashing without us knowing the outcome. Could it be Blair "phasing-in" as the wolf?

Phew. I just remembered that there was a Heartland Tweet last month saying that the last day of shooting Season 5's final episode involved Ty and Amy, so I guess he's gonna be OK, at least by Episode 518, even if he crashes in 512! Ty would try to avoid hitting any animal in a crash, even to his own risk/jeopardy, but hopefully both he and the wolf are OK! And maybe there isn't even a crash and they're just trying to fake us out in the promo! Whatever the cliffhanging issue is that BW mentioned, looking at the broadcast schedule, we're going to have to wait 'til February 12th to find oot aboot in Episode 513.

Wow, another great episode in store for us all this Sunday and I can't wait. Season 5 has been AMAZING so far and I feel so bad for wanting to wish away my weekends for Sunday nights but watching Heartland with my girls is by far the BEST part of our weekends. I too, look forward to my weekly Thurs check-in on the blog for your updates which are always so good. Thank you Blog Whisperer for always being there for us fans and offering lots of Heartland extras to keep us happy during the season and our anxious wait about the fate of a season 6...oh, I pray CBC realizes what a Gem Heartland is for families and what a quality show they are endorsing :)

Maybe this is the road trip that Jack and Ty talked about taking where Jack doesn't leave him out in the middle of no where. LOL
Maybe seeing the wolf is symbolic and goes back to when Ty was in the plane crash.
I'm with the others who posted they did not want to see Amy & Ty break up again. The episodes are so much better when they work together.
I have also wondered what happened to the promise ring Ty gave Amy. Maybe he will replace it with an engagement ring.
I bet Bryce wants Alcatraz.
Talk about teasing us with the cliff hanger comment.
Looking forward to this episode as always.
BW; I enjoy your posts. They are like appetizers before the main course.

I don't remember ever being this excited about a TV Show. Dennis and I get so let down when there are re-runs as all new episodes are very exciting and we can't wait to see what happens next. Living in Calgary and knowing the area pretty well makes it all even better as we see landmarks that we know. Keep up the geat work, we even have family members living in the States watching it.

I really hope nothing happens with Ty and Amy, I love those two together! They need to stay together! They are perfect for eachother! They have been through alot and deserve to be happy with eachother!

QUESTION FOR BLOG WHISPERER:
Do you know if there will be a season 6 of Heartland?????

Hate to beat a dead horse (pardon the expression), or sound like a broken record, as this question has been asked a lot lately, but if memory serves, last year CBC had announced the go-ahead for Season 5 by the end of 2010. What's the delay this year? The ratings have been strong this season.

Jenna wrote:

Posted January 20, 2012 2:41 PM

Okay, here's my predictions and what I want to happen.
Predictions:
1)The horse that Bryce wants as his Para-Riding horse is gonna be Alcatraz. Of course once Amy's finished working with him.
2)Also. I'm not sure there is gonna be an accident, because Ty has been on a bike for quite a while and should be able to avoid that. I think the "preview makers" are just trying to get us wound up about it. And I know that even if there is, Ty's gonna be okay because, 1, Ty's one of the most LOVED characters on the show, and, 2, I know there have been scenes shot with Graham after this, so, it's all good!

What I WANT to happen:
1)Amy and Ty NOT, to fight over Ty wanting to do it by himself. (It makes sense!)
2)Jack talks to Ty about his relationship with Amy, in a GOOD way. Maybe Ty asking Jack's permission if he can take Amy's hand. (PROBABLY not gonna happen, but we can dream right?)

I'm probably totally wrong, but, we'll see what happens on Sunday!

Mags wrote:

Austin is a jerk.
Ty and Amy are awesome.
Jack is hilarious.

Mallory needs to forget about Austin and be with jake. And Ty and Amy need to stay together because they have like the best relationship ever and I love them. jack is just hilarious and Probley my favorite caractor on the show... He's just so dang funny.

End of story.

