Sunday, March 25 - Heartland's Fifth Season Finale!

An image from Heartland episode 518

Two words, my friends - SEASON FINALE!!!!!! Many of you have been champing at the bit (I do love my horse metaphors) for this Sunday so the final pieces of the season can fall into place, and fall into place they will, as Heartland's 5th fantastic season comes to an end. Read on!

Amy's ability to work with horses was amplified by a chance encounter with Renard Dupuis (guest star Raoul Trijillo) who was working with his beautiful white horses in the woods in the Season 5 Premiere of Heartland. Now in the Season Finale, Renard once again plays a role in Amy deciding what she's going to do with her life, when a mystery horse shows up at Heartland.

The horse arrives with a message from Renard and, as the episode description says, it'll Amy and Ty down a path that will alter their lives.

Meanwhile, Tim and Miranda realize they really have to take their son's wishes into consideration, so they decide to spend some quality time together... with surprising results.

And Peter drives Lou absolutely out of her mind when he takes over the plans for their second anniversary celebration. It's not like Lou has to be in control of things like this, is it? ;) I think you'll be impressed when you see what our Mr. Morris has come up with - I know I would be!

And Jack? The rock of Heartland is going to do something out of character, but you'll totally be cheering him on with the rest of us.

And then --if you saw the preview-- there's that little matter of Ty holding a ring box of some sort... but I'm sure nobody's really all that interested in that storyline, so I won't spend any time on it here...

It's the stuff great season finales are made of, and in my humble opinion, it's the best season finale yet. This one is called "Candles in the Wind," and was written by Heather Conkie, Heartland's amazing Executive Producer and Showrunner (That means Head Writer, folks!) and expertly directed by the man who has directed more episodes of Heartland than anyone else - Dean Bennett.

I'm betting you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen. Not that I have to tell you, but it will air this Sunday, March 25 at 7:00pm across Canada (Except for all of you in Newfoundland where as always it airs at 7:30pm).

There is always a bittersweet moment (and this is the 4th time I have been a part of it on Heartland) when the last episode of a season is served up. The season finale is the last piece of the puzzle of this season which unfolded before us over the past few months and now the season is complete, and many questions will have been answered. And this is a good thing.

But now, after Sunday we face weeks of no new episode of Heartland and that is always difficult to deal with, especially when you get used to new episodes of this series as much as I (and I'm sure a lot of you) have.

A small consolation I have to offer is that I will continue to do what I did last year, keeping an array of games, puzzles, trivia and news related to Heartland here on a weekly basis, and CONTESTS! Remember when I announced the Season 5 DVD release this June? Well I am TOTALLY going to be giving away DVD sets over the coming weeks. And maybe more...

So let's all keep the cycle going, shall we? But first - enjoy "Candles in the Wind" this Sunday and let everyone here know what you thought of it.

Until next Thursday (what, you thought I was going somewhere?) Blog Whisperer out!

Well I am excited to see the next new show, but sorry that it is the season finale, we have a problem here with new shows then old shows, then back to new shows, and it is sad that the last few weeks we have been getting the new shows again, and now the end has come. What date is planned for the next season and I do hope there is a next season. My granddaughter used to watch this show, because she loves horses and then I started to watch and now I look forward to it every week, and I am sure going to miss it.

I don't think I've ever been more excited to find out what happens on a Heartland episode!!!!!! I mean Ty and Amy, MARRIED, this is big! No, this is huge!! I just can't help but have the feeling that the directors wanted to save this for the end of the series, and that kind of breaks my heart

I can't wait!! Does anyone know why the website won't let me watch the episodes? I live in MA, so I don't get to watch the episodes as they air. Someone was posting the episodes to YouTube for all of us faithful watchers but they stopped 2 weeks ago. So now I am two episodes behind. Does anyone have any ideas? Or is my best bet to push my fiance for a movie to Canada. Hehe!! Any suggestions would be appreciated!! In having withdrawals and so sad I will miss the finale.

Methinks the fact that you're still going to be posting weekly after today is another definitive confirmation that we're getting a Season 6!! Yay!! OK, now I want to be the first to start asking you every week: When will we know if there's going to be a Season 7 ?!!(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

WHAT!!!! You DON'T wanna expand on the Ty story line!?!?!?!?!?! BW you sure are cruel!

ANYWAY! Let's forget about BW's cruelness, and go back to the episode...
Good to see that Shane's back, hate to say it, but I missed Amy's little brother!
Hmmm... What is Ty looking at in the second picture? Possibly this "Mystery" horse?
I wonder if this "show" Amy puts on is at the beginning of the episode, or towards the end. Hopefully at the beginning!
Also! Good to know Tim is getting back on his feet and spending some more quality time with Shane and his family.
And now, to the MOST IMPORTANT PART! *Cough* *Cough* Ty's proposal to Amy is one I've been dreaming up in my mind for five years now. All this pre-happening will now come to reality. And, hopefully it will end on a good note this time! 'Cause in past seasons, we all know that these two haven't been in good terms in previous season finales. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that this year will be different! In the preview, when Ty asked for permission from Jack, he had a VERY calculating look on his face, so, hope all goes well! But if anyone would understand, and feed out good advice, it would be Jack. Good luck Ty!
Well, that's it for now. I hope against hope this isn't the last new episode blog post I'm reading... All I can say is: "PLEASE CBC PLEASE!!!!!!"
Anyway, have a nice weekend everyone, and I'll be back on Sunday night!
Jenna

I can't wait until June when I will be able to watch it, the blog does help tie me over for awhile, well that and seasons 1-4.(I live in the US so...) Heartland is truly a great show and I seriously hope it's back for Season 6. And BW thanks for always knowing how to keep me wondering...of course I would like to know about the ringbox storyline...but I guess it can wait! :)

We love this show. It's our favorite!! However, we don't get to watch season 5 in the States, yet. We've bought all the other seasons, plus the Christmas movie on DVD. We're not sure how we're going to wait until June to see season 5. We might have withdrawals before then. We want to see Ty & Amy get married. If they don't get married, I can tell you, we will stop watching. This couple has been through enough. And they deserve to finally be HAPPILY married. And we, their fans, deserve to see them happily married. It's very real & possible for a couple to be happily married, while still having all of life's problems (that don't include infidelity) thrown at them. We don't want to see anymore people & circumstances getting in the way of their love/commitment to each other anymore. We hope Heartland goes on for many more seasons & that you will give all of Ty & Amy fans what we want---not only a wedding, but to see them having a happy, committed married life together.

That's one of the first things I noticed at the end and actually replayed the words--season finale! I'm hoping this means what I think it does!

Ooohhhhhh Raoul Truillo--horse advocate! Heartland did good getting him! He seemed so natural in the first episode. I LOVED him and I hope he has many more appearances if we get more seasons!

This show has so any wonderful messages about the plight of horses. I hope they do more stories and GENTLY show how and why it's so wrong to send horses to slaughter. How horses can be rehomed, retrained and be a wonderful mount and friend to the right person.

Another wonderful sight about horses is playingwithlukas.org. Lukas is the smartest horse in the world. You can find him on fb. And another is Beasley thewonderhorse at fb.

Seriously BW, "And then --if you saw the preview-- there's that little matter of Ty holding a ring box of some sort... but I'm sure nobody's really all that interested in that storyline, so I won't spend any time on it here..." you are such a tease.

This sounds like a great episode. Can't wait to see it. Also can't wait to buy Season 5 so I can watch all the episodes over and over along with season 1-4. This will get me by until season 6 (positive thinking here).

Thank you BW for feeding the many Heartland fans worldwide with information on our favorite show. Will look forward to your future posts.

brenda borrow wrote:

Why would the BW keep the posts coming if it had been definitely decided not to do a Season 6. I am going to take this as a positive sign that there will be one.

I wonder if Amy decides to go on the road with the horse show and Ty doesn't want her to give up her dream so he decides not to propose yet. He can't go with her as he has University. Maybe the cliff hanger will be how their relationship withstands the separation yet again like at the end of season 3 when Ty when on the road.

Let's hope Tim and Miranda get together. I think the 2 actors have great chemistry.

As for Jack I think maybe at the end of season 5 he finally decides to go on that trip to France with Lisa.

Can't wait till Sunday.

Thanks BW. That last pic is very impressive. Interested in if that's really Amber or someone who just looks alot like her. If it is her, I'm sure steps had to be taken to make sure ya'lls leading lady was safe.:)) As for it being the best season finale yet.....well, Season 2 was a pretty good season finale and a fan favorite, so if this is gonna top that one it will have it's work cut out. But if you guys play the cards right with Ty's ring he's staring at and Amy's reaction to what's in that ring box, it may not just be the best season finale...it may be the most loved episode of all. We'll just have to wait and see.:))

Sorry, Wendy.

