Well, now that the NHL and CBC have welcomed back the Winnipeg Jets we can settle down and get on with the serious business of bringing you another brand new adventure in the Heartland saga, as this Sunday, October 16, Episode 504 - "Beyond Hell's Half Mile," written by Ken Craw and directed by Grant Harvey - premieres on CBC Television at 7:00pm (7:30pm in Newfoundland)! Read on...
There's a lot going on this time, when Amy's asked to work with a chuck wagon horse. As she tries to learn the problem she discovers an impediment that could put the entire team in danger and change the dynamics of a prominent chuck wagon family...
Back at Heartland, everybody deals with sleep deprivation as Lou and Peter desperately try to get Katie to sleep at night. Mallory thinks --as she often does-- that she's found a solution, but her sleep training method ends up pitting Lou and Peter against each other.
And Caleb surprises Ty when he returns to the trailer... without Ashley.
Yes, once again there's a LOT going on this Sunday on Heartland!
+++++++++++++++
Coincidentally, Grant Harvey - who directed this Sunday's episode - will be returning to set tomorrow to direct the next block of filming, as production starts on the 15th and 16th episodes of this 5th Season. If you follow @HeartlandOnCBC on Twitter you can get several updates a day, right from the set, detailing and hinting things that are happening during production. If you're a fan of Heartland, this is one of the best ways, along with hanging out on the Facebook page and (I certainly hope!) reading these blog posts, of being as knowledgeable as possible about Heartland!
+++++++++++++++
And for those of you looking to have your own copies of the series, November 1 is not that far away (A little over 2 weeks to be precise). That is the date that the Season 4 DVD of Heartland, along with a bunch of extras - including bloopers, will be available. But in addition, the two-hour special holiday movie, "A Heartland Christmas" --which a lot of you saw last December on CBC-- will also be available to purchase separately. Watch for them where you usually buy your DVDs, or of course you can order them from the CBC Gift Shop, who will happily ship them anywhere in Canada, or, of course, Amazon.
+++++++++++++++
So that's about it... but a new episode of Heartland in 3 days is usually enough, isn't it?
Here's hoping you enjoy it and I'll be sitting here eagerly waiting to read your comments about the episode! Be sure to come back and let us all know what you thought of "Beyond Hell's Half Mile," this Sunday's new episode of Heartland.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks BW....looking forward to it. Wonder where Caleb will be staying since I'm pretty sure he and Ty won't be living together. Wonder if he'll stay in the loft? Also, that one pic looks like the same guy from episode 501 who returned Pal to the family. Also looking forward to seeing Amy do what she does best with the horses and the comedy of the sleep deprived family. I'll be sure to return after viewing to share my thoughts.:))

From a fan in the US...love this show! I'm wondering if there is a way to view the new episodes from the US? I would love to see this =)
I'm also curious...the work Amy does with the horses, and more specifically with the owners of the horses relates heavily to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I'm wondering if in future episodes if this might be incorporated? I think it would be great exposure for the industry and a great path for Amy's character to pursue for her future.

Also i bet that caleb will kick ty out but ty won't move back and if he does move back to the loft he will be lucky cause he doesn't have to hear the baby cry that would be so cute if amy can't stand it and she sleeps in the loft.why is Ashley never come back with Caleb. well mabey Caleb can't stand the school or something like that.

I can not wait for this episode to air and see more of Heartland. I was recently introduced to this show by a friend about 3 weeks ago and got HOOKED RIGHT AWAY!! I started watching season 1 and just two days ago got caught up to the latest episode with Lou's baby naming ceremony. I can not tell you how much I absolutely LOVE this show and really enjoy watching it with my girls. I spent many late nights watching episodes online and on DVD...I could not turn them off. Now I want to go back and watch them all over again taking my time to really take it all in. And the music that is chosen is always so great and ties into the storyline perfectly. Please CBC keep this show on for a VERY LONG time so my girls and I can enjoy some wholesome, quality programming on t.v. that is otherwise void from cable right now.
Take care,
Newbie Heartland Fan!

And I screamed at the top of my lungs when Caleb came home. I hope he and Ash can fix things up because they're so cute together.

I am a HUGE fan of your show living on east coast of US & LOVE your show! Found it while flipping channels and have been hooked ever since. I do wish it was easier to get though. I have purchased all your DVD episodes (beginning thru season 3) from Amazon & will order season 4 & Christmas DVD when avail. GMC channel on our satellite does show some episodes but usually older ones. Heartland is a WONDERFUL show & I have told all my friends/relatives about it!! Heartland is totally refreshing & each episode leaves the viewer with a good feeling. SOO much better than some of the "garbage" TV shows we are subjected to here in the states!!