Great show. "Fool's Gold", and "Road To Nowhere" are the best episodes, by far. Graham Wardle was awesome. He made these shows seem so real, like he was really experiencing this in his own life. I hope Ty will be allright. Ty deserves to be happy, he has had so much heartache in his life. What would make him happy, for him and Amy to get married. Jack, loves Ty like a son. Hope everything works out for all of them. Love this show very much, I could watch it all day. Hope we have "Heartland" for many more seasons. Thanks to everyone involved with the making of this great show. BW, thank you for the post every Thursday.

Give Ty a break from having so much to deal with and survive. I have since the beginning felt a strong affinity with this character and like many really want things to be good for him. I was so hoping he was going to go back, after some closure and talking with Jack and move forward with Amy. Why an accident? I know drama grabs viewers, but so do those really good, everything is on the right track times. I know Heartland writers will keep it very real.(The writing on this episode and this show is outstanding - far more about real life and relationships than anything on CBC or any other network. I know from personal experince that life isn't far and just comes along and knocks you down. But I so want to see Ty get back up again and all be okay.

Exceptional acting again on Graham's part. Kudos to all on another wonderful episode.

Note: In response to Sandi: I'm glad a razor is on limited duty with the guys on this show!!!

Wondering what the real name of the lake where Ty spread his father's ashes is? In the episode, it was named Eagle Lake, but Eagle Lake is actually a prairie lake South of Strathmore, AB.

My Wife and I thought the lake setting was beautiful, and might like to visit if it's accessible to the public.

[Blog Whisperer: Let me find that out for you Brent! If I do, I'll put the answer in next week's blog post.]

Brent, I believe the lake is called Barrier Lake. Took this from Wikipedia: "Barrier Lake is a man made reservoir at the north end of Kananaskis Country in Alberta, Canada.
Highway 40 runs between the lake and Mount Baldy, on the eastern shore. It is entirely located in the Bow Valley Provincial Park."
Hope it helps! :)

As we expected, not the ending anyone wanted to see, especially with a 3 week hiatus before we find out what happened. But at least we know from past Heartland tweets that he's alive at Season 5's final episode. But please writers, no coma or paralysis. You are cruel enough as it is. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Graham has become one of Canada's (and the planet's) finest actors. And Shawn of course. If he and Graham, and these last two episodes, aren't worthy of a couple or three Gemini Awards, I don't know who/what is. And let's get the date set for Ty and Amy's wedding for Pete's sake. Their love is real, deep, and very grown-up, but the situation won't seem real to audiences much longer if they don't at least get engaged. Give us a chance to celebrate and party with them and the whole Bartlett clan and Heartland family!

In the previews did anyone else notice the reference to the ghost horse. There is always a connection with Ty and Amy and the ghosthorse. In the preview you see Amy in the Woods and the ghosthorse passes by and we hear him name screamed. I think this is the way of telling us the Amy can sense that something is wrong and that Ty needs her.

Loved this show last night. What a cliff hanger for 3 weeks away. Going to be interesting to see what people think. BW: I'm wondering if you might know the actual lake that the scenes of Jack & Ty were filmed at. Such a pretty spot & I would love to visit there when we travel to Alberta next time. Thought I'd seen most of the major lakes in Alberta but I fear I missed that one.

Hally wrote:

Just watched the promo for Episode 513, "Aftermath." I realize that Heartland is just a TV show and not real (kind of,:D)...but, with a 3 week hiatus between episodes, I think it's only fair and decent that CBC give fans some reassurance that even though Ty is "badly hurt," that he eventually makes a full recovery. Couldn't they let you, BW, give us a small hint in that regard? Thankfully, we know the crash doesn't kill him based on tweets made during filming of later episodes, but that's not enough. If I had to, I'd even be willing to see Ty and Amy break-up again in trade for knowing that Ty is going to be OK.(And as long as they got back together...permanently!) To make it simple CBC, just put out a press release this week stating that a) Ty will be fine, b) there will be a Season 6, and c) Ty and Amy will get married, no later than sometime in Season 6. Thank you!

This was definately another excellent episode. Everyone as always did an amazing job, and the actors do a great job of really pulling in their viewers.

Graham and Shaun did such an excellent job on the emotions that were expressed through their eyes to reflect the pain that each of their characters felt.