BW is correct.

"Champing at the bit (or mistakenly as chomping at the bit or chafing at the bit) refers to a tendency of some horses, when impatient or nervous, and especially if being held back by their riders, to chew on the bit, often salivating excessively. This behavior is sometimes accompanied by head-tossing or pawing at the ground. Because this behavior was most often seen by the general public in horses who were anxious to begin a horse race in the days before the invention of the starting gate, the term has become popular in everyday speech to refer to a person who is anxious to get started or to do something. Because some impatient horses, when held back, would also occasionally rear, a related phrase, "raring to go," is also derived from observations of equine behavior."

(From Wiki, which, in this case *is* correct!)

In a lot of comments, people said that they were thinking that it won't be a fairytail ending. But I can't convince myself of it. In my head, the only possibility is that Amy says yes...

I passed the week to think about it. I imagine a lot of scenarios of the proposal, of Amy's reaction, of the others characters' reaction... And Mallory who's not there... She HAS to come back for this moment!

Whish sunday comes faster, but, at the same time, that it never comes. Do you realize that it could be the last episode of Heartland ever!?

Once again we have enjoyed the current series but will be sad when this episode ends.
This has to be the best family show on television over the past years and must continue for many more. Please do not let the "Network Moguls" get involved where they cancel this good " Canadian"
show as they have done to other Canadian in the past. Good television shows are hard to find.
Keep on " HORSING AROUND"

Words cannot explain how talented everyone is on Heartland...right from the writers, directors and actors. Amazing show coming out of our Canada. I dread waiting until Sept. for the continuing saga of Jack's family and community. Best show on TV in our opinion. Keep the episodes coming forever. Pleeezz!

I can't wait to see the season finale, it sounds awesome . . . this week can't go fast enough until Sunday!
Heartland is the only TV show that I watch each episode of. It's the BEST Tv show I've ever seen and I hope that there will be more seasons to come.
Regarding whether or not there will be another season . . . I sure hope so. If the production of another season of Heartland is dependent on whether or not CBC wants to continue airing Heartland then I had an idea. If Heartland can not continue on CBC, could Heartland be aired on another channel like CTV, Global, or something like that?
If that doesn't work, could you post something on the Heartland website asking fans to email CBC and tell CBC why they like Heartland so much and that CBC should keep showing Heartland on CBC.
Never underestimate the power of persuasion! :)

Miranda and Tim have surprising results? Like maybe she's pregnant!
Jack does something uncharacteristic? He buys a French wardrobe so he can go off to Paris and become a boulevardier.
Peter buys Lou a whole set of China with the pattern illustrating their house as it was and will be again. He also plants a field of cotton for her to work while he's away to keep her occupied and not so lonely.
Amy decides to join Renard's show and Ty goes off to vet school. Each realizes they love each other enough to allow them to do what they are meant to do. These are once in a life time opportunities that test their truthfulness to themselves and each other.
As for the bittersweet ending, Mrs. Bell passes and leaves Ty the money for school. But 'Candles' suggest two people passing. I checked at IMDB and
Jessica Aimlee is listed in the cast but that's probably just routine. We'll see!

Well, we still don't have any word on season 6, but I think it is reasonably safe to bet there will be a season 6. After all, it is the "SEASON FINALE" not the series finale. I can absolutely not imagine Heartland not continuing. Executives and corporations often make stupid and thoughtless decisions, but if CBC and the makers of Heartland do not see that this show continues, it will be beyond stupidity and thoughtlessness. Well, enough of said.

I've never done this fully before, only made small predictions/guesses, but here goes: I'm going to be positive about this seasons final episode and lay to rest my anxieties about something coming between Ty and Amy getting engaged. I'm not sure how the mystery horse and Renard will be a catalyst for Ty's proposal, but based on BW comments they will. I think it will be something to do with Amy realizing fully her gifts and maybe going away for a bit to perform in Renard's show. There will be a bit of drama behind Ty dealing with his feelings and the nerves associated with proposing, and asking for Jack's permission. Jack and Amy will both say yes to Ty. I think Jack will be the one to travel far. Maybe Ty's commitment to Amy will motivate him to follow through on one to Lisa - going to France. Tim and Miranda will start falling in love and the seeds will be layed for her coming to Hudson, or possibly Tim's ranch. Peter will out do himself with the aniversay celebration - the candles in the wind "paper lanterns". The episode will end with a big celebration and love and commitment front and centre.

I hope all these predictions are correct or close to it. If so, I think many viewers will be thrilled.

So looking forward to Sunday!

I am going to play devils advocate, I think that Ty will never get to ask Amy to marry him, at least not this season...I think Amy goes on the road, and Ty is stuck holding the ring until next season...I think that the phrase "alter their lives forever" is very strong one, and I think that it may end badly or at the very least their relationship will be once again put in a holding pattern, while Amy searches for her true calling..
I dont want it to be that way, but if Season Finales has taught us anything in this series.....

I hope the CBC does renew heartland for a sixth season. I would miss it so terribly. Event though I live in the US, I always look forward when I head to my library on my computer on their internet and watch heartland. It always makes my week and makes me laugh all the times. I enjoy taking the DVDs out of my library.
I have been reading something about CBC is having money trouble or ratings trouble. That might be stalling the renew of heartland. I really wish heartland would come back for another season! Otherwise, the story ends on a sour bitter note that's unfinished. It's like a book series that just suddenly halts.

I can attest, may husband and I love this show... the actors infuse values, integrity and morale character. Now, at 7 years old, my granddaughter loves the show and really relates with Amy's ability to understand the horses. I believe with a little more publicity on major networks, this would reach a far greater realm. Thank you cast for your wonderful portrayal of these marvelous characters! Not to mention, the added benefit of the beautiful scenery we get to visit every week! God Bless and continue on with this wonderful show! Thanks.

Hello HL fans. I am new to this site. Just joined this week. I live in NE Ohio USA. I came across Heartland by accident late last year when my local tv station was just finishing up season 2. I was immediately addicted to HL. After doing some research I found out that they were on season 5 in Canada. I found seasons 1-4 DVD's on line and ordered them. I spent all free time in Feb and March watching seasons 1-4 twice. This show is so awesome. I would like to disicuss things that happend in season 4 with other HL fans. So next Fri, Sat or Sun, [after all you lucky Canadians get to watch season 5's finale and discuss it] I would like to post some views I had on season 4 and hear your views and opinions. Just want to know where in the website I should post. Thank you.

Mallory will come back to see Jake, Jack / Lisa (hey, we don't see her anymore !!), Ty to vet school, Amy on road... The choice to get married not for the right reason, and the seperate ways...

The back-stories of the episode should be Jake giving Mallory a promise ring, Caleb and Ashley reconciling and re-marrying, Soraya and her boyfriend getting engaged, and Blair and Chase going to prison.

I think if there is going to be a season 6 it needs to focus on the horses more like in season 1 because i find it gets borning episode after episode with there being no horses and if there is horses its only for like 3 seconds. I use to be excited about heartland now its like whatever if theres nothing else on then i'll watch it. all I know is that there going to be losing alot of viewers

Best Season finale ever BW???? Yeah right. I really hope the writers get a good look at the fan reaction and the disappointment many are feeling from what i feel was one of the worst Season finales. Terrible ending. All the teasing and all the anticipation....and we get nothing.

What should have been a great, romantic moment was ruined. Even if the show continues and he does ask; the moment has faded given she's found the ring. It takes away all the magic and romance out of the moment. But my guess is they'll have Amy put it back and pretend she didn't see it so the writers can have another season of teasing and leading us along. Bad thing is, she didn't even look too happy and made comments about not being tied down......I almost feel like they are in a worse place now than they were last year; and that's bad.

Now I know what a dog feels like being led around by a collar and I'm sorry to feel that way. Gotta say, I not the fan I was this morning when I woke up. Ya'll blew this one.:((

BW,we were thinking:
Last year we knew by christmas that there was going to be a season 5. This year it's been 3 months since christmas and we still don't know! Wouldn't they need to start filming (if there was going to be another season) by now? I'm sure all the other fans feel the same. Why don't we know yet if there is going to be a season 6? Is there anything anyone can do to make sure a season 6 will happen?

Please get back to us! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!

