THE OFFICIAL HEARTLAND BLOG

The next installment of the Heartland Q&A - Chris Potter

Ask Chris

Tomorrow I'll be posting Greta's answers, but now it's time to turn your inquiring minds to... Chris Potter!

Yes, now is your chance to ask Chris a question! Click on through (and remember: if you're reading this on Facebook, you have to ask your questions on the Heartland blog, not the Facebook page!) and as always, one question only...please... :D

For three seasons now on Heartland Chris has played Tim Fleming, who has travelled the difficult road from outcast son-in-law and father to someone who now is a part of his daughters' lives. His ongoing relationship with Jack always provides hilarity and drama and Chris Potter has made the complex character that is Tim enjoyable for fans of Heartland.

Also, as most of you know, Chris directed "The Happy List", which was the last new episode of Heartland that aired a week ago last Sunday.

You have until Thursday to send in your questions, and you'll see the answers from Chris posted here next week.

Over to you, Heartland fans!

Chris, you are FANTASTIC! I think you are just perfect for Tim, and i saw the interview where you said you aren't very well with riding horses so you have to act like you know how, and i think you do just fine! My question is: What is the set of Heartland like? I know the scenery is beautiful, and so is the house, the barn, the dude ranch.. But.. (mostly at the dude ranch) how is it all.. Like, without acting, just maybe taking a stroll, or before and after scenes, how is it just enjoying it? Hope you understand my question! :) Keep on smiling!

Continue to play a wonderful Tim and you were awsome in episode 313, Quarantine! Love you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! I thoroughly enjoy Heartland and your character is certainly a essential part of the show! "The Happy List" was a great episode, and obviously you did an excellent job directing it. My question is; Did you have previous riding experience before Heartland?

My question: What is it like directing Amber, Graham, Mallory, Jack, Lou and Peter, and the rest of the clan???

Thanks!

If you had the opportunity to change Tim, would you prefer to see him be more submissive towards Jack or would you prefer to be more dramatic in a take down with him. When you've been out casted and your trying to make a come back because after all they are your children. What do you think, do you have any control over the script of what the writers have to say, can you change something you feel doesn't feel right about it or do you just go with the flow.

I used to watch Kung fu as a kid growing up with my Dad, I think was by far the best show then. RIP Carradine, God Bless Chris Potter.

Hi, Chris!

First, I just have to say that I'm a huge fan of your acting and your music, and was thrilled to find "Heartland" and be able to watch you every week. You're doing great work as Tim (my favorite character by far) and I loved the episode you directed. It *almost* made up for not having Tim in the episode. :)

My question is: Tim has often been portrayed as arrogant and stubborn (and a bit of a jerk!) onscreen as he tries to get back into his daughters' lives. Do you think that's a true representation of him, or is he using that attitude as a kind of shield, because he's a very 'wounded' person who's gone through a lot and lost a lot in his life?

I'd love to see an arc where something sends Tim sliding back into the drug abuse of his past, and now he has to rely on his family to help him through. I know you'd do an awesome job with a meaty storyline like that.

the first time I saw you, was in "The Pacifier". Great movie by the way. I was thrilled to see you in Heartland. And I enjoy to see your character "Tim Fleming". Ok, sometimes he is a little bit...selfish. But nobody's perfect, right?! :D
However, here is my question for you: What do you prefer on set? Acting or Directing? Why? Pros and cons?

Hello Chris,
Last year i went to the Caloden Pony Club 75th Anniversary, and i met your daughter (but i can not remember her name) and i think she said that she was a member of the Caloden Pony Club. So anyway i was wondering if you were ever a member of the Caloden Pony Club too when you were young. my mother was a member of the Caloden Pony Club when she was 15 and i am now a member of the Boomer Creek Pony Club. I hope you have fun answering all these questions and filmming Heartland and by the way LOVE the show. Ohh and by the way i also say another movie that you were in. i can not remember what the movie was, but it was about a monkey that was a spy and your daughter was a big science smart girl and she was kidnapped that movie was funny. Thank you for reading my long comment.

Hi Chris,
First of all, thanks for your diverse portrayal of Tim on Heartland! In my opinion, he's very different from the all the other roles you've played before. Which aspect of portraying him do you like the most or is there anything you don't like about Tim? We've seen many different sides of him in the current season (ranging from acting like a spoiled child to a loving and sensible father). Do you like his developement and what hopes do you have for the character for the future?
Thanks a lot for answering our questions.

My question for Chris is this:

Your character has a very strained/loving/complicated relationship with his daughter's and former father-in-law--- in most episodes Tim gets into an argument with any or most of the characters on the show.
Will we be seeing a softer side of Tim as the season (or potential next season) continues? i.e. flashing back to why he left, struggling with not seeing his daughters for so long, etc..

PS- Chris, you did an excellent job on directing "the Happy List"... I think it's one ... if not my favourite episode. Keep up the great work!

Chris, thank you so much for the years of entertainment you have given us. I enjoy watching you portray Tim as I believe it is the most complicated role you have played to date. I hope to enjoy your work for many more years.

At one point though, you had considered being a professional athelete or musician even though you had a passion for acting. Do you ever wonder how things would have been had you chosen one of the careers you did not pursue, or do the charity hockey you play and your musical engagements fulfill your interest in these two areas and leave you completely content with where you are?

Thanks,

JD

Hey Chris,

I am a huge fan of heartland! I definitely love all the drama between you and jack, it is absolutely hilarious. Here are my questions:
1. Is there a specific reason you chose to audition for Heartland and how much experience did you have with horses when you auditioned?
2. Do you know when the next chance is that people could meet some of the cast (ex: Toronto Royal Winter Fair 2009)?

Thank you so much for taking this time to answer our questions

I was just wondering, what scene do you feel has taken Tim the most out of his comfort zone, if you get what I mean?

Thanks for answering questions, it means a lot!