I really was happy to see that the decision was made to make certain that Ty wouldn't be alone during a most important step in his life. Yes, as others had mentioned I do enjoy the relationship that Jack and Ty have together. I like that Jack is a father figure to Ty and he is the main reason why Ty has become this amazing individual, really him and the rest of the Heartland family.

It is always good to see Amy working with the horses and it is easy to see that Amber really honestly cares about the horses that are on the show. The way that Amber cares for the horses is not acting it is the way she honestly feels about them and you can hear it in her voice.

There was a part in the show where I had laughed and that was when Mallory had sprayed Austin with the hose. I actually had expected that to happen as well.

Regarding Soraya leaving for London, it so seems that once you get used to a female character in the show they leave. I do realize that things do change and writers have other ideas. However she has been a regular on the show and it will be sad not to see her.

I have to add that I really enjoyed the view of the spot that they had referred to as; Eagle Lake in the show I thought that was definately amazing.

Here is where I would like to thank all who are involved in the show. Thank you BW for this amazing Blog and for all that you do, you truly make this site an amazing one. I would also like to again, thank all of the producers, writers, cast, crew, and absolutely everyone that has a hand in making this show that we all call Heartland. Also, a giant thank you goes to the CBC for allowing this show to be made and aired. May there be many more episodes of this true gem, this very truly amazing show.

Also, a giant thank you goes to all of the fans out there thank you for watching this amazing show that we all call; Heartland it is your loyal viewing that further encourages the continuing of this excellent show.

Finally I would like to say may absolutely eveyone have a truly amazing and safe week. May you all feel loves comfort and may it keep you all safe and warm.

That was a depressing and shocking way to end the episode. I really hope ty's ok but the preview for the nest episode did not look promising. I really do not want anything to get in the way of ty and amy's relationship. Ty has really gone through a lot of bad things in his life. His relationship with his Mom and Dad then his dad dying, his stepdad, being in a airplane crash (ironic how a wolf was there at the plane crash too, and how a wolf randomly decides to walk out in the middle of a road when there are people riding motorcycles at the same time.) Cant wait to see what happens!

why does it always have ta be ty? he's gone through alotta crap in his life, and now it's the plane crash all over again!! ya know, with the wolf and being in the middle of nowhere! talk about deja vu! and now we have ta wait not 1, not 2, but 3 WEEKS for the next episode! i don't get ta see heartland on my birthday like i'd wanted to! well, that's life.

That lake where Ty spread his father's ashes looks to me like Upper Kananaskis Lake, about a two hour drive west of Calgary.

Really enjoyed the scenery in this episode! The lake was just beautiful!
I don't usually have something negative to say about Heartland, ever, but I'm feeling like this accident is a bit repetitive, Scott and Ty already crashed in the air plane! But I'm also feeling a tie between these two incidents (hence the wolf appearance).. geeze, I just want Sunday to come sooner =(

You should have one episode, just have no new visiters, just have a ranch day. A day on the ranch is very exciting. At least for me and I have been on a ranch for years. Just an idea!!!!

What an amazing episode they keep getting better and better! In this episode you really start to see all the things that ty's dad put him through when he was growing up, now ty is learning how to forgive his dad and to let him go with jack there helping him when ty was spreading his dad's ashes over eagle lake..... Where is that lake at? it's so beautiful!!!!

This was a nice episode, although i do feel this was just a lead up to the next episode. Real nice Ty/Jack moments, although I do admit I'm a little disappointed how Ty handled himself prior to Jack's guidance. Really proud of how Amy has handled herself in the face of Ty shutting her out in the face of his problems.

Personally, I'd maybe like to see a little more substance in the story's involving Lou and Mallory. All Lou now seems to do now is obsess over her baby or Mallory's babysitting. And all Mallory does is babysit or fret over boys.....maybe a little more substance from them, especially given all the drama that seems to be going on surrounding them. It's almost like they aren't even aware of the pain some of the others are going through.