Thanks,
Hannah and Miriam

P.S. I wish that Ty acctually proposed to Amy and she didn't find the ring. I know that that cannot be changed now, so we were really hoping that there will be a season 6 so that maybe he can acctually have a chance to propose, because then you are just leaving us to infer..... and that is a very painful and unwanted process.

P.S.S (this is it, we promise :p) By the way Miriam does not have t.v. so this makes it even more painful and unwanted.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am having mixed emotions right now... Okay so what Peter did for Lou was great! I love it! It was so romantic and just so country. LOVED IT! I love that Tim and Miranda might get together again. It would be so great for him to have a family. I just can't believe that Ty didn't ask Amy. I loved how he asked Jake if it would be okay if he did. I mean its so great! I was expecting him to ask her at the end of the episode because she wasn't going to go do the tour and that would give me the opportunity. Right? I am so mad that he didn't ask her right then and there, it would have been so romantic and casual. I also can't beleieve that Amy found the ring, I just wonder what she was thinking...I just wish that he would have asked her. And the ending of the episode was really good, I liked it alot, witht the lanterns in the sky and Ty outside, it really had a good effect. You sence what he was feeling and how the mood really was. It just would have been so much better if he would've asked her....haha. I hope that there will be a season 6 because it would suck if it ended here and we wouldn't know if Jack enjoyed himself in Paris...we wouldn't see Lou and Peters baby grow up....we wouldn't see how things would work out with Malary...we wouldn't see how things would work out between Miranda and Tim....AND we wuoldn't know if Ty actually asked Amy to marry him, or what really happened with that. I just hope that next fall all be able to sit down on Sunday's and watch a brand new season of my favourite series, HEARTLAND! Please tell me that there will be a season six.... Thank you heartland for making another wonderful season of heartland! I can't wait for the season to come out on DVD!!!! Wonderful job. I hope there will be a season 6!!!!!!!

I've seen these comments too I'm rather annoyed that the writers thought this would be good many of us were hoping for the perfect finale this hasnt been done just more waiting and guessing their relationship can't we have something we want ha ha everyone was dying to have them engaged this hasn't happened disappointed is the word and now we have to wait another season maybe to find out what happens not fair at all cliffhanger much? A rather frustrating one hmmm sorry just saddened by this as a huge ty and Amy fan I feel completely cheated out of a perfect storyline give the fans what they want and by the look of Facebook I'm not the only one who feels this way I'd say 95% feel it too ... Oh well I'm not sure the writers will be happy about the fan reaction ..

Amy Amy Amy...did you have to say "lets not tie each other down" WHAT????? AHHHHH ty i will marry you any day and not because you are cute but because your a great guy with a good heart! ehhhh Amy screwed up! I feel so bad for Ty.
Im hoping for another season because i am so not happy with this ending. The problem now is if there is another season, amy will act all weird because she knows about the ring and maybe she doesnt want to get married sp shell push him away because shes not ready :( poor ty hes been through so much and now this! ehh im so heartbroken!

I missed caleb and mallory.

I knew Jack was going to go away! but he better be back!

Lou and Peter! are the best right now! the only people i am happy with :)

we all know ty and amy are meant to be together so i wish they got engaged!

i loved Lou and Jack at the table when they were doing "what you know may not be what i know...." speach that was hilarious!

Anyways, im going to lose sleep now due to the show!!

but i am glad Amy turned down the job, though i thought that was a sign that she wanted to be with Ty. Amy is not very romantic. She should have said i want to be here with you at the end, instead of....maybe! ehh

What??? A couple of hours now since the episode ended and I am finally relatively calm. I can honestly say I have never been as invested in a show or its characters (Ty and Amy; even more so Ty). With such a cliff hanger - not a simple one -I believe it is undoubtable Heartland will be back for a 6th season in September. My worry is will Ty and Amy have more problems being together because Ty backed away from proposing, though it was motivated by wanting to give Amy what he thinks she wants and is best for her. I wish he would have just asserted his needs/wants like when he moved out in the first episode of the season. The first episode of season 6 needs to be them getting engaged, or this whole take a few steps forward and a few more back is going to get too tiresome and frustrating. This said, I can't imagine not having Heartland and its evolving characters to watch.

I first started watching Heartland in 2010, a few months after a ruptured brain aneurysm, left my disabled and unable to return to work and my normal activities. I am now dealing with chronic pain and some other issues and still very limited in what I can do. Heartland has been a God send so to speak, it has given me a beautiful compeling place to escape to and another type of life to think about. I hope some day to be able to spend time with horses again as I once did when I was young.

Heartland is a wonderful show! Everyone involved with it should be tremedously proud of what they have given, and I believe will continue to give, so many people who watch.

Chara

I could not believe the ending; it ended on a cliffhanger!!! Amy saw the ring and it seemed that Ty wasn't quite ready to propose to Amy!!! Ugh we don't know if Ty proposes now!!!

When it ends on a cliffhanger then that definitely means theres going to be a next season.

This episode was amazing, how Amy got to perform with the horses like that. I wasn't really sure if she would take the offer but I thought she might of.

Ty asked Jack if he could marry Amy and went on about how life is just to short to be wasted. This made Jack realize he should go see Lisa in France. So he finally goes there!!!

I can't wait to get season 5 on dvd!!!!!!!!

Blog Whisperer
I am a HUGE Heartland fan!!!! ...with some questions!

After watching the season finale, I was wondering, what did you mean by your post on Feb 16th, - "A character on Heartland will be leaving the series for good, and when I write "for good," I mean the last time this person is seen will be face down in a field... DEAD."?

Was this a metaphor? We didn't see anyone face down in a field and no one died.

Also, could you tell us if there was additional footage shot during the season finale that might be used in the beginning of season 6?

Oh, and it would be really cool if Amber did an interview about working with the liberty horses for the show in the finale.

[Blog Whisperer: Hi Emilie! The person "face down in a field, dead" was Mr Hanley. No metaphor!]

Great episode. Jack going to Paris, wonderful, so many things can happen there, he can come back loving it or hating it. Heck he even may come back after catching Lisa with her ex LOL. Tim and Miranda, so glad they are working things out , and they have all next season to fall in love. What Peter did for Lou was beautiful. A very appropriate name for the show. And Amy and TY, ok well maybe the show wasn't so great. What were the writers thinking to end it like that. It in my opinion it was very disappointing. I mean I really wasn't expecting a proposal in this episode anyways because there was too much given away in the preview but I was left very unsatisfied. I know that the writers are hoping for hugh ratings for the next season premiere, and thats one way of doing it, but if they soon don't do something more with that storyline then I think ratings will drop. How may times now have we seen Ty and Amy go through something besides happiness, I lost count. It just seems to me that this episode was not finished. Lets hope the writers find the rest of the script by the time September comes. In saying all of that I love Heartland and its going to be a long summer LOL. Loved the episode., disappointed with the ending.

That was such an amazing episode. The writers, directors, everyone did such a fantastic job putting this episode together - and the whole of season 5. I couldn't image a better season finale. It leaves room for another season, but if that doesn't happen, it allows fans to imagine the best.
But please, please, if there is a season 6, I know it will be set well after this episode, and so Amy and Ty will either be engaged... or not. If they are though, the writers have to provide the fans with a look at what happened. A flashback to when they got engaged. We have waited so long for a lovely Amy/Ty moment and there has been a few this season but not a really memorable one, like the end of season 2 when they finally got together. If there is a season 6 and the writers have them engaged, they really have to give us this!
Here's hoping there is a season 6 and that my suggestion will be taken into consideration!! =)

Tonights finalle was so hard to take. Love was in the air for everyone. Was really hoping Ty would have proposed to Amy. The way the script was written leaves me so stressed. I am so scared TY thinks that Amy wont accept the marriage proposal in the next season just because of her comment of not being tied down, thus deciding not to pop the question. The next few months are going to be hell for me. I live to watch Heartland every Sunday. It is the best TV show I have seen in a very long time. Keep writing scripts and seasons. You dont want to disappoint all your fans.

Oh Amy and Ty please do get engaged/married!!!! This was a great episode!....Someone above said there was going to be an episode in April, is this true?? If it is does this mean there won't be a season 6 and they are doing that so people aren't left wondering for the rest of their life if Amy and Ty get engaged? As much as I would love to have a new episode as early as April, I would much rather have a season 6 !!!! PLEASE tell us soon rather or not theres a season 6 !!!

Really disappointed. The writers attempts at being clever, aren't. I'm hoping there's a Season 6 of course, but I won't watch the show again until I know from the blog that Ty and Amy are married. At this rate, that may be Season 10. The never-ending drama the writers are giving us with Ty and Amy simply no longer fits the characters. Just too unrealistic for the people they are/have become. Superb acting as always.

