THE OFFICIAL HEARTLAND BLOG

Thursday, January 12 - Lily (Ty's mom) returns to Heartland.

Episode 511

This Sunday, on an all new episode of Heartland, Megan Follows returns as Ty's mother, Lily. Read on!

When we last saw Lily, she was off living in Vancouver, she had a job and was surviving bad decisions she had made in the past. These included the men she had fallen in love with - the abusive Wade, who came back to visit Ty earlier this year, and Ty's father Brad, who you may remember from his visit to Heartland in Season 2.

Both men play an important role in Lily's visit, and she has to be very careful how she tells Ty the news she has arrived in person to deliver. As keen as he is to keep mending fences with his mother, this visit is not going to be an easy one for Ty.

Meanwhile, Amy continues to work with Alcatraz and she enlists Lily's help to get the horse to trust people again. And when Lou finds herself without a babysitter, she is forced to take an important client meeting at Heartland.

Once again, Jack is Heartland's rock, and his wisdom and common sense go a long way in easing everyone's minds.

Titled "Fool's Gold," the new episode is written by Mark Haroun and directed by Dean Bennett. You won't want to miss it this Sunday when it airs across Canada on CBC Television.

Only 3 more full days to enter the Heartland 100,000 Fans contest...

So in addition to a new Heartland episode premiering, this Sunday marks the deadline for you to enter and guess when the super-popular popular Heartland Facebook Page will record its 100,000th fan.

If you haven't yet entered your guess, you can do so here -cbc.ca/heartland/contest/ - and enter to win a 15 minute ONE-ON-ONE video chat with Heartland's own Amy, Amber Marshall. Cool prize? I think so!

American Quarter Horses - Heartland's got 'em!

Late last year Amber, along with Heartland's Head Wrangler, John Scott, were interviewed by Tom Moates for America's Horse Magazine, which is a publication for members of the American Quarter Horse Association. Although they don't normally put their stories up online they have graciously agreed to do so, so fans of Heartland can read it! Thanks guys!

The article is quite in depth, and you'll learn things none of us knew. For example, I've written before that Spartan is played primarily by a horse called Stormy, but did you know his real registered name is Top Moon Cuttabar? And that the horse who plays Harley has a registered name of EJ Doc Tivio Frost?

There's that and lots more information to be read in the article in America's Horse Daily, which went up last week. I think you will enjoy it; I did! Read it here - http://americashorsedaily.com/deep-in-the-heartland/ .

So that's it for another week. Next Thursday I'll have some more information for you on the following Sunday's new episode of Heartland, but in the meantime, don't miss Ty's mom's return in three days - Sunday, January 15 at 7:00pm (7:30pm in Newfoundland). It sets the tone for what is going to follow during the rest of this 5th season of Heartland.

I'll be watching; will you?!? :)

Have a great weekend, everyone! Blog Whisperer, signing off...

P.S - and enter the contest!!!!

I can not say enough about the acting in this show. Everyone comes across so natural that it doesn't even seem like they are acting. The words are beautifully written and the selected music is just the icing on the cake. I never use to look forward to Sundays as that meant the work week would be starting soon. But now I can't wait for Sundays. The sneak peak looks amazing and once again Graham Wardle is displaying his excellant acting. Keep up the good work everyone involved with this the best show ever on TV.

I have a question. What would happen if a horse (Say Stormy, or another horse that plays a lead) was needed for filming, but them came up lame or injured?

[Blog Whisperer: That's a very good question. I'll check! I imagine that they'd find a substitute, but I don't believe it has ever happened - these horses are very well looked after. ]

I am really hoping that the writers have settled on having Ty's and Amy's relationship continue maturing. I don't think that the Heartland audience could take anymore major drama between them. It would simply be too unrealistic at this point after five years of knowing/loving/depending on each other. There are plenty of other characters and even other aspects of Ty's and Amy's lives that can continue to keep audiences involved and intrigued. Thankfully, I get the sense from this season that this is the direction the writers have decided to take.

Hello Heartland Crew!!
Id like to say that i have been a fan of this show since CBC has picked it up
- Lately in the last season, i am wondering what has happened with the cast writers and Alot of the storyline?? (just worried) i know other actors are busy and i noticed they are doing other series/sitcoms/movies etc. which can make it difficult to write for...
Mainly and I'am sure you've heard this before but why has there not been any heartland family horses included -ie:Harley/Spartan/Dexter/Copper/ValStanton(JK)
WHAT happened to SHORTY since Caleb's(was)back?
just hoping that the whole group will be working together so that season 6 7 8 9 ETC..Therefore future seasons are going to CONTINUE!?!
~ THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND TIME FOLKS ~

The Heartland series is a treasure. I am 70 years old and I have never seen such an excellent production. I am continually amazed at the authenticity of of each individual shot. They ring true. The acting is so good that sometimes I wonder why other series could not be this way. This team of people who put this production together will long be remembered for their incredibly high standards. The way horses are treated in the story line is wonderful and goes a long way toward changing attitudes toward their treatment. May Heartland continue for a long long time.

