THE OFFICIAL HEARTLAND BLOG

Thursday, September 2 - Season Premiere this month! Yessssssssssssss!

Amber Marshall

Well, faithful Heartland fans, let's start right off the top with the weekly countdown. Yesterday we all flipped our calendars from August to September and there it was, staring us in our collective faces - Sunday, September 26 - the broadcast date for the Season 4 premiere of Heartland! How awesome is that? Click though to the blog post for an update!

Sooooo... we have exactly three and a half weeks, or 24 days, until Canadians across the country can tune in at 7:00pm (7:30 in Newfoundland) to watch the first of 18 new episodes!

It's all quiet on the production front, as everyone is relaxing from filming this week.

Well, not everyone! Amber Marshall was on the popular Baltimore, Maryland radio show, "Below the Belt," on WMBC, talking about Heartland, which premieres in the United States in two weeks time. If you would like to hear Amber's interview, the show can be heard by going to belowthebeltshow.com and scrolling down to the audio player for the September 1st show. Amber's thirteen minute interview begins just after the 41 minute mark.

Not to be outdone, Graham Wardle was in Seattle yesterday morning, appearing on Seattle's New Day North West on KING 5. King's sister station KONG is going to be playing Heartland later this month and so Graham flew down to appear as a guest on the morning show. You can watch his appearance - the first for any Heartland cast member on U.S. television, here - http://www.king5.com/new-day-northwest/nmeet-M-101949313.html

I don't know who came up with the "Canadian cutie" headline, but I think Graham is going to have to get used to it, don't you? ;-)

Today Graham is in San Diego and Los Angeles, appearing on other stations that are going to be premiering Heartland, and Amber is flying down to Philadelphia to publicize the show there.

But not everyone is busy in the United States!

Shaun Johnston, who never says no when asked to lace up his skates and play hockey, will suit up on the evening of Wednesday, September 8, with musicians George Canyon (aka Mallory's dad on Heartland), Aaron Pritchett and Gord Bamford in a charity hockey game against former NHL players such as Dave Semenko, Dave Manson and Craig Simpson.

Called the "Pics and Sticks Charity Hockey Classic in aid of Everybody Gets to Play", which promotes physical activity for underprivileged youth and adults, the puck will be dropping at the Leduc Recreation Centre. For those of you who don't know where Leduc is, the town is 33 kilometers south of Edmonton, and the event is helping kick off the Canadian Country Music Awards week that Edmonton is hosting this year.

If you want to see Grampa Jack in action on the ice rink, and contribute to a worthy cause, go to www.leduc.ca and click on the CCMA Charity Hockey Classic link. Full details can be found there.

AND... while next week everyone is back in Calgary filming, in 8 days - on Saturday September 11 - Amber Marshall, Graham Wardle, Shaun Johnston, Michelle Morgan and Jessica Amlee will all be at the Spruce Meadows Masters and you can see them there. Last week I didn't have the times (sorry Horselvr98!) - but I have them now!

So, at Spruce Meadows the show jumping starts in the International Ring at 10:15am with the Parade of Nations commencing 1:15pm. The Heartland cast will be in the parade and then will appear on stage at the Equi-plex, where, between 2:00PM and 4:00PM they will autograph postcards for fans who show up. If you are in the Calgary area here is your chance to see a lot of the main cast together!

Other than that, congratulations to Mark Haroun, whose script for the episode "The Haunting of Hanley Barn" has been nominated for a Gemini Award. The winners are announced in November; I'll let you know what happens.

Other than that, you seem to be liking what you are seeing on this site, and that's a good thing! You're going to be liking it even more once you see some of the goodies that will be going up soon. Goodies like clips, contests and of course more information on Heartland than you can get anywhere else on the planet, so don't touch that URL! :-)

Also, you may have noticed we have a new Twitter feed. Head on over to Twitter.com/HeartlandOnCBC and click "Follow" (or join Twitter and then click follow if you aren't on Twitter already!) I will be tweeting regularly throughout the season, and some of my spies on set will be contributing as well, so you are going to get all sorts of little tidbits (140 characters worth at a time) of Heartland information there and nowhere else! Plus, if we get enough followers by September 26th, I think I might just "live tweet" the premiere, and you all can join in in a huge online Heartland conversation! So what are you waiting for!