A comment that perfectly sums up my feelings:

I keep going back to it, but again I just think the writers kind of ruined the moment of the situation for me. Maybe it's just the romantic in me, but given all the time and energy and history that has been put into the Ty/Amy storyline; I simply would like for any engagement to be done in a romantic, magical way.....I feel it's importance to the show deserves that. And for me, no matter how it may happen now, what they did here will just lessen it's impact.

I mentioned before that if the show returns, they have opened Pandora's box with this subject(Ty asked Jack, Lou knows, and Amy found the ring) so they can't go back from that. Any attempt to go back from that and try to 'pretend' that didn't happen in an effort to prolong it will be met with dissatisfaction IMO. So I think it's something that will have to be dealt with and eventually they will have to move forward with this.....but in my mind I can't come up with any scenario the writers can pull out of their hat that leads to them actually being engaged that will be as romantic or as magical as if it had happened last night on the couch in front of that fire. My knowledge that Ty postponed his plans because of Amy's words and the fact that Amy has already seen the ring and knows of what Ty was planning on doing just takes away from the moment should it happen in the future. One of the best moments of any engagement is the look on one's face when they actually first see the ring and realize what is happening. That's one thing I was looking forward to the most if this ever happened, the look on Amy's face when Ty first presented her the ring. No matter if they get engaged later or not.....that moment was taken away from us and they can't get it back; and sorry, but I'm not at all happy about that.

Haven't seen the final episode yet but from these comments I'm not sure I want to. Surely the writers wouldn't mess up that badly. It seems that fans have had enough. We will see.

Amy has a big mouth the only reason why Ty didn't propose to her is cause in the last part she says to him dont let anything tie us down. Grrrrrrrrrr now Ty is second guessing himself.

They will be together. There is alot of stories for all the characters to be told. So in my heart I just know that they will have Season 6. Again to the Heartland Cast @ Crew. You are awesome to work so hard to bring us the Heartland Fans the Greatest Show on T.v. ever. All the Best...

I hope she say yes!!!

they can end the series with a Wedding next season I'd be happy with that :)

WHOA NELLIE everybody! Think about it: Ty and Amy are alone in the house, everyone else is gone, and Amy says things to convince herself that she is okay with Ty maybe going to vet school elsewhere. She finds the ring, and do you think she will keep quiet about it when Ty returns inside? Does she ever keep quiet about what is on her mind? They have all night to talk about their future and their commitment. Of course we all wanted it wrapped up neatly, but all the characters are headed in a positive direction so we shouldn't complain. It's not the Heartland way to give us all the details, and maybe that's why we're so invested in the story. The possibility of an engagement is already known by Lou and Jack, and Ty promised he would also talk to Tim so everything can't happen in just one episode. I've watched it twice, and that's how I feel now. Looking ahead to good news from CBC.

Oh wow, Heartland Cast and Crew, what a finale! I have to say from the Tim Fan`s POV it was so great. If I just look back at this character two eps ago I am so happy about the way this storyline developed. Thanks to the writers for giving him another chance. The scenes with Mitranda and Shane were so wonderful to watch and maybe if there is a Season 6 we will see more of this little family. I think Maxim Roy and Sam Duke are a great addition and for the last time this season Kudos to Chris for his portrait of Tim and sharing his amazing talent with all of us :D

I loved Jack finally going to France and I also loved Peter and Lou and their anniversary celebration.

Amy working with the horses. just brilliant.

I think I will leave the Ty and Amy analysis to the Fans of this couple ;)

So Big Thank You to all the Cast and Crew for another highly entertaining season and one special Thank You to our beloved BW for keeping us up to date throughout 18 episodes. You`re the best!

Now all we can do is keep our fingers crossed for a Season 6!

Hey, I thought this season was very well written. We saw a little bit of everything. It is sad the keleb and Ashley didnt get back together or jake and Mallory and I hope she will be back next season. Amy with the horses was probably the most beautiful thing I've seen ever! Although of course the ending of the season was not what i thought it was going to be, personally I dont think Amy should've found the ring but at the same time it leaves a good cliffhanger for next season. I do hope amy says yes because after all they have been through together they seem like they belong with eachother. I also though Jack was courageous travelling all the way to Paris it really shows he cares about lisa and it was romantic. The only thing i would've changed is how many horse scenes there were. I know things change but I do like this show to see some of the amazing horsemanship skills it show and the beautiful horses. Overall the season was well done, the actors are amazing and have such talent! and the writers did a very good job of staying true to the show. Well done and congrats for making it to season six! I can't wait! :)

BW, I am anxious to see your reaction to all the comments from the many Heartland fans on the final episode. Are they what you and the writers expected?

Now I know what was meant by the tweet: "Filming the last scene of #Heartland Season 5 shortly. We're all grinning as we imagine the look on fans' faces when this airs next year (!)" That was pretty cruel! And how can this become a favorite over Season 2 finale?

The episode was really great, especially the work with the horses. But the ending, ugh. How could the writers do that to Ty?

Do the actors have input in the script? Are Ty and Amy losing some of their ability to portray chemistry on screen? I hope not because they are a great couple.

I sure hope a decision and announcement is made real soon on Season 6. It will make a lot of fans feel better.

[Blog Whisperer: I love reading ALL the comments - and the writers and producers do too. I did mean what I said about it being my favourite season finale (and definitely in my top five episodes ever, as well) but that's just me as a fan speaking. But like I said, I love reading everyone's opinions! ]

All the cast and crew, the photography, the music, the performance with horses, the images at the Dude Ranch, all of this was awesome.
Even the cliffhanger was great, I know that most of fan was expecting the engagement, the behavior of Ty and Amy was credible, and the circumstances or misunderstandings made this not possible.
I want to thank for the amazing job through the season, and highlight the amazing work of Maxime Roy (Miranda), Sam Duke (Shane) and Tattiawna Jones (Kelly).
Writers, such great writers of Heartland, which allowed us to enjoy the best show on television that I have had the opportunity to see over 50 years of life, surely they will return to tell us, during the season 6, this wonderful story about a family.

Okay, I've tried to get over the disappointment of the ending and move on to other things. But, it just keeps bothering me that the writers would choose leave the shows fans with this ending. In a world of uncertianty and constant frustrations, we need things to feel good about and safe in investing our emotions. There would have been plenty to keep views hooked to stay tuned for a next season if Ty and Amy had got engaged. I just don't understand and like what the writers have done. I wonder what the cast thinks - Graham and Amy in particular. Lets face it there story line is the focal relationship of the show.

I have to add here again how impressed I was with the acting. There script might not have delievered but the actors certianly did, especially Shaun and Michelle, and the actress playing Miranda. Graham as Ty was once again superb. I think Graham as Ty has been given consitently the most difficult and complex emotions to convey and story lines to present and he consistenly delievers.

Still and will always love the show, but I emain disheartened by the last episode this season.

After all the characters Tye and Amy have been through, I do hope that Amy says yes to marriage in the fall. It was amazing how Amy worked with the horses. It brought back memories of my life when I once had horses and how I use to crawl into my pony's stall and sleep with him. Hope Heartland will be around for a long time. Amy finding the ring ruins the romantic feeling now though, cause she knows that he had the intention of proposing and so it won't be as exciting when he actually proposes :'( On a good note, the ending leaves us with a pretty good idea that there will be a season 6 -hopefully it comes sooner than later! Hopefully, in the next season (lets hope :p) amy will do more work with horses that need help, rather than the more showy stuff she has been doing recently-she fits the character much better as a horse healer than a performer. Now that I have calm down a little bit (it's about time; 24h passed since I watch the episode!), I changed my mind... Actually, no, but I'm not angry anymore. I had all the day, very long and boring classes, so I had time to think. Yesturday, I was mad because Ty didn't ask Amy AND she found the ring. In my head, it was one of the worst scenorio that could happen and, with the face of Amy when she saw the ring... it was unbearable. I had a very tough night.

But I tought all day and I'm not angry anymore to the writers. I think I have to let them go; they never let me down since now so I leave them the benefit of doubt... if there's a 6th season! I'm sure they will find a way to give us the romantic moment that we're all waiting for (I'm thinking about something where Amy decides to propose Ty too...that would be sweet.).

I don't think the crew as to mishandle the comments of a lot of fans who are angry (I'm part of it...). It's only because we care about the future of Amy and Ty... TOGETHER!!! We will slowly calm down and, if it happens, everything will be forgot when CBC will announced a 6th season.

LONG LIFE TO HEARTLAND!!