As for Austin....sorry, IMO it was a bad move bringing that character in. I'm just not feeling it and he seems totally out of place on the show. Use Jake, or maybe even bring back Badger if you want the Mallory/boy storyline; at least they were familiar and were a good fit for the show. Austin just isn't IMO and totally adds nothing to the show. Nothing against Wes, I'm just not digging his character, and it has nothing to do on whether or not he's a jerk or a good guy.

Sorry, but all-in-all, a pretty good episode. Just don't be afraid to give let Lou/Mallory do a little more. Every episode doesn't need comic relief and all the comic relief doesn't need to come from the same old story from Lou and Mallory.

This show is 1 in a million & really appreciate the fact the powers that be are keeping it ago. The characters, the land,(would love 2 visit) & especially the horses.Ive never flown but a roadtrip from n.s. would be cool. As others, like 2 see Amy & Ty tie the knot. Keep up the good work as y'all seem like family.

OK... I am lost so far I've been watching heartland on Saturdays and I have only gotten to season three. so if I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about, don't worry I am positive that I do not suffer from memory loss (I don't think). And I am so glad I found this show. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who adores Ty more than me. Seems kind of impossible although I have been wrong before :) I fell in love with the books and one day while in the library, I saw this odd movie called, you guessed it, Heartland. I almost died of excitement I went home and immediately watched as much as I could. I was afraid it wasn't what I thought it was. But Hey! It was and I LOVE it!

BW, are you in contact with the writers at all? For instance, when we, the fans, give our opinions and ideas on what can happen on the show, and you like that idea, then would you maybe be able to suggest it to the writers? It would be cool if you had a say in it, because that would mean that WE also had a say in it. That is the main reason why i think Heartland is so different and unique from all the other shows. This site, all your posts make us feel like we are so much more conneceted to this show than we could be with any other!
So thank you, Blog Whisperer, and let me know if we can give you some ideas, because i have got LOTS!!!

BW a question for you... how old i Amy meant to be in the show? I remember she had her 16th birthday a little while ago, but its hard to know how much distance actually passes between episodes / seasons etc (for example in this episode Ty mentioned it was 1 month ago when Amy couldn't get near Alcatraz).
I'm just curious because a lot of people have been suggesting / hoping that Amy and Ty should get engaged, but I was thinking she was still quite young.
Love your blogs every week. Thanks!

Would the writers please stop "beating-up" on Ty, literally and figuratively! Give him a break, and I don't mean his bones. To the audience, he has the best Karma on the show, but the writers seem determined to try to crush that, again, literally and figuratively! But it won't work because they have already established Ty as such a likeable and solid person, not to mention Graham's amazing acting that brings that great Karma to life. So please, no more crashes and no more bombs thrown in his path like Wade. Cut Ty some slack and let he and Amy get on with their lives together happily. They've earned that. There are plenty of other characters now that you can create dramas for to keep the audience engaged. I think you over-estimate the audience's need to constantly be yanked around by the stories to keep watching. Why not try 4 episodes in a row sometime where everyone has interesting adventures but no crises for anyone? I think it's a challenge you could easily meet as has been shown already with many episodes, though never seemingly strung together for very long. Thanks in advance for your kind attention to this matter! I remain, yours truly, a devoted fan :D!

Wow, another great episode but now with the added attraction of some simply stunning scenery. Stand out moments for me; the surprise and pride on Jack's face when Ty admitted he was more of a father than his real dad had ever been, and Ty finally forgiving his dad and throwing the ashes into the air - so final yet so full of meaning.
Hopefully this means that Ty can now leave the past where it belongs and move on with his life, but events at the ranch seemed to say Amy was finding things much tougher, it took an awful lot of determination on Bryce’s part to make her let go of Alcatraz. Even worse was earlier when Ty wanted to go alone to spread those ashes, instead of being pleased and supportive that he was ready for such a step she barely concealed her hurt and disappointment. I guess it shows that Amy's possessiveness over the things she loves is still rearing its ugly head, a remnant of the past that unlike Ty she hasn't found a way of dealing with.

Of course it wasn't all heavy stuff, the way Mallory took down Austin's swagger with a hose was priceless, and those bonding moments between Amy and Lou where they basically talked across each other just as good, but the questions keep coming. Like, is Ty's accident a warning that being a lone wolf is a really poor choice, and is Tim ever going to be a real dad and help Amy deal with her fears?