And now for some of your questions -

1) Sam asks, I was wondering which of the actors actually know how to ride. I know Amber does (or at least that's what I've heard) and I was wondering if any of the others did too.

Amber wasn't quite born on a horse, but you might think she was! She is a superb rider, as is Shaun who has saddled up for years. Jessica has also ridden horses for years and is comfortable on them as well and Nathaniel Arcand rides like the wind. Michelle, Graham, Kerry and Chris had all been on horses before being cast in Heartland, but now after three plus years of working with the series' wranglers they are getting really good. Yee-Haw!

2) canadiangurl asks, ...how long will the Christmas movie be, not including commercials?

Heartland is called a one hour drama, but there are close to 15 minutes of commercials - needed to pay the bills! - and so the 2-hour Heartland Movie, now entitled "A Heartland Christmas," will be 90 minutes in length, but will play over a 2-hour time slot in December.

3) Jesse91 asks, You've mentioned (like a million years ago) that Heartland will be airing in Free TV in Germany, and I keep looking for it, but there isn't anything. SO: Is it still going to air in Free TV??And if yes, when will it start airing?

Gee how time flies! I was sure it was only 300,000 years ago! :) Seriously, I've contacted Heartland's international distributor to get an update regarding which stations are playing Heartland in Europe and the rest of the world. When I get that information I'll post it here. And within the next 2 weeks I will post every U.S. channel that will be playing Heartland, along with the day and times. Note that Val has replied (Thanks, Val!) that she received an email from Vox telling her that it will air at the end of 2010.

4) canadiangurl also asks, I am really into pictures and cameras (and for sure taking pictures) so i was wondering BW would know with what sort of camera that picture of Amy/Amber was taken??.....

Andrew Bako, Heartland's trusty stills photographer, uses a top of the line Canon digital camera. So if you have a Canon you must be on the right path.

5) Phoebs asks, I have to say that I really LOVE this new site!! It looks great!!! I'm so looking forward to the Premiere coming out in less than a month....aahhhh!!! How am I going to live????

One day at a time, Phoebs, one day at a time...

6) HorseLady92 asks, I was just wondering where I can get the Heartland DVD's. I just found out that they are available, but I can't find them anywhere!! Help!!

If you are in Canada they are available in many retail outlets - HMV, Costco, Walmart - just to name a few. Or you can save yourself a trip and order Seasons 1 & 2 by clicking on the "Heartland Boutique" link on the main page of this very site!

7) Michelle asks, hey, I was wondering if Jack is ever going to let Ty sleep in the house??? xD

To tell you the truth, I've been wondering about that myself. We'll have to see what the new episodes bring!

8) Free Spirit painfully asks, Where is tom eirikson's Q&A? Im in agony!!!! lol

The cast and crew are off this week, so I will get Tom's answers up next week. Take two headache tablets to relieve your pain and come back in a few days! :)

Well I can tell by reading all your comments the fever pitch is starting build, both for the new website and for the upcoming season. I checked to see how many Thursdays I have been giving you your weekly updates and I just realized that I have posted something new for you every single Thursday for well over a year now, with the exception of Christmas Eve. So I guess this has become a part of our Heartland routine. I'm enjoying the posting - I hope you are enjoying the reading!

Speaking of routine: Have a great weekend, and until next week,

Tick... tick... tick...

Great post again, and i cant wait for the the season premier. Some people may not think, but september is bringing lots of good stuff!

Too bad I don't live in the Calgary area. Will the Heartland cast be visiting BC sometime? I know they have visited BC before.

The morning show with Graham Wardle was awesome! I liked how it showed you a blast from the past with a clip from the first season.

Hello BW, I look forward to reading your post every week and you never disappoint whether it be new information or awesome pictures (full credit to the photographers on set.) It's my first time asking a question so hopefully it will be answered because it is something my mom and I have been wondering for a while. What happened to Soraya's mom, Maggie. She has been talked about in episodea but hasn't appeared in a while. Will she be returning in season 4?