PS- A person said in a comment that the 6th season was confirmed. I try to not believe it before BW announces it, but is it true? What is the source of that information? Another said that it will be a new episode in april? Where that comes from? I'm all mixt up! Is it true BW? Where are they taking there informations?!

I kept watching the clock, waiting for Ty to propose, but felt really let down the way it ended. They have to have a season 6. I want to see Mallory return, and more of Caleb as well. So long to wait now for, hopefully, season 6. Amy was wonderful with the horses. She looked so pretty and happy. I still can't get over the way they left us hanging at the very end.

We can't watch season 5 here in the U.S. yet, but we've been following this blog. I have to tell you, we're pretty disappointed to read about the season finale & learn that Ty & Amy are still NOT engaged. We're hoping for many more seasons of Heartland & that those seasons will include Ty & Amy as a happily married couple. We don't want the very last episode of this entire series to be their wedding. We want to actually see them HAPPILY married. One of the things we've loved about their relationship is how much fun they have together & how much they truly love each other. They've been through enough & the tease is NOT better than them actually being married. We almost don't want to buy season 5 now, when it comes out, because of the letdown we've been reading about. However, season 4 ended w/ them not back together totally yet, so it would be nice to at least see them back together in season 5. This rollercoaster is very painful to watch, though. Enough already--let them get married & STAY married!!!

Thanks to all the posts about the season finale! All I can do is read what you have posted to know what happened since I live in the United States. I look forward to reading these blog post every week. I usually laugh out loud and my family thinks I am crazy for being so addicted to this show....at least I am not the only one!!!!

I have mixed feelings about what I have read. I agree with many of the posts that there just has to be a season 6 or it would not have ended with a cliffhanger!

Please keep us posted BW! YOUR ARE THE GREATEST!!!!

Great season Cast and Crew! Keep up the good work!

Hello Everyone;

Blog Whisperer as always that was another amazing and fantastic job on your blog. Thank you always for sharing your thoughts and your jokes with us.

I had watched the episode and all of the actors/actresses did as always do such an amazing job so well in fact that one can't help but feel happy for some yet sad for others.

Shane hitchhiking was not a good idea on his part, and he is indeed lucky that it was an RCMP officer that had picked him up instead of someone that could harm him. Maxim did a great job of portraying the shock that Miranda had felt once the RCMP vehicle had left.

The scene with Amy and Ty with Lobo in the field I had actually thought that he might ask Amy there to marry him however of course he would ask Jack's permission first. As Jack is a important role model/father figure in Ty's life and he respects him too much to not ask for his permission first.

That horse Zephyr that was delivered to Heartland for Amy was really quite beautiful which was the word that Amy herself had used. Seeing her work with both Zephyr and Spartan in the field was really quite amazing and impressive and Amber had done a great job here.

The scene in the barn where Shane is yelling at both Tim and Miranda was really done quite well by the young actor that portrays Shane. When Ty had offered to go after Shane to talk to him I was happy to see that. I had also liked the words that Ty had said to Shane that Heartland had helped him and Shane needed to find his place, a place where he is helped as well. I had really liked how Ty had told him to talk to his parents face to face for them to take him seriously. After getting up from the dinner table Shane did just that. He had told his parents that the fighting needed to end and that they need to be friends with eachother.

I was happy to see that they had listened to him and Tim had told her that he was done with all of the fighting and that it was a mistake that he would give up the custody battle. Miranda actually implied that he should see Shane. Also, later she had stated that Shane is right that they would stay for a few days for the three of them to spend some time together and that she really couldn't afford the lawyers.

The emotions that were portrayed by Maxim and Chris in what their character's Miranda and Tim had felt were really done quite well by the two of them. Throughout all of their scenes throughout this episode.

Ty had earlier had tried to ask Jack if he could have Amy's hand in marriage and he was unable to ask because Jack was on the phone with Lisa. She was away on one of her trips to Paris with her ex-husband Dan. What was good is how Lou had talked to Jack into going to Paris to see Lisa. The emotions and facial expressions were done quite well by Michelle here and in her other scenes as well throughout the show.

Ty was later able to ask Jack for Amy's hand in marriage. I had found what Jack had said to Ty really very sweet basically how much he values Ty. They had talked and they had recalled what Jack's words were to Ty in the beginning when he had first come to Heartland as opposed to the way that he feels about him now. Also, that Jack has known that Ty has loved Amy for a few years now. The emotions that were portrayed by Shaun and Graham that their character's Jack and Ty had felt were done quite well here. Also, the look in both of these actor's eyes had set the stage for really how their character's were feeling.

The scene where Peter was holding baby Katie was so cute, I loved how she had watched Lou as she was taking things out of the suv. Katie really looked so cute in her pink snow suite with the hat also that she was wearing. I always enjoy how Peter and Lou talk to each other. I really enjoyed what Peter had said to Lou about staying by his side over these past two years. I had also enjoyed another comment that he had said to Lou as a joke which was brought up by a community member in the Community Forum.

I really enjoyed how Tim, Miranda, and Shane were getting along and how kind they were to each other. I had felt badly for Miranda when she had told Tim of her feelings towards him and he hadn't mentioned anything in being in favor of it.

I also had really enjoyed the audititon that Amy had for the Dark Horse show and I had enjoyed how everyone was looking at her with amazement, and pride. Ty had looked at her with appreciation, love and worry in that if she did indeed decide to go on tour with the Dark Horse show. Amber had done a truly amazing job here of working with both Zephyr and Spartan. Jack had looked at Ty here with concern towards how Ty was feeling at that specific moment. Amy had turned down going on the Dark Horse tour as she had realized that this Liberty training had helped her to hone in her skills of working with horses at Heartland. She had said that working with horses is what she wants to do, as the shows and going on the road is not for her.

Jack was dressed rather nicely to meet Lisa in Paris. As he waited for the taxis to take him to the airport he had handed Lou a note that was from Peter in regards to his anniversary surprise for her. He had also given Ty his blessing at that point which was mentioned by a community member in the Community Forum.

The scene where Peter was waiting for Lou and Lou had shown up with a look of happiness and thanks on her face. The emotions in this scene were portrayed quite well by both Gabe and Michelle in regards to how their character's Peter and Lou were feeling here as you could really feel their happiness in this scene. I had really enjoyed the meaning behind two paper lanterns being set up to the sky for wishes of the future I had really thought that was really very sweet. So, Peter and Lou's wishes for them together as a couple, as a family and for their future together - I did very much enjoy this.

I had felt badly for Miranda as she had looked out the window and had seen the paper lanterns go up in the sky, as I want things to work out for her as well.

The scene where Amy and Ty are sitting in front of the fire I had really felt so very badly for Ty here as he so wanted to ask Amy to marry him however because of words that she had said he had left the room feeling disappointed and sad. She had a talk with him and she told him that she didn't want either of them to tie the other down. However as pointed out by others in the Community Forum she hadn't known about his mindset at that specific moment. She didn't know about his plans to propose to her, all she knew is that he was to go to University and her fear had been for them if he indeed would need to move away from Heartland. So, she meant it as she loves him and wants him to do the career of his chosing. It had looked that Ty had taken it as she isn't yet ready for marriage he looked so sad when he left the room claiming to get fire wood for the fire. He stood outside looking disappointed and sad, as he had watched himself the paper lanterns move up in the sky. Ty's phone had rung and Amy had called for him to get his phone when he didn't come inside she had reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring box. She had starred at it and the exit to outside. That was sad as she was inside starring at the box and he was outside feeling disappointment. I do understand the reasons behind a cliffhanger - I do really. This also goes to show how amazing these actors/actresses truly are because they portray the emotions of their character's so very and extremely well that one can't help but feel badly for them when things don't work out in their favor.

So, this was my first Season watching it along with all of you and I have been so truly impressed by all of the talent that I have seen here and yes I mean in front of the camera as well as behind it. I would like to say Congratulations to all of the writers, producers, directors, cast, crew, Blog Whisperer, The CBC, and to every single person that has a hand in the making of this gem of a show that we all call; Heartland for a truly impressive job at this 5th Season of Heartland. Thank you all for gracing up with your amazing talents you all give an amazing part of yourselves each and every single episode. You have put your heart and soul into this show, you have shown your amazing dedication and that is what indeed has made this show to be what it is today. I thank you in every way whole heartedly for what you have all done here, for it is beyond truly amazing and beyond impressive. Each and every single one of you has done a truly phenomenal job which has turned into such phenomenal work - Heartland has indeed become a true masterpiece.

