UPDATE: I did it! I managed to get "A Heartland Christmas" up here on the website as of TODAY! Obviously they were just happy to get me to shut up!
Hi everyone! So, as you know this Sunday there is no new episode of Heartland on CBC... instead, you get to watch "A Heartland Christmas," a standalone 2-hour feature that will run from 8:00pm to 10:00pm on CBC Television across Canada. Click on through to the blog post find out WAY more and see some new pics!
Because of this TV event, I decided to find a different way to drive home the point of the extra-specialness of this Sunday:
(With ENORMOUS apologies to J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, who wrote "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," you can sing the following words to that same well-known tune)
**clears throat**
Ohhhhhhhhhhh...
You better watch out ♩♫

===============
Ahem! Okay, okay, hold your applause... perhaps some of that doesn't quite scan, but hey - I'm a Blog Whisperer, not a songwriter! Plus, be glad you didn't hear me actually sing it!
All right, let's get back to normal. I know while some of you have been patiently (and some IMpatiently) waiting for "A Heartland Christmas," knowing it is going to rock, there may be some skeptics out there... so for you non believers, I wish to remind you (not unlike the Ghost of Christmas Past!) of when I first told you about the movie, in a February 25th post called "It's beginning to look a lot like... Christmas?"
Here is the link to that post. Refresh your memory!
I didn't even have photos from the movie back then, but I do now. Take a look at the following:
Does this not look like a fun Christmas movie?
Back then, on February 25, 2010 at 4:03pm, Holly (How's THAT for a Christmasy name?) posted:
omg!! I'm so happy they are making a Heartland movie!!!! I can't wait till it comes out haha even though I know its still far away I will be looking forward to the premiere of this movie :) Thanks so much for making a Christmas Heartland movie. I'm sure it will be wonderful.
For Holly and for all of you who have been looking forward to the December 12 premiere - you will not be disappointed. "A Heartland Christmas," written by Heather Conkie and directed by Dean Bennett, is sure to be a perennial holiday treat you will be able to watch next year and the year after and so on and so forth!
For a bit more information on "A Heartland Christmas" you can go to its official page and read a bit about it, if you haven't already! There's some hints of the plot for you to chew on, the preview to watch and of course an awesome contest where you could win one of two signed screenplays from "A Heartland Christmas," PLUS a full size Heartland poster autographed by Amber Marshall. PLUS the complete DVD sets of Seasons 1 & 2.
Do you want some other ways to kill some time while you wait (tick... tick... tick...) for Sunday night? How about reading this article by Eric Volmers of the Calgary Herald? Eric had an exclusive set visit during filming and had a chance to interview guest star Nicholas Campbell, pictured in the third photo above. Eric has also seen a copy of "A Heartland Christmas," so this is a review as well as an interview piece. Plus, the caption under the first photo makes me laugh out loud every time I read it.
http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/Christmas+comes+Heartland/3939492/story.html
And visit AOL's TV Squad article. They caught up to Amber, Graham and Nicholas in Toronto recently and the conversation about "A Heartland Christmas" was revealing and actually pretty funny.
http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/12/06/heartland-christmas-special-interview/
Watch for other articles in the next 3 days appearing in newspapers across Canada and remember - those of you who want to finish the dishes after dinner on Sunday - you have an extra hour because "A Heartland Christmas" starts an hour later than a regular Heartland episode, at 8:00pm!
One last word for everyone who may be unsure of what a standalone television movie is. Everything within the story of the movie is self contained. Because there is lots of snow on the ground, you might think it was the first Christmas after Lou and Peter were married, and you would not necessarily be wrong. But none of the friction or plot lines that you have seen so far during Season 4 appear in "A Heartland Christmas." It is just a good story well told, of horse rescue, fun and redemption, featuring the regular cast of Heartland and some special guests.
I do not often give my Blog Whisperer guarantee, but I have no problem doing that right here and now - I absolutely guarantee you are going to love "A Heartland Christmas."
Please come back and let everyone know what you thought of it!
Sunday night at 8:00pm... Enjoy!

We're REALLY, REALLY, REALLY getting sick & tired of the Mallory character. If this keeps up the writers are going to ruin the show!
Who needs a whiney/obnoxious teenager? If we want teenage angst - we can watch any other "soap opera"!
What drew us to this GREAT show was the scenery & action! And, of course, the great characters (except Mallory).

Oh, you really better "watch out" if that ever happens. :P LOL. I can just hear Simon Cowell right now...
Besides, for BW and TC to collaborate would mean that BW would have to either come out of her secret lair, or I'd have to wear a blindfold on the way to and from the secret lair.
And then there's the whole issue of whether or not our voices blend. There's a reason some people are only song 'writers' and not song 'singers'.