Hi Everyone. My question is: How did Shaun Johnston get the stage name "Jack Bartlett"? I have been involved in horses for over 45 years, and I had a real uncle "Jack Bartlett" who had horses, and had a riding stable in Dryden, Ontario. I moved to Alberta in 84, from Dryden, and being an old fan of "Bonanza" as I was growing up, I adore this series very much, and feel very connected to the series. I also am friends with Brenda Otto, who works on the cast, and I know Mr Scott that comes to Innisfail horse sales to get horses for the cast. (I live 2 miles north of Innisfail, on my horse ranch, neighbour to Danny Daines) Please let me know how that name was chosen. Thankyou very much!

A horse reads body language and a humans agressive core in thier face is irresponsible and terribly rude to the horse. What an amazing episode. Graham Wardle and Megan Follows shine. If Graham does not finally get nominated for a Gemini for his outstanding performances, this now in particular, it will be a huge oversite. He just captured perfectly the caldron of emotions Ty was dealing with. Wonderful work from Megan as well.

I hope the tone that this espisode was to set for the rest of the season, is still light at times with Ty not being too distant from those who love him, most importantly Amy.

Wodnerful!

Another excellent episode. Really feel everyone from the writers to all the actors have really hit their stride this season. All the actors were wonderful, especially Graham, Amber and Megan. I really enjoyed the interaction between Amy and Lily here as they both were in the same situation where they both love Ty but weren't sure how to help him.....kinda putting the Alcatraz/Ty parallel into place. They really had a nice chemistry together.

I'd personally really like to see Megan and Ian again before the season ends to kinda get a little more closure as to how the Ty/Lilly/Wade story will go. Great job again by everyone involved.:))

"That doesn't smell like cinnamon buns." One of the all-time best Heartland lines! And a great episode. Very believable writing for such difficult subjects, and even better acting. Graham and Amber just get better and better, if that's possible. It's a shock to me to see Megan Follows (Anne of Green Gables) all grown up. This show was indeed another piece of perfection. Seriously. I had honestly felt that this show hit home for me. Really.

Also, it should be noted that when one really looks each of you really do care for eachother in real life, which makes this show that much more special to watch. Really. I do know that is rare, it is not something that you see very much. That also means that it is "true" there is really "Heart" in this show that we all call Heartland. This show should truly become more popular, I really do mean this because who better to portray love then the people that really do have it in their hearts.

Each of the actors really do put a piece of themselves into their character roles and I do mean all of you. As I am referring to this episode I will mention the following; Shaun, Jessica, Amber, Michelle, & Graham. Also, Megan you really do put a piece of yourself into your character role and that was the same for; Anne of Green Gables and I am certain that you have done that for everything. You all do make this show that much more amazing to watch. Seriously.

If you would like to see more of what I had to say about this episode then I ask that you go to; Community then go to General Discussion and look at the thread; What we know about Season 5 and just so that you all know I mean every single word.

So, I would like to thank the producers, the writers, the cast, the crew, BW, and every single person that has a hand in making this show that we all call; Heartland.

I would also like to thank all of the fans out there, and keep it up because this show is one gem that should definately be cherished.

May absolutely everyone enjoy their week.

Again, thank you to absolutely everyone.

First off Graham Wardles portrayal of a deeply troubled young man crushed by grief was so real and direct that I'm sure many will have found it quite disturbing, and for a few all to painfully familiar. What made it worse was how hard Ty struggled to hold on and appear unaffected, only in the end to be undone by a memory in the shape of a piece of burnt ore, a real lump in the throat moment.
Thankfully however this episode was also about how people rise to the occasion, Lou's completely inappropriate gift of a fruit basket may have been funny but it was also oh-so-human and touching, just as in her own way was Mallories' flouncing around at being taken for granted. But stand out was when Amy realised just where here priorities lay, her tip-toe through the trailer to hold onto and comfort her guy, despite Jacks likely reaction, was spot on. All in all then an A+ episode but still leaving plenty of question unanswered - like just what is Wade up to, has he really come good - or?