Thank you to all of the fans out there for continuing to show your support of this amazing show and I ask that you do all that you can to support it. I thank each and every single one of you for helping to increase the popularity of this gem/masterpiece of a show that we all call; Heartland.

There is a truly perfect meaning behind this show as this show brings family, friends, and communities together. This show encourages us to be good to each other and to help each other, this show also encourages us to help animals which is always good because animals/horses are truly amazing. They bring so much happiness to us and helping them is the least that we can do for them.

Again, thank you everyone - absolutely every single one of you.

May you all feel the warmth of love's comfort, may you all be safe and stay safe. May you all enjoy your week. Again, thank you.

Sincerely,

Tanya

Hello Everyone;

My apologies as I had forgotten to write this in my last post. I really love the song that was added at the end of the show. I love music and the lyrics from what I did hear of the song.

Song title; I Won't Give Up
Song By; Jason Marx ( I wrote it down however it was scribbled in really fast - so I hope that I am right about the last name Marx). Anyway thank you so much for adding this song to the end as it was truly amazing to hear. Again, thank you.

I think Heartland is waiting to see what all the fans wanted before they announce a season 6. This way they can start thinking on what to do in season 6.I still think that Ty and Amy will get married, and that they will bring Mallory back. And of course Jack will be back,Heartland is his home. These are my thoughts, hope I am right on some things.Come on PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let there be a season 6,7,8 and so on!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to thank everyone for the comments about the show. I am not able to see it, but it helps to get an understanding about the show. It also helps me to understand in the preview why Amy after so many shows of looking and wearing her hair like she had grown up was now wearing her hair like a young girl.

Thank you and keep the comments coming.

All right, my hissy-fit is history. I've watched the episode a second time and feel much better about it. I won't be boy-cotting watching Season 6 until Ty and Amy get married...just until they get engaged :>)! But I think I am in the vast majority of loyal Heartland fans who feel that it is simply getting absurdly and dysfunctionally unrealistic to the characters of Ty and Amy, and who they've become and how they've grown, for the writers to give them (and their fans)anymore "break-up drama." Get them engaged ASAP, get Ty to vet school close by at the U. of Calgary, and if there has to be more couples' drama (of course!), give it to other characters. There are plenty of good candidates! Heartland is still a family show, and if Ty and Amy break-up one more time, I think that the younger audience especially, will start assuming psychologically that healthy, normal relationships are impossible to achieve. Writers - don't burden the youth of Canada and the world with that :>)!!

I have to say the finale was amazing.
I was fascinated by the beautiful horse show and Amy's incredible performance.
And then of course Peter's lanterns for Lou. Soo beautifully made. And the song made it perfect.
I'm glad Jack faced his fear and decided to fly to Paris. Who'd have thought that? ;)
I'm also glad Miranda and Tim came to the decision that no lawyers are necessary. And maybe those two will get together one day! I think they would make a good couple!
And I really enjoyed Lou and Ty's conversation and Lou's enthusiastic support.
Well, and the Amy and Ty cliffhanger...let's say I didn't expect it (I really really thought they would get engaged in this episode or Ty would at least pop the question) but I should have known better!:))

Thanks to the cast and crew for another amazing episode and thanks for an outstanding season (in my opinion the best one yet). Looking forward to seeing you back on our screens next fall :)) I mean now there has to be a 6th season, no?! ;)

And BW, you do know that I would not survive the 6 months without your weekly blog posts, don't you?! ;D

Well, this season final was certainly a busy one, and since their have been hundreds of posts already I'll keep mine short and to the point. Best couple was by a long mile Lou and Peter (Ok, and Katy), their relationship has grown so much and mainly it seems because Lou has morphed into this totally mellow mum who doesn't know what the word 'stress'means anymore, and Peters 'No' every few seconds was hilarious.

Most hopeful event? That would be the way Shane took Ty's advice on board and basically laid down the law to his dysfunctional parents, - and in doing so transformed himself from an unhappy complainer into a serious and thoughtful young man.

Biggest change? Jack finally accepting that his grand daughters were adults who along with Peter and Ty were perfectly capable of running Heartland without him, I could almost feel Jack's sigh of relief as he jumped into that taxi.

Biggest non event? Yup, the non engagement. To me it seemed as if we had stepped into a time warp and Ty was once again nursing a promise ring in his pocket and hitting regulo 10 on the stress factor, well it would have seemed like that except that those days Ty could actually get a ring onto Amy's finger without to much effort. Yes, I really do get that suspense keeps viewers involved but a bit more invention would have gone a long way, like isn't it about time Ty and Amy took a holiday together - perhaps to Nashville? or how about a First Nation Wedding that Tim could break up in the nick of time?

Ok, complaints over, it was in general a good episode to end season five with, lets hope that if even if we don't get a season six a special can be put together showing those two finally together.

Great final episode but a crappy ending. I think the writers have blown the moment and I don't know how it can be resolved, at least to the viewer's satisfaction. If there is no Season 6, this ending is absurd. If there is a Season 6 (and there must be) how can the proposal/ring discovery be resolved - 5 months after the fact. The show has always picked up the new season 5 months later than the previous one ended. The timing (atmosphere) will never be the same. I can't imagine Ty going that long without asking Amy and neither can Amy go that long knowing about the ring without saying something. The relationship is doomed to failure. The only way out might be to have a flashback. Otherwise, there would have to be a breakup and more drama getting back together again. Enough drama please. CBC had better get its act together and get this show back on the road again. Here's hoping.

Man....opinions are all over the place here. Just wanted to say, since I didn't mention it earlier that I want to take my hats off to all the actors/actresses in this episode. I didn't care for the episode, but it wasn't because of the actors.

Also, I have an honest question for BW and I hope you'll give an answer. If you do I know it will be an honest one.:)) You claimed you felt this was the best 'season' finale yet.....and I truly believe you. But my question is, would you be truly happy and satisfied, given the ending, with this episode as a 'series' finale? I saw you mention before that this episode was meant as a 'season' finale, not a 'series' finale.

So given Ty and Amy at this point are really the focal and most loved characters in the show. I know not everyone see's that, but let's face it, the vast majority of fan videos and fan fic feature Ty and Amy. Most of the anticipation going into Season 5 was if Ty and Amy were back together, most of the anticipation going into this finale was on Ty and Amy, and if there is a Season 6, most of the anticipation will be on Ty and Amy....that's just the way it is.

Given that, and given the ending wasn't a happy one for them....it was very uncertain, unsettling and incomplete. Would you, BW, truly be happy and satisfied with that kind of ending for the most loved characters on this show, and then . . . .THE END. Story is over.

I'd really love to hear your honest opinion there.:))

Moving on to another Heartland topic dear to most of our hearts...Mallory. I'm assuming there will be a Season 6, and I'm also assuming that Mallory will be returning to the show for at least some episodes. The show wouldn't be the same without her. My guess is that Jessica Amlee, smart and wise kid/young woman that she is in both fiction and real life, wants to spend more time at her real-life home, spread her wings professionally and personally, and not be destined to have a future where her final show-biz hurrah is having her own segment in one of those morbidly depressing TV specials about "Child Stars - Where Are They Now?" So...presumably we'll see quite a bit more of her next season, but not in as many episodes. And maybe the show will gain another and younger cute kid cast member to give us a little kid-wit and a few chuckles when Mallory's not around. Shane is a possibility for that if he's around more and if the writers let his life lighten up some so that he can take a breath and show his sense of humor, which he's exhibited to a degree already.

ChristinaLee wrote:

I think that the balance of the horses and the drama was very well balanced. They actually made the horses fit with the things that Amy and Ty were going through.

Also, I thought it was a very well thought out ending. Jack leaves to go to Paris to see Lisa. Peter found a home for his family. Mallory moved to Nashville(although I hate that!). And Amy and Ty's lives are changing. The writers answered some of our questions and also did things that they promised they would.

The directors gave us enough to go off of for the long wait, but also left enough for us to want to continue to watch the show next season. Which brings me to the point of a season 6.

If they didn't have a season 6 it would mean leaving Amy and Ty's relationship totally unsolved and Tim's attempt in getting to be a father to Shane unsolved also. We would all be left wondering if Mallory ever ended up with the right guy or if she came back. Peter and Lou's new home would be left as a home that they never lived in. I'm positive that there will be a season 6, but saying that there may not be a season 7. Although the writers will probably come up with something to make it necessary to continue with the show.

All in all I think it was a great finale. I agree with the Blog Whisperer, it was the best finale of them all.

Blog Whisperer, what address can I use to write a letter to the Heartland cast?