I'm not a huge Christmas movie fan. They usually follow the same pattern: a dysfunctional family bonds through shared memories and the *yawn* giving of gifts.
So a round of applause to Heartland because, though it featured dysfunctional families, shared memories, and the giving of gifts, it was not the typical Christmas movie. And I definitely didn't yawn while watching it.
I think, aside from the awesome acting and plot lines, my favorite aspect of the movie was that it evaded the usual materialism surrounding Christmas. Instead, we were presented with people who valued their friends and family more than any sparkling present they could find under the tree.
My second favorite part of the movie was, oddly enough, the Lou and Mallory dynamic. It was plausible, funny, touching, and totally dynamic. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to pop an inflatable snowman. To see Lou do it for me was very... therapeutic. And to see the two get closer despite themselves was downright touching.
Great job, to all those who participated in making this movie a reality. Christmas past was sad without the Heartland movie, Christmas present was great with it, and I can't wait to see those of Christmas future!

I watch a "Heartland Christmas" yesterday and it was awesome! I'm going to watch it again with my mom next week! Are you going to find out how many people viewed the movie? It would be nice to find out. I really hope it got good ratings. Merry Christmas BW!

Was the horse rescue on A Heartland Christmas based on the rescue of the horses near McBride BC in Dec 2008? It seemed very close to what happened there.

A good Christmas special. A feel-Good ending is what Heartland does best. Nicholas Campbell was a nice addition; always a professional. I have watched every episode of Heartland and this one fit right in. At least the show is consistent, if a little hokey.

I enjoyed the Christmas movie, especially Caleb's and Ashley's roles, they have such an authentic chemistry between them. As for Amy and Ty, and Lou and Peter, they just don't see to have a natural spark. Again I just don't understand why the writers don't include Caleb and Ashley more in the storyline, they could have helped in the rescue since Caleb is the "Heartland ranch hand". KERRY JAMES IS AN AMAZING ACTOR.

Overall I did really enjoy the movie. I did feel at times, however, that some scenes seemed to staged or awkward in a way. I definitley feel that an opportuntiy was missed with the birth of the foal at the end; it would have been great for Ty (a wanabee vet) and Amy to birth it.
I think I love heartland so much that I have high standards for it.
The humor with the snowman and Tim and Jack, as always, was right on.

I really enjoyed A Heartland Christmas, I might already love it ;)
Tim was so sweet. This is exactly like I wish to see him for the last three and a half years. More insight, talking about his feelings and his past. It made me smile to see him with Joanna. I know it is a stand-alone movie but I think the writers should really consider a re-appearance of this special woman. I think compared to Janice she might be able to help Tim cope with the "missing" ten years.
So if I could make a Christmas wish, it would be the return of Joanna :))
Thanks to all the cast and crew for this little gem :)

I truly enjoyed this movie- full of life lessons about compassion, forgiveness and love that extends to other creatures in need of help, hope and kindness. Also, this movie really brought home that love and compassion can transform even the coldest of hearts. Strange, how we waste so much of life on either guilt, fear or sadness. Life is meant to be lived one breath at a time.
I so enjoyed the opening scene of Ty and Amy driving a horse- drawn sleigh. One of my dreams is to find a Christmas tree in the mountains where I can then hitch it to a sleigh or rope it to my horse. The backdrop of the Rocky Mountains was so exquisite.
I am grateful that the character of Ty is showing such integrity and leadership - in caring for horses as well as communicating with others. He really exemplifies a person that is honest with himself and others.
I do wish that you could have Jack and Tim do less arguing and more cooperation. As a side note, the behavior of Lou in this movie was a bit much. She was so ungrounded and a bit unrealistic. I wish she and Mallory were more loving to one another - Lou more supportive and Mallory more thankful. I cannot imagine talking to another such as Lou talks to Mallory and Mallory to Lou, especially when they are frustrated.
The scenes with Caleb and Ashley were really touching.
I am indeed so grateful for Heartland. There is nothing like this in the States. I have watched the various episodes again and again. I have been inspired by Heartland to make a Heartland-like ranch that focuses on anorexia prevention through horsemanship. I am now in the process of forming a team of practitioners to get this idea into motion. I have been given an opportunity to have a trial running phase at a horse ranch near the town where I live. So, keep your fingers crossed. This would have never happened without the inspiration of Heartland.
Thanks in abundance for what you have created. I look forward to many more episodes.