Hey BW and hey to everyone who is involved in "Heartland"!

I thought you might be happy about a longer statement about the episode and the whole season.
I want to start with the episode called "Trust", because there the story between Amy and Alcatraz has begun and I have to say that I really fell in love with this beautiful horse! Razz played the role of Alcatraz just great and it was nice to see Amy throwing herself into helping an abused horse again.
I guess many of us fans loved this horse story, because it was totally impressive to watch how Amy was bonding with Alcatraz over a time of three episodes!

To be honest I can´t remember a more emotional episode than "Fool´s Gold". Especially the qualities of Amber, Graham and Megan are shown in it. Way to go! Ty´s feelings are just perfectly portrayed by Graham! The moment where Ty is crying next to the fireplace and the one where he says goodbye to his mum made me cry... I fell so sorry for him. So, here to Graham: That was a great episode for showing your acting qualities, well done! Those were underlined while the episode titled "Road to Nowhere": It was amazing how Graham represented Ty´s nervousness and insecurity when he told Amy about wanting to make the trip by himself. Watching Ty and Jack in this beautiful countryside was as touching as the moment when Ty spread his fathers ashes. Furthermore congratulations to Michelle and Jessica for some heartwarming and funny moments! :)
I can´t wait for the next episode which is going to be really exciting, I guess. Season 5 is my favourite because of nice storys, more grown up characters, beautiful horses and in particular because of references to the past (for example Wade, Bryce, the wolf and as it seems the "ghosthorse" in the next episode).

Two questions to you,BW:
First: Why do we have to wait so long before "Aftermath" will air?
Second: I recognized that Amber is in a band and I think all fans would appreciate it if we would have a chance to download the songs ;)

Finally thanks to the cast, producers, writers, the crew and everyone who is involved in "Heartland"! I would not know what I should do without the Heartland sundays! A big thankyou to CBC and to the reliable people who put Heartland on youtube so we from Germany are able to watch it,too.
And last but not least: Thanks to you BW for the new pieces of information every week!

Heartland. Well what can you say. The last episode was fantastic as they always are. We thought Lou was so funny. Michelle Morgan did such a great job. Shaun Johnston who plays Jack is by far one of Canada's best actors. Ty and Jack have such a special bond. It's really to bad that we have to wait 3 weeks to see the next episode. Now the big question??? Why have we not heard anything about a 6 season?? At this time last year we all knew that there was going to be another season. Come on CBC you have to be kidding us. This is one of the best shows on TV. The thought that it may not be back is unthinkable. What would Sunday nights be like without Heartland. Have you heard the old saying ... If it ain't broke don't fix it. Well don't let us fans down by not bringing back this fantastic family drama. There is nothing else like it on TV.

OK, I admit it, I'm asking for far too much "ink time" on the Heartland Blog lately :). I really appreciate the opportunity to be verbose! Some might say, obsessed! But I just wanted to take this opportunity to make an official announcement. I have been closely observing/monitoring the incredibly great/high Heartland ratings (# of viewers) this season, and I think I can safely say, with the complete confidence of a fan who has absolutely zero inside info, that THERE IS NO WAY CBC WILL NOT RE-NEW THE SERIES FOR A SEASON SIX!! They are not idiots!

but I HATE whoever decided to end this episode like this and then have us waiting for three!!! long weeks until we find out what really happened :(

As some others already said, I don´t think Ty´s gonna die, they just can´t do Heartland without him...
I really hope Mallory is gonna forget about Austin so we´ll see Jake or Badger again...
I still think Katie is by far the cutest character on Heartland (followed closely by the little kitten from burning down the house; I wonder were that went?)
I was happy for Soraya at first cuz I didn´t realize that ment she won´t be on the show anymore... I´m gonna miss her!!

The acting and writing on Heartland is of such high quality, almost to a person and episode, and so consistently, that I think, at least I know I do, sometimes take for granted how amazingly talented Amber is. She just brings it, flawlessly, time and time again.