The biggest criticism leveled at the ending has to do with how the writers can get the fans to buy-in (again) to a mega-romantic moment for the proposal, now that Amy has seen the ring and Ty is having doubts. I think the only way to re-capture the vibe that all of the fans are looking for, as far as suspense, anticipation and romance are concerned, is if Amy follows Ty and proposes to him.

Thoughts?

skyler wrote:

Ty doesn't propose he and Amy are sitting and he goes outside and the phone accidentally rings and the ring was in the same pocket and she opened it and that is how it ends. There has to be a season six.

In case anyone is interested, I posted the words to the song playing at the very end of the episode "I won't give up" by Jason Mraz, under the Community section, Episodes, 518. They are on page 38 under CountryFan. They really fit the scenes, the lanterns floating up, and Miranda & Ty watching them.

[Blog Whisperer: that song really was an awesome choice, wasn't it? ]

We are all on the cusp of memory here with this ending which suspended Ty and Amy, Tim, Miranda and Shane, Jack and Lisa, Pete and Lou's house and
Mallory's love life. If there is no season 6, we will spend some part of our future imagining resolutions to these plot lines. If we share them we will debate how likely they are. Watching the reruns will seem strange indeed. I don't think I will watch them.

I was shocked with the ending too. But after thinking of what Amy said to Ty I would feel depressed to if someone said something like that to me. I love the show! I have been watching it since season 1 and it is great. Great story line with Lou and Peter. Was not expecting Jack to leave to go to Paris.Hopefully season 6!!!!!! Can not wait to find out if there is one.

Hi,
first time on the blog as well :)
Just a few comments - first, I found the whole series the best I have ever seen. It is just great and really stands out in the best way among everything that is nowadays offered on TV. As to Ty and Amy's relationship - yes, it might seem sad that they have problems sometimes, but that's just life, and especially the one of young people. It's just the way Jack said back in season 2 - "we've had our ups and downs, but in the end she ended up marrying me" :) It is natural for people of their age to change opinions as they seek their ways in the life.
And the second - referring to the continuation of the series. Here were I live, we also had severe budget cuts and it meant taking a very favorite national TV show off the screen. What the movie makers did - they started a campaign to collect donations from those who really wanted the show to go on. And it worked - they collected enough to continue the show, and a bit later, realizing the huge people's interest, sponsors came up and so the show is still on :)

The horse side passing over the other horse is such a take off from Guy McLean the Australian horse trainer. Who side passes 3 horses over 1 horse, then stads on their backs and cracks whips.

Smokey brings up a very good point. The new seasons always begin in the spring of Heartland-time, where five months have passed since the Heartland-time (December) of the previous season's final episode. So unless we find that Amy and Ty have have already been engaged for awhile when Season 6 starts, the writers will have a dilemma figuring out how to play the five months of Heartland-time in-between episodes. Hmmmm...Maybe the simplest way to handle it would be to have a flashback episode to winter-time, maybe a Christmas-time episode, that takes place a couple/three weeks in Heartland-time after the Candles In The Wind episode, where we see Ty asking Tim for his permission to marry Amy, and then the long-awaited scene where Ty asks Amy on Christmas Eve, and she says yes, acting surprised, and pretending that she hasn't seen the ring before. It's the holidays and everyone is happy, and all the primary characters are at the ranch celebrating Christmas and Amy and Ty's engagement!! Then after that long-ish flashback, we move to real-time Heartland-time of the spring, and catch-up with the regulat storyline, including Ty being accepted at the U. of Calgary Vet School, and Amy training some of Renard's horses at Heartland, etc., etc., etc. (Amy, watch-out, I think Renard has a crush on you.) Another option would be to simply have the flashback be to a continuation of the final scene of Candles In The Wind, and Ty just comes back into the house, pulls out the ring, asks Amy, and she says yes. CBC - Please contact me by e-mail so that I can give you a snail-mail address to send my concept-creation check to! Much appreciated!

As one of the people waiting for a fairytale ending for Amy and Ty I gotta say that the season finale was...fantastic! Not altogether surprising as I figured it was a long shot to begin with but still really great. The writers seem to have left an amazing amount of room for some great storylines to play out in season 6. And I have no doubt that there will be a season 6 given the popularity of this show and all of the support it receives from the fans!!

I can't wait to see if they start the next episode/season from where they left off (which they generally don't do) or if they start elsewhere and fill in the blanks over the course of the episode/season. And I love that they leave us suspended about what Amy's expression is really conveying!! It could be "Oh crap, what is he thinking? We can't get married!" or something more along the lines of "Oh crap, why did I have to go and say all that? Now he's never going to ask me!" I have no doubt that Amy and Ty will get their happy ever after. I'm just hopeful that we all get to experience some more good (and bad) before they get there!!

I honestly have to say that I think this was my favorite season so far and I can't wait to see how the writers, cast and crew top it! Season 6 has amazing potential and I can't wait to tune in!

I'll end this here as I'm sure BW has much better things to do than scan what I've written. I'm sure that coming up with new ways to tease and torment us fans over the next several months is very time consuming! ;) Can't wait for tomorrow's post BW!!!

I think the reason the CBC isn't renewing Heartland is because of the budget. Go to Google type in CBC. Once the page comes up on the google toolbar on the side is news. Click that and scroll down until you come to an article reading: CBC Cuts: 2012 Budget Could Mean Hundreds of Job Losses. There you'll find the problem. Their thinking of cutting the budget by 10% and that is very costly, which means that shows will be cancelled because they can't afford to pay, otherwise their "books" won't equal (I happen to understand the "book equaling" because I'm taking an accounting course in my final year of high school, so I understand).

The CBC is probably waiting for the budget to come so they can see what to cancel and keep. Otherwise if it did renew heartland like December of 2011 or even Jan or Fed of 2012, then they would have to cancel other shows or news.

If worse comes to worse and hearltand does get canceled (which my world would literally just collapse from not having hearltand) then maybe the producers can go to another Canadian TV network, if possible.

You know I'm actually gonna go into depression now, because the season has ended and I will have to wait MONTHS to find out what's going to happen about the ring! Glad they're together but... oh I wanted an engagement :(

Bet Amy was kicking herself after saying not to tie each other down cos she probably didn't even mean it like that but Ty being as nervous as he was interpreted it that way :( Ohhh sad times!

Season 6... I await not so patiently :p

HOWEVER huge huge huge well done to all the cast for an absolutely brilliant season 5, some really amazing acting as always from both people and animals!

Blog whisperer. I have a question. I learned pretty quick that most of the lines that the actors read that seem out of place or do not make any sense usually will be revealed in a later episode. (ex. In season 3 Scott tells Lou in a episode that he got his pilots license. Episode 309 has him and Ty flying off.) My question is about episode 302 second half of the ep. Mallory gives Amy back her cell phone, says she found it out by the barn. Tells her she should put a password on it because people could find out alot about her life looking through her phone. That always seemed out of place to me and I waited for it to make sense at a later episode. I thought it might make sense in season 4 with the Amy & Chase SL but never did. Just wondering why the writers put that in the script?

[Blog Whisperer: that's an interesting question, and I'll ask about it. But my guess is that it's just good advice - and it IS good advice to password protect your stuff! ]

This is such a kick in the a.. drama episode again, I keep thinking of some song that says " Now we're just dust in the wind" or something like that . YEP the candles blew out in the wind, the lanterns floaated away , and I will never watch this sick chareade of broken heart episodes ANYMORE!!! Adios manjana ! 5 Years is enough and more than enough for 2 years already. DUMP IT CBC.

This is my first blog, even though I often read the other comments I have never left my own.

I have watched this show since the very beginning and absolutely love it! I have three young boys and we sit down together and watch Heartland as a family, and look forward to it every week. I have always loved the show for it's values and for it's realistic portrayal of life and family. It is truly one of the only wholesome family shows on the air!

I loved this years season finale, it was so full of love and emotion, however it also left me feeling sad and disappointed. I agree with one of the other blog postings in which the person stated "this whole take a few steps forward and a few more back is going to get too tiresome and frustrating". Heartland is not a "soap opera", however if things with Ty and Amy continue to be this difficult with the ongoing on/off relationship a soap opera is exactly what this will become for me. That is the biggest downfall for so many shows on TV, they fail at making the characters lives happy and instead make them have so much more heartache than is realistic :(. If and I pray that they do become engaged/married, now that Amy has seen the ring I am not sure how the writers will be able to capture the surprise, elation and innocence that comes with an engagement.

If and I am sure there will be a season 6....(this really is the only show worth watching on TV that you can watch as a family), I hope the writers will continue to make this a "realistic to life" show rather than a continues drama full of disappointment and discouragement.

