THE OFFICIAL HEARTLAND BLOG

Some future blog stuff, and congratulations to Tatiana!

A nice picture of Tatiana Maslany

(Almost) every Monday I've given you the opportunity to pose a question to a different Heartland actor. This has proven to be so successful that I'm going to expand this to include crew members as well! Over the next few weeks expect to be able to question some of the talented people behind the camera as well as those you see performing in front of it. Click through for more!

And speaking of "behind the camera," I get a lot of comments from people who want to know more about the production itself (beyond what they see on television) so that's something else I'm going to do here - show you more "behind the scenes" photos and explain what goes into the making of Heartland, so everyone gets a peek into what it takes to make a television series. Watch for it in the near future!

I'm also going to be getting more information on where Heartland is playing around the world and I'll update that information here whenever I find out something new. The "www" does stand for "world wide web" after all, and Heartland is now being shown and is popular in several countries, with more to come!

But that's not all!!! I other have some other bloggy treats for you coming up in the very near future, but you'll have to wait to find out what they are...

Now, as to what's going to be on CBC Television at 7:00pm this Sunday:

As most of you know, because of this weekend's Super Bowl and the following three weekends covering the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, there are going to be no new episodes of Heartland until March 7. So this Sunday will be a rerun of Episode 302 - "Little Secrets". This is the episode where Amy finds herself caught in the middle of a family crisis when she tries to help a girl and her horse recover from what appears to be a freak accident. If you missed it on TV when it first ran last October here is your chance to catch it!

And finally, congratulations to Tatiana Maslany, who has a recurring role as Kit Bailey on Heartland.

Tatiana was the only Canadian to win a prize at the recent Sundance Film Festival in the United States. She won the Special Jury Prize for Breakout Performance in World Cinema for her role in the film Grown Up Movie Star. This is a major accomplishment for Tat, for last year's winner of the same award was Carey Mulligan for her role as a young schoolgirl in An Education. Earlier this week Mulligan received an Oscar nomination for the same performance.

Tatiana also appeared on Being Erica's second season and last year she won a Gemini Award for her performance in an episode of Flashpoint.

So although some of you don't care much for Kit, don't hold it against Tatiana, who everyone loves on set. She's a really talented actress, and it's awesome to see her get recognized at Sundance!

I have always liked Kit Bailey! So glad she'll be around in future episodes. Grown Up Movie Star from the reviews is a bit of a twisted film, but nevertheless excellent. I hope it gets better distribution than some previous Canadian films. Congratulations, Tatiana!

Whooo boy!! Is there something nasty in the water at Heartland? Have they all gone insane? Are the Bartlett-Flemmings completely dysfunctional? Based on the recent episodes, the answer to these questions must be YES. For starters, the couples (A&T, L&PW, C&A) are all so freak'n mean to each other - all the time! Does the fighting and bickering ever stop? Enough. Really ENOUGH already!! Where are the positive role models for girls? Face it. Amy is self-centred and irritating not to mention a huge downer for Ty; Lou is an obsesive nut-case and it's a wonder why PW hasn't come to his senses yet and split; Ashley is "hot ash" who runs hot and cold, and more often cold; Malory is, well, completely over-the-top - more like a comic sidekick than a person; Val is a 2-dimensional control freak; and Kit is just plain sad. And don't get me started on the men-folk. Ty is a major-league brooder; Jack is, uh, Jack; Badger is a not actually in the show; and now Caleb is, what, dead? Hey, didn't we all just suffer through the "dead-or-not" thing about 2 episodes ago?

To the Heartland writers: you are in a major slump. There is nothing fun or even interesting about the show at this point. It is very negative - especially the portrayal of couples. And we are tired of characters almost dying. You are losing us. Shake it up and inject some desperately needed fun back into this show.

Jake.

Great job Tatiana! I can't wait to see what those bloggy treats are going to be! I'm also excited for the episode this Sunday "Little secrets" because even if they can't show a new episode, they could atleast show a good rerun, which it is!(I still think every episode of Heartland is fabulous though!) Love ya!

I want to say in response to a previous blog comment that the writers are continuing to impress ME!

I don't really like the character of Kit Bailey, but that means that Tatiana is doing her job very well. :) Good Job, Tatiana! :)

Congrats Tat ! Ya as Kit you quite often bug me ,but that just proves you must be a good actor to bring out peoples emotions. In other words you are
playing the part very well ! Anyhow I am starting to see the other side of Kit as well, dumped by Ty , snubbed by Amy , overlooked by Caleb , how can one come across as charming person to the fans of those 3 ? Good luck Tat !
And yes i agree a lot with Jake, cut he crap already , and get some more ,harmony in the family like there was in Quarantine.

