That's right, everyone - you don't have to be a mathematician to figure out how to count down to the September 18 Season 5 Premiere of Heartland! All you have to do is go to the previous Thursday's blog posting on this site and subtract 7 from the number of days in the heading.
So let's see... 52 minus 7 equals... wait, let me google it... YES... 45!
Alright then! 45 days to go until Sunday, September 18, when - at 7:00pm (7:30pm in Newfoundland!) The first of 18 brand new episodes of Heartland will premiere on CBC Television across Canada.
Last week --when there were 52 days remaining-- I used an image of playing cards, 52 of which make up a complete deck.
So for the photo to go along with this week's blog post why didn't I use an image of a Colt 45 pistol, or a 45 RPM record (whatever those are) or just the Roman numerals XLV? Why did I use an old production photo from Heartland?

That's not just any old production photo. That's an image of director Dean Bennett (standing) discussing a scene about to be filmed with Chris Potter.
It's a great shot and with it comes yesterday's awesome news that Dean has been nominated for a 2011 Gemini Award for his work on "A Heartland Christmas," in the category of Best Direction in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series.
Dean's was one of 5 Gemini nominations Heartland received. The others were -
* Keith Power - Best Original Music Score for a Program or Series, for the episode "Homecoming,"
* Nicholas Campbell - Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series, for "A Heartland Christmas,"
* Alberta Watson - Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role, Dramatic Series, for the episode "Where the Truth Lies," and
* Kevin Banks, Richard Calistan, Steve Foster, Robert Hegedus, Kevin Howard, Sid Liberman, Ron Osiowy and Paul Shubat, for Best Sound in a Dramatic Series.
The Geminis are the Canadian Television industry's highest honour (next to being renewed for another season :D) and on behalf of everyone - the fans, the CBC and fellow cast and crew members - congratulations to Heartland's nominees!!!!
The Gemini Awards will be handed out on September 7 in Toronto. I may even go!

Today on set, a new block of two episodes started shooting with Grant Harvey. Grant is back directing Episode 509 - "Cover Me," by Leila Basen and David Preston, and Episode 510 - "Trust," written by Heather Conkie.
(Has anyone noticed how many Heartland episodes by Leila and David have titles that are also the names of songs by Bruce Springsteen? Just asking! See if you can identify them all...)
Anyway, production is indeed nearly at the halfway point of Season 5. How time flies, no?

Chloe asks, I love Heartland and have read all the books as well as watching it everyday,I was wondering when heartland season 5 would come to England as that is where I live and wanted to know how long I would have to wait. ? xo
Chloe, nobody in Canada has any control over when Heartland will air in the U.K. or anywhere else other than Canada. That is up to the broadcaster in each country that buys the right to show it. I can tell you that it can't air until the final episode of Season 5 has premiered in Canada, and that will not be until March 25, 2012.

Jenna asks, BW. Do you know when the site will change to the Season 5 site like it does every year? Like when the character descriptions change with new pictures, and the layout is different? Jenna, you're more than welcome! The update to the photos and the character's bios (and there will be some new ones added) will happen shortly before Season 5 premieres on September 18. And a few other things are going to change as well!

I was just wondering how this is determined. If I were to turn on the 3 TVs in my house and put on Heartland Sunday nights, would that help increase the viewers so there's a better chance of a Season 6? Would it count as 3 viewers? A lot of questions there, Rachel, and I will start with the last one - how desperate do you sound for more seasons of Heartland...? VERY! LOL
But to answer how the number of viewers is tabulated is for a television show in Canada is complicated, as only certain households are being monitored in the country, by a company called BBM (the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement) It's like the Neilson ratings in the U.S., which you may have heard of. These homes represent a fraction of the Canadian public, but it is a fair representation, and statistically accurate. If your household is being monitored you'd know about it - because you'd have to wear a little thing that pays attention to every TV show you watch! If not, don't worry about it and just enjoy your favourite series. The simple truth is, if Heartland continues to be a great show it will attract a great audience and you can look forward to more seasons.

Marilynn asks, BW, Sorry to post this here, but KTBU Channel 55 in Houston that has been airing Heartland, just turned Hispanic and will be Spanish speaking only. Is there a chance another station will pick it up? I have UVerse and they don't carry the GMC station. There's no current blog on The Heartland Ranch site, so I didn't know where to ask.
Marilynn - you get points for asking here, even though this is the site for Canada, where Heartland plays on the CBC. Normally theheartlandranch.com would give you this information, but this is an oddity, with the station turning Hispanic half way though its 2 year commitment to Heartland.
Don't worry, however. I contacted the American distributor of Heartland and there are other stations in the Houston area interested in picking up the series and broadcasting it. Heartland USA (The Heartland Ranch site) will have this info on the American 2nd season of Heartland (23 episodes) soon, but do expect Heartland on television in Houston in September!

I started watching Heartland in the daytime when I was laid up sick and got hooked. I think it is one of the most entertaining and well done programs on CBC that I have ever watched. I am now watching some episodes for the 2nd and maybe even 3rd time in the daytime as well as on Sunday evening. I can't wait for the new season to start. I just recently found this wonderful show. It makes me want to be there as a part of the family.....Jack especially reminds me of my brother-in-law who passed away a few years ago. My younger sister and he lived on a farm that his family owned for over 100 yrs....they farmed it, grazed cattle on it, raised many varieties of animals on it, converted it to a dairy farm for a while (which got to be way too much work)and was reverted back to a regular farm. I loved visiting it every summer, enjoyed the really fresh/clean air, the scent of the soybean fields located across from them and the freshly butchered beef/pork & chicken was unbelievably delish.....nothing like the meat we're used to buying from a grocery store.
So this show reminds me of that time with great joy:))))))

I resently found this show! I absolutely love it! I am a horse owner myself and have done some training and been around horses my whole life. I am so impressed with how well written this show is. Some horse shows you see the writers really didn't know what they were writing about but in this case they hit it right on the money! My husband and I love to sit down and watch this show and I hope that it keeps running for a long time!

Is Heartland going to air in the St. Louis, Missouri (USA) area? I watched the first season and half of the second season on Netflix, and loved it so much I ordered the DVDs for the second half of season two and season three. I can't wait until November 1 for season four dvd to be released. I'm hoping I can watch it in re-run on cable. Thanks!