Hello to my fellow Americans! I have been a diehard fan of Heartland since GMC started showing it from season 1 here in the US. But CBC has allowed the episodes to be online, so you can catch up. Even though I have almost gotten current online, (and even though I have no time for TV)..I still have my DVR set for the older shows that are airing in America! So go online to see the most current episodes since we aren't getting them right away here.

I though Graham Wardle did an excellent job of acting - such emotion and said with such conviction.

Lilly seems so unpredictable and unreliable. I do not trust her emotions or her choice to be with Wayde. She seems rather delusional.

Grateful to see Amy doing horsemanship. Such a good line " If he is going to trust us, we have to trust him." This is very true in horsemanship.

Thanks for being willing to bring to the surface, on the screen and made real that dysfunctional family life leaves so many wounds that pierce deeply, and yet the only way to freedom is through forgiveness. Wish Ty had a better family life. Yet, perhaps in some way he brings hope to young people that watch the show that are still angered and saddened by their parents' choices.

Hope Lily is redeemed and truly can be trusted.

Thanks for this magnificent show.

P.S.

,,,when will we know more about Scott's life?

The acting this week was superb, esp by Graham, I too know the heartache of being raised in abusive enviroment and being abandoned by your father, the scars run deep. Thank-you for the realism but also for the humor from Lou, this show really is something CBC should be proud of and continue making.

This show that we all call Heartland is an amazing find, it is without doubt, without question a gem that should be cherished.

I do in complete sincerity and complete honesty, thank everyone that has a hand in the making of this show including and especially the CBC.

I also ask the CBC to continue on with the making of this show as it does have an impact on its viewers, and I am quite positive that the CBC has more of a following due to the fact that this show exists. All one truly has to do is look at the amount of viewers and how it is spreading World wide in popularity.

This show is one that definately is needed, the amount of viewers to your CBC stations has increased due in part to Heartland, and also that the CBC is getting noticed more on other fronts.

My point is this show Heartland is a positive show that has positive influences on people, and many people watch this show to help them to see that there is hope in their own lives. You could also think of this show as a helping hand to those that need it, as it inspires so many things in so many people.

I would like to thank the CBC for this amazing gift Heartland that they have shared with us, and I trust that the CBC will continue to share this show with all of their loyal viewers.

May everyone at the CBC, and everyone that has a hand in making Heartland including BW have a safe, warm, loving week and weekend.

I can only repeat what so many have already said before, Kudos to Graham for his portrait of Ty in this ep. Oh yes, this brought back some painful memories of loosing my dad to a heart attack just seven months ago. Graham (and the writers) did an amazing job in letting Ty experience the shock, the breakdown and all the weird emotions you go through not really knowing yourself anymore.

Megan Follows was also amazing as Lily, I already loved her in Season 3, so I was very happy to see her back.

Oh and the twins are getting more gorgeous with every episode. I can only repeat my "Thanks" to their parents for letting them be part of the Heartland Family :)

Congrats Cast and Crew and keep up the amazing job you do :)

I've worked in farming community's in Manitoba and in Alberta and now in B.C. long stories.
Some of the best years of my life. It had opened my eyes, heart and soul. I'll never forget those people in my life. when your a strugling young man it was hard to ask for help the people in the community always helped out no mater what it was. I learned values that tought me life leasons that i live by to this day.
honesty, hard work and compassion are some. There will always be apart of the praries in my heart.
I belive if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. What Ty needs to do is take the life by the horns. Ty ride the bull, on tv.
Don't take life for granted. thanks for the time.

I came across this show on accident on Netflix. After watching the one and a half seasons they had rights to I went thru almost a withdrawal. I finished the season and a half in 2-3 days. Being in the US we're not privied to the newest episodes so I got a little creative and found the episodes on You Tube. Now, I'll admit I have a very busy schedule but every night from 11pm-330am I was on You Tube watching seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5. I just got done with Episode 11 for Season 5 last night. I hope episode 12 hits the net within a few days of airing this weekend. I'd like to say to the Cast, Producers, and Director Thank you for such a wonderful series. I'm a die hard fan and I'm eager for the future episodes. Hopefully this series stays on the air for many seasons to come; I'm one fan who will be eagerly following all future episodes. Thank you again for you hard work. Jason.

well i'm finished season 4. I'm trying to find season 5. the cbc player doesn't seem to want to play. It shows all the episodes, but the black box where it should be playing isn't. I wish I knew alot more about horeses. All I know is stock cars. I was always a gearhead, I sould have paid more attention to the animals. In the end, i've come to realliesed that at the end of season 4 that I had married Amy! Amy remind's me of my wife, but not as moody. Ty keep the chin up and nose to the grind, with determination.