Yeah, Whooo boy indeed!! What has happened at Heartland?? All that NEGATIVE energy - crippling every potentially positive relationship. Hey, Caleb and Ashley only just got together - finally - and they're already destroying their love. Bicker, bicker, bicker. Aaaaaaahhhhh! WHERE IS THE LOVE AT HEARTLAND?? Have you noticed that whenever Ty tries to hug Amy she puts her arms up between them -- making sure they can never get too close, physically. She treats him like an annoyed mother, certainly not a girlfriend, making sure they never get too close, emotionally. Message to Ty: Wake up and realize that Kit is a MUCH BETTER match for you. The chemistry is obviously there. Could it get worse on Heartland? Well, yes, apparently it can now that Caleb is maybe dead, just weeks after Ty and Scott were maybe dead. Time to fire the script jockey and get somebody new in the saddle. The show needs it.

Behind the scenes? Ooh, 3blindmice's favourite! Can't wait! And I'm very pleased that we get to ask the crew questions. There's 2 things I really don't like about Heartland - the credits go by too fast for you to read them, and there are no BTS. But at least the second one is being rectified! Thank you BW!

Yay for behind the scenes! Now all we need are some blooper clips... Hint hint...

On a side note, I can't agree with everything Jake is saying, but I do agree with one thing. I would like to see Amy happy and care-free for once. She seems to be getting into a bit of a rut of always being stressed and worried and upset. Lou does a lot better. While she does tend to get up-tight a lot, it doesn't feel quite as repetitive as it does with Amy. I still love the show--and I particularly loved last week's episode and can't wait to find out how Caleb is--but I think Amy needs a wider variety of emotions.

Hey! I have never posted before but am a huge fan of the show!! Started watching regularly at the beginning of Season 3 and then bought Season 1 on DVD and bought Season 2 of iTunes until I was officially caught up! I love so many things about Heartland especially how it depicts the country life since even amidst all the commercialization, that is still such a big part of Alberta!

I was wondering Blog Whisperer, if you could confirm the rumours and reports about the upcoming Heartland Christmas movie later this year? I read about Season 4 being renewed at the same place before it was announced here and I REALLY want to know if this is true or not and MORE DETAILS etc... Thanks so much! :)

Blog Whisperer: It`s not shown on the February calendar, but CBC is still showing reruns of Heartland season 2 at 1 PM EST. on Fridays. I`m in Ontario, but I watch it at 4PM from B.C. ......time shifting is a wonderful thing.

Jake
How can you not like the show? Sure the characters get into arguments sometimes but what normal relationship doesn't have there own shares of up and downs? its the way its supposed to be! Amy has a right to be over protective of ty on his murdercycle! i mean he almost DIED! and lou is just feeling intimidated by pws early wife but who wouldn't. her reasons are valid and i think that ash has spunk to try and prove superstitious caleb wrong! i love heartland! and Mallory? She is the most awesome actress i have ever seen..ever! i think that the show is the best thing on the air!

Ps. Great job kit. you really do a good job on the show!

tiffany wrote:

@Jake Are you kidding me? Thats the whole point! Lou, Amy, Mallory, Ashley, Val and Kit are all REAL people. With their own flaws and good qualities. That's why I love Heartland. It's one of the only shows that are actually realistic, where the people struggle with real problems, (money, friendship, asnimals et cetera) not JUST relationships, where people dont always come in first and MOST importantly, where the characters reuse clothing. I think theyre a lot better role models than the other flakes on tv who r perfect, or atleast claim to be.

Heartlands a great show, and VERY interesting. Maybe its your interests that have changed. Maybe instead of dissing a show that is absolutely fine YOU should start watching another show and leave people alone to do their job - which they are doing just fine at.

Anyway....

Congrats to Tatiana, I never liked Kit but thats just cuz im an amy and ty fan. But, i have to admit she does an amazing job and totally deserved it!

I like the whole idea with the "behind the scenes." I'd like to learn about what happens behind the set and not just on it. I think that will be awesome. Thanks Blog Whisperer!!!!!

Hey

I just have one question, it is not for Tatiana, what ever happened to Amy's promise ring from Ty? Is it included in any of the up-coming episodes?