The acting continues to be superb, the cast should be very proud of themselves at how well they capture and portray life's ups and downs and the love that exits within a family. Fantastic Job! CBC should be very proud of the quality of this show and the message that you are bringing to families on a weekly basis :).

This is my second post about episode 18, and I'm going to eat a bit of humble pie. (a really rare occasion!).
I guess like so many here I kind of got wrapped up in all the hopes and expectations of the Ty/Amy saga and lost sight of the big picture, though I have to say in my defence that BW's little nuggets of gossip were way to good to be ignored. Anyway, here goes.
When Amy said that she didn't want things to change I mistakenly took it to mean that just as always she was unthinkingly reacting to the past, that all her recent development was a mirage. Even more difficult to take however was that all that dithering over a proposal seemed to confirmed the same applied to Ty, that he wasn't really a man looking to build a future but just the same scared little boy of old, and I kind of jumped in and made a lot of assumptions that the writers were playing fast and loose with us by turning the clock back just to get a sixth series. (oops.)

I was wrong, a second viewing showed that the problems were not Ty and Amy's at all but the events taking place around them. Amy's rock and Ty's closest-thing-to-a-dad figure was flying of to France, Mallory had already left, Peter, Lou and Katy were leaving for a new home and Tim was wrapped up in his new family. It's obvious now that this is the change she was referring to, and that Ty was just being a typical worry-wort you would expect in his situation.

So, was it in fact the best ending to any season.... Yup.

T&T

Jennifer wrote:

I forgot to mention in my last post...I don't think
Amy meant anything negative when she said "we shouldn't tie each other down". I think what she was actually saying and possibly the words that should have been used was that they shouldn't stand in each others way of following their dreams. They should always be supportive of each others decisions. Amy was suggesting this when she said that she shouldn't be worried about Ty going off to Vet school, and that she shouldn't make him feel bad about doing so. I also don't think Ty took what she said the wrong way, I just think it made him more nervous. ;)

melanie wrote:

Ususally if a series ends they will call it the SERIES Season FINALE. So have hope my friends they will (fingers crossed) not let their adoring fans hang ourselves.
Sometimes I get so angry at TY for being so literal. He believes every last word she says. Including "tie us down". I don't think she means, not being together "married", she means to make a decision that would keep them apart for a long time. And Amy needs to say her feelings out loud more often. UGH! Poor communication skills there. Anyway, I will be champing on the bit for a Season 6 announcement from BW! Maybe even today?????

I have to admit that I've been puzzled by CBC's delay in announcing a Season 6 for Heartland. I expected the announcement to come no later than at the conclusion of Season 5's final episode. Even if the government cuts CBC's budget by as much as 10%, which is quite possible, why would CBC cancel the one show they have that has received both wide popular (consistently excellent ratings) and critical acclaim? In many ways, Heartland is the signature drama of the network. It's the one show that everyone agrees is top quality in every way: writing, acting, production quality, promoting Canada, etc. It makes no sense for CBC to not re-new Heartland, and I wish they'd just put politics aside and go ahead and announce it.

Ok, I finally got to see the finale and while I'm dissapointed that the great romantic ending that I wanted didn't happen, I have to admit the acting was superb. Relatively darn good news today about CBC budget cuts from the government. Not as much as many feared. Gotta believe that the announcement for a Heartland Season 6 is now guaranteed! And based on the three year time-line given for the relatively moderate CBC cut, we're probably good-to-go for at least Seasons 7 and 8 too, as long as the ratings stay halfway decent, and the writers, actors, and producers want to do the show! Fantastic!

Hally wrote:

Brenda - I have no idea, and am certainly/definitely clueless compared to BW. But it would make no sense for CBC to cut Heartland, for lots of reasons, eventhough, granted, it is quite expensive to produce. Many respected people in the business would argue that Heartland is probably the highest quality family drama produced in Canada or anywhere during the past couple of decades...or more. The show really serves as CBC's quality anchor right now in the view of many, and keeping it going serves the network's credibility well at a time when they really need it. Nevertheless, I'm still rubbing my rabbit's foot a few times per day for extra good luck/vibes, and have been talking (and whispering) to my horse and dogs daily about Heartland, all of whom, best as I can tell, agree emphatically with me that CBC should give the giddy-up for a Season 6!

Hey blog whisperer please replay,

Um I have about 4 questions,

Are Amy and Ty getting married?
Is there any way to watch season 5 heartland in the us?
And can you upload the episodes to YouTube or make them avalible to the us through this website?
Last question
Will you please respond?

[Blog Whisperer: Hi Shelby!
1) Your guess is as good as mine.
2) Not yet, unfortunately. The US is is just finishing up its second block of episodes, which takes things to nearly the end of season 3. Beginning in September, the next 22 episode block will take you to the end of season 4, so you ARE catching up!
3) Sorry, the CBC is not allowed to do that - when the rights to a program are granted in another country, like the U.S., along with it comes the rights to stream the episode online even if the U.S. networks don't choose to do so. So it would be a major contract violation for the CBC to make the episodes available outside of Canada. For the record, Canadians can't watch any American networks online either.

I hope that helps! ]

I am absolutely addicted to Heartland and all the people in the story. The cast have excellent chemistry together and make the story so real! My only 'complaint' would be if they finish with Season 5 and don't go on. Ty and Amy belong together but the finale actually left too many things up in the air actually. He hasn't actually proposed... only the implication is there! We don't really know how the Tim, Miranda & Shane storyline turns out... Amy & Ty's connection is left as a maybe (hope to see the proposal, the wedding and a baby for them)... Jack & Lisa (not really settled since he's going to Paris but Lisa's ex is there so that implies another storyline altogether)... Caleb & Ashley (will they stay together?)... Mallory & Jake (also left up in the air)... altogether too many question left unanswered so please! keep the saga going! Please don't end it here but keep up enthralled for more seasons so we can follow their saga. we will all be avidly waiting for Season 6 to continue. Please don't the Heartland fans... and we're not only Canadians. Apparently the US is pretty hooked on it too!

I loved this episode, and I agree with you, this was the best season finale yet. I love the scenes were Amy work with the black horses, especially when she shows it all to her family. I also love the thing with Ty and Amy but it was so frustrating when the episode ended, I want more, more, more and I really hope that there is going to be a season 6! :)

Wow , we (my wife and I ) both love this show. There have been times when we leave a restaurant, or hurry with a meal, so we don't miss Heartland.Amy is my favorite one. I always have loved horses, and she knows just how t treat them. I can feel myself in her shoes.Keep up the good work girl. I had a feeling Amy and Ty would marry, if only they could get all their ducks in a row. What a perfect couple, he a vet or going to be , and Amy the horse whisperer. Awesome.I can't wait for new episodes to begin again. Not beeing able to watch Heartland on Sunday night is like taking my dinner away from me, before i get to eat it. Cast and crew awsome show. Wish there were more shows like this on TV , Now adays there is so much violence. This is truly a family show, and we miss it , and the actors, so hurry back all.

Rick

Hello, i am from Switzerland, and i just wanted to say what a marvellous series Heartland is, I discovered this show a few months ago, i had read all the books when i was 10... So it took me back and i reconnected with my past, even if there is a lot of difference with the books. So now, 10 years later, i can't wait to watch the 6th season, because i am sure there will be one!

For those of you in the U.S. I'm in Southern Illinois and have a converter box and antenna, no cable, satellite, etc. Heartland airs at 2am Monday mornings on channel 23.2 / mytv / KBSIDT2. Hope that helps you find it!

For Michelle, I too am in the U.S. and I'm wondering if you get to see current episodes or are they Season 3 or 4? I can't find anywhere here that shows Season 5.

It's the most beautiful episode of Heartland I know. In the Netherlands the only have season 1, but I watch it on my computer. I can't wait until season 6, but I need to wait longer to watch in on my computer. If I want it to see on tv, then I need to wait much longer. So, I will need to wait. :S

OK So I guess we are REALLY BEHIND here in the USA. I justread about the seaon finale for Season 5 and it talks about Lou and her 2nd Anniversary. OMG I just saw her get engaged! Then Heartland quit showing here. i was so frustrated so I came to the website. I see that someone else from US says we are only on Season 3 here. Now I ask myself what do I do buy season 4 and 5 and watch them or wait for season 4 and 5 to show here? I LOVE HEARTLAND and have been going CRAZY looking for it. I have it to tape but there are no new episodes to watch. THIS IS CRAZY. HOW DO WE GET HEARTLAND CAUGHT UP IN THE USA?