[Blog Whisperer: Thanks 3blindmice! Yes, I'm totally aware of the random performance issues with the forum, and they're working on it. In the meantime, just keep doing what you're doing - refreshing seems to do the trick (until they get it ironed out!) ]

Thank you for the website and excellent blogs. We've been buying the season DVDs here south of the border in western NY and have regular family nights to watch the episodes. So we can't wait for season 3 to come out on DVD. I have two questions:

Will Heartland every be released on Blue-ray? It would great to see the landscape in full HD.

Also, can you tell us if any of the cast members will be at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair this year?

Thanks again.

There's still hope for him though, he says he doesn't like it too much but he still sat and watched it with me and he's kept the characters straight so i think he secretly likes it ;)

Can't wait for season Four, I cam across the show when searching for the US TV show Wildfire which only made it a couple of season, The heartland show has filled the gap and is great. and K-Catt I'm sure you are right about your boyfriend as I probably would say the same thing if i were him. The show is a little chick flick but defiantly a great show. Glad to hear of heartland coming to the US and will be setting the time slot aside, that is once they let the info out, what channels will play it and so forth. Hopefully one of those channels will be played on the Comcast minnesota provider.

So I have a question and a comment. I have watched Graham's video interview via the link above and he mentioned he had a girlfriend, I then listened to Amber's radio interview also via the link above and she mentions she has a boyfriend, so I was wondering if life has followed art and they are actually seeing each other? If not then their respective partners are very lucky indeed. Anyone have any clues on this?? BW??

Now my comment, from both interviews they appeared to be asked what they were going to do once they make it big after the show has aired in the US. As far as I am concerned, and I believe also millions of fans worldwide, they have already made it big and the US is just so slow to catch up, come on they are filming season 4 and the show has yet to air in the US when it is already huge around the world as can be seen from the comments from Australia, Germany, UK and other countries. There that’s my rant.

Please continue to post other video interviews, etc from the cast.

Hi BW,

I'm sorry, but I'm completly desesperated!! I was watching Heartland on Boomerang, as always. Tomorrow, September 6, will air the last episode of the second season. Ok, very well. So, I was looking for more information on Google, the answer to my tipical question "When will air the third season here in Brazil?". Then, I found a lot of sites saying that in September will be new Heartland episodes on Boomerang. What this mean??? Will they broadcast the third season NOW?????????? I would be SOOOOOOOO happy!!! I have no one to ask if this information is true, only you, so, please, IS THAT TRUE???????

Thank you very much for the atention and the excellent posts.

Thanks!

I hope the show doesn’t go all Hollywood once it takes off in the US. I love this show the way it is. It’s fresh and original and clean. I can watch it with my family and not have to “explain” anything. It almost makes me sad that it is crossing over into the US because I fear that they will want to “modernize” it into all the other trash they put on TV. Please don’t sell out!!! Stay true to the shows roots. Don’t let the glitz and glam of Hollywood taint such a beautiful family production. PLEASE, PLEASE.

@Candice, Heartland has aired on ABC2 in Australia at 6:30pm on Saturday nights since I think about April/May 2008 when season 1 first aired, season 2 in 2009 and season 3 in 2010. Season 3 finished about 3 weeks ago on the 21st August and season 1 and 2 have been repeated at 12:00 midnight Tuesday nights with the last episode of season 2 airing this Tuesday just gone the 7th September.
Season 1 is currently available from the ABC Shop website here http://shop.abc.net.au/ .

We can only assume that we will have to wait until early 2011 before we see season 4 aired, I have tried finding out if season 3 will be repeated before season 4 or when we may see the Christmas movie but have had no luck from the ABC.
The other option we should have had was to use iView on the ABC website to view past shows but for some reason Heartland is not available to view, I have asked the ABC but am still waiting for an answer.

[Blog Whisperer: Thanks megawatt! You rock!]

[Blog Whisperer: Hi Free Spirit! No, there's no hiatus, it's just that not all the actors are on set all the time, and if they aren't shooting for a couple of days and happen to live in Vancouver, it's only a short flight to be able to go home for a bit.]

[Blog Whisperer: Soon... very soon... best to think of it as gone now, 'cause it could disappear without warning!]

Bonjour ,

J'aimerais savoir si le coffret des saisons complètes 1 et 2 incluent la version traduite en français ?

J'ai beau chercher je ne trouve rien ...

P. Québec Canada

Blog Whisperer: Bonjour Annie! Le DVD vendus au Canada viennent avec une option de sous-titres français.