Nikki wrote:

You know what Jake, if you don't like heartland, now this is very simple.... DON'T WATCH IT!!!! So if you have a problem with it quit bashing it get on with your sorry life, not to say your life sucks or anything and that you shouldn't be here, but if writing crap about Heartland is making you feel good, than I feel your life is pretty sad. So build a bridge and get over your problems with Heartland. And if you have such a problem with Heartland, change the dang channel when it come on. It is as easy as that!

I agree with jake, the show needs a big boost cause like its getting boring and kit is annoying get rid of her, like move her away to the artic or somthin cause amy and ty are better but they are getting annoying cause shes always so moody and depressive and it bugs me soo make her happy with ty, and for malorie move badger in!! itd be bombb.. and for lou and peter make them live happily ever after with a baby :) and keep jack the way he is, and ashley and caleb, dont kill caleb and yeah agree you cant keep pretending to kill everyone but they should just be like i dont know but like im seroius killin everyone is annoying,

First of all I would like to say Congrats to Tatiana!! I'm looking so forward to Behind the Scenes Info that you are going to start posting in the Future. I've been a Fan of the Show since it has started. I'm a born and raised Albertan, live in Calgary, but I'm still trying to figure out exactly where this is filmed with the backgrounds and small town that are in the Scenes etc.... I am thinking that it is around Canmore, Banff Area. I may wrong!!

Anyways, about Jake who is writing these comments on this Show, if you don't have anything Great to say about the show then Why Are You Even Watching it?? I think it is a fabulous acting cast and the story lines with every episode are the real things that happen in Real Life, except for the Horse scenes and the healing, but it always has you mind wondering while the show is going on, what exactly is going to happen next. So, Jake if you put any comments on this Site again, please be positive about it or just don't watch it anymore.

Looking forward to the first episode in March and Great Job to all of the Cast and everyone else that is included in filming this Great Show!!

I agree with Jake and Zoe. They might be "people" as Tiffany pointed out, but heck can't they just relax a little? Even normal people aren't that bad, and even if so, isn't Heartland supposed to be one of those shows that make you feel happy every Sunday night? These days it's just depressing. Also, why do we have to have the same "is he dead" suspense? It was good the first couple of times but now it's getting old because THEY NEVER DIE. If you had killed off a few characters at least THAT would have spiced up the show.

Not a good thing Heartland, not a good thing. You bore me now.

I'm getting increasingly disappointed in you.

Heartland

I realy love Heartland and the actors and actrices do a great job and the show is amazing, but there needs to be more about horses! I mean isn't that what its supposed to be about? OK a little drama is ok but seriously. All the reationships are constantly put under stress and it makes me uneasy every week about whats going to happen. Isn't Amy supposed to heal horses I'd like to see more horses!? And one question: What happened to Lisa?

Hey Blog Whipserer,

thanks, like always, for this special things.
I have a question caused by the Second Season DVDs.
I've read that the DVD set will be released on April 6th and it will contain 5 discs.
Is that true? Only in Canada and the USA, but I really want to know.
I'm from Germany and I have to wait more than just this 2 month, but it would be great if you would tell me that it's true!
And that there will be a DVD set in Germany, too. :D But... that would be more than enough! ;)

Just aswer this little question, please: Is it true, that this DVD set will be released on April 6th?
Thanks for your attention ;)
Keep up your amazing work!
Linda (:

Hey Blog Whisperer,

I'm so glad that you'll write about Heartland in another countries! And this is it because I'm brazilian, and I just watched the first season, and I don't understand english enough to watch the other episodes on youtube. So, please, say that will be the second season here!!! Maybe then I will understand more about what is really happening on the show, and not just think what is happening reading the comments of the canadian, north american and european fans...
Please, have some good news to me!!! (And to the anothers latin american fans, of course. And, believe me, there is a lot of them).

And congratulations to all the cast and crew, I think you are completly awesome!

I am amazed that some people think Jake and Zoe don't like the show. They obviously like the show and are posting because they are concerned about the direction the show has taken. I am equally amazed that some people think any critique of the show should not be posted at all.

Yes, the show is suppose to be about real people, but the real people in my life don't fight all the time. And those that do quickly go their separate ways. I completely agree with Key that the range of emotions shown by Amy's character has become extremely narrow. Amy is the central character in the series and she should inspire us! Instead, she has become consistently depressing and a real downer. Ty is walking on eggshells with her. I had thought that Caleb and Ashley's relationship was going to be really fun - a fresh break from all the past false starts between them. Well, I was wrong. The fun in their relationship lasted for about 30 seconds. It has quickly become a dull grind to watch.

So yes, this show has its fans and I'm one of them. But something has to change or there will be fewer and fewer fans with each passing episode.