This episode was so funny, heartwarming and filled with quality story lines. I love how you are developing all the characters and their relationships with each other. Also loved this week's horse storyline, I learn something every week about the different types of horsemanship. Everyone at Heartland keeps everything so refreshing and truly enjoyable to watch. I just LOVE every bit of it so much. I really hope that Caleb and Ashley get back together and happy he did not throw her wedding ring into the pond. I hope that Amy and Ty's relationship continues to progress positively...they really are so good together and have great chemistry. Keep it up Heartland team, you are AMAZING!!

Loved the show! My favourite of season 5 so far. Getting back to the roots of Heartland and showing the strong and maturing relationship between Ty and Amy.
Love Jack and Malory together! I think they have a fantastic onscreen dynamic and play well off of one another.
Fav part of the show had to be Caleb by the pond. Although no words were uttered that scene was emotionally powerful. Looking forward to where the writers take this character.

Hi BW.
Do you have any idea what is happening with Heartland in Australia?
It is so disappointing that they stopped playing it, we were once ahead of most other countries with Heartland episodes!
Do you know if there is any chance we will get season four, then eventually season 5?
Or is there another way we can get access? i.e. would it be possible to somehow get the DVDs sold here?
Thanks

It may be time for Ty and Amy to either get married in the story, or for the writers to somehow sweetly and delicately create at least the subtle impression that Ty and Amy have "been together," as it were. That can be done in a very tasteful and innocent PG way that would likely go over the heads of the under-14/15 audience anyway. That particular lack of realism at their ages is making their characters/romance less believable as time goes on.

Re my comment above of 10/18, one easy way to innocently do this would be for Ty and Amy to have a rain-check dinner at Caleb's trailor (without racoons this time), or to just be shown out for a night date at Maggie's, followed by a scene or two with other characters that night, then back to Ty and Amy who are shown leaving the trailor hand-in-hand the next morning smiling sweetly and lovingly and playfully kidding each other in their usual way. That's all it would take.

Well said Hally! I do still very much think that Ty and Amy's relationship and love is very believeable - the actors, especially Graham covey such a true depth of emotion, tenderness, love for each other, as their characters. It is refreshing to see a relationship where sex is not the focus or used as a generic ratings grabber - where a true relationship is developed. This being all said and considering the show is PG, I think the show is heading in the direction of TY and AMY being wholly "together".

Sharon wrote:

I really and truly hope that the show isn't moving toward Ty and Amy "being together", as mentioned above. Their relationship is believable enough, without having to bring in that aspect of it. With Ty moving out, the issue has come up a couple times (in this episode, and in a previous episode where Jack warns Ty not to turn his moving out into a party place where Amy comes home at 2 in the morning.) There were hints of Caleb and Ash "being together" when they first got together, but they were always portrayed as having less innocence. I just don't think that it's necessary for the show to even go there with Ty and Amy. The show is presenting two main characters that in their whole lives strive to have integrity, even if they mess up every once in a while, and I think to go there with them would be against their character. Plus, Heartland is viewed by a very large audience - and many of them young girls. To have Amy and Ty "get together" would say to them that "getting together" is just naturally the "next step" instead of presenting a couple that decides to have self-control, boundaries that respect the parents (ie, Jack), and self-respect. Because young girls (many people, for that matter), identify very personally with their favourite characters and don't always reason that these are "mature" (ish) people making "mature" (ish) decisions - they identify with them on their own age level, not the age that the characters are supposed to be - they're not necessarily going to understand that these are decisions that need to be waited on, and made in a committed, mature relationship, not at the call of momentary, intense emotions. So as a show that is labeled a "family" show, it has some responsibility to be aware of the viewers and be aware of how the ideas that the show is presenting affects the viewers.
Now, on to my guesses as to why Caleb's acting so funny: I think Ashley is pregnant and he doesn't know how to handle that. Or something along those lines. But Ash is pregnant, for sure.

As is always the case, I recall moments from movies and tv shows while watching new episodes from Heartland. Heartland fan above asked what would happen now that Caleb is back? Will he and Ty live together in the trailer? This reminded me of Felix and Oscar on the Odd Couple! I could almost here the theme-Dada da da da da dada da dada...Jack singing to the crying baby made me think of Brahm's Lullaby sung by Sinatra in Anchors Aweigh.
Hally wrote:
Posted October 24, 2011 12:42 PM
Sharon above - I don't necessarily disagree with your perspective. You make a good point about the younger viewers perhaps seeing themselves and their ages and circumstances as Ty's and Amy's in spite of age differences. The simplest solution to Ty's and Amy's now proven lasting and mature love and commitment is for them to get married soon. They are ready for that. If not, maybe an innocent scene as I mentioned above would work to give an impression of intimacy and nothing more. No need to even show them having a nap together. IMO, such intimacy in a long term committed relationship such as Ty's and Amy's has become is pretty natural and wholesome and nothing to be ashamed of. Part of the issue for me and others I talk about Heartland with is that Graham and Amber are both starting to look quite a bit older than their characters' ages. It will be fun to see what the writers do with this wonderful couple. But...if they break-up one more time, I'm going to have to stop watching the show!
